One of the main drawbacks that the Android operating system presents for many users is the delay in which manufacturers incorporate each version to their smartphones . With the introduction of Android 4.4 KitKat comes the eternal question: when will my computer be updated? This is a complex matter. On this occasion, the Google company has introduced in this version many improvements and new functions, but it has also optimized the platform so that it can work on the most basic devices: even those that only have a reduced RAM memory of 512 MB. It should not be forgotten that the vast majority of Androids are part of the so-called basic range section. It is true, despite all this, that the first to receive Android 4.4 KitKat will be the owners of high-end devices. At the moment, few manufacturers have given information about their update schedule, but we think it is convenient to share the information we have so far with our readers and update it as soon as we learn more about the intentions of each company.
You already know that the first to work through Android 4.4 KitKat will be the Nexus 5, a smartphone that was born to launch this new edition of the platform. On the other hand, Google has already reported that in just a few weeks it will release the update for the Nexus 10, the HTC One Google Edition and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition, devices that work through Android in its purest form, without the TouchWiz software layer that THE Korean firm Samsung usually incorporates to all its computers or HTC Sense, in the case of the Taiwanese HTC. This will happen in a very few days, but Google has not yet been able to specify an exact date.
Samsung
It is very likely that Samsung intends to update as soon as possible the most cutting-edge devices that it has released during this 2013. This includes the Samsung Galaxy S4 in the first instance and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 almost in tandem. It would be desirable that the update could arrive before the end of the year, but the truth is that there is still no data that can confirm it. The free editions would be the first to embrace the sweetness of KitKat.
Nexus
Nexus equipment, owned by Google, are privileged in this regard, since they will be the first to receive the update to Android 4.4 with full guarantee. For the next few weeks the data package for the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 is expected.
HTC
The Taiwanese company HTC has in its catalog a trio of smartphones that is crying out for this update. Called HTC One, HTC One mini and HTC One max (the last of this series One) will receive Android 4.4 within 90 days, what makes us think of a somersault until January 2014. It is possible that the first to receive it are the free terminals, so that the update for a large part of the HTC audience does not arrive until well into next year. The HTC One Google Play EditionIt will be the only one to advance in time, with a quick update within 15 days.
Sony
Like Samsung, Sony has not yet made public its plans to update its devices to Android 4.4. Despite that, the newly released Sony Xperia Z Ultra and Sony Xperia Z1 are likely to be the first to embrace this version of Google's operating system. Transparent as it is in its plans, it is very likely that Sony will announce its particular update schedule sooner rather than later.
We will follow the plans of this and all the companies that currently have smartphones that are candidates for the update in their catalog to inform you in a timely manner about their intentions.
