Today was an important day for Samsung. The Samsung Developers Conference (SDC 2018), which began in San Francisco today, November 7, has given a lot. One of the novelties with which the company has surprised us has been the launch of the famous folding screen, which has been talked about so much in recent weeks.
But it is also that Samsung has wanted to offer important information for the owners of the two current flagships of the company. We refer, logically, to the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Samsung Galaxy S9.
Something very important was announced at the event, which has to do with the expected arrival of the new version of Android. Thus, today we have learned that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Samsung Galaxy S9 will (finally) receive the update to Android 9 Pie from January 2019.
The information was provided as soon as the conference opened, within the opening speech itself. And although not many details were given, we have some information that as a user of either of these two devices you should know.
Android 9 Pie for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and S9
Android 9 Pie, the most recent version of Google's operating system, began landing on the first devices in mid-September. However, almost two months later, very few manufacturers have installed this edition on their most cutting-edge computers.
Samsung is a good example of this breakthrough at a snail's pace. Something that, if we look back to compare what happened with other versions, cannot surprise us at all. Be that as it may, what Samsung has announced today is a goal that should be met and that puts, at the very least, some pressure on the manufacturer's side.
The update to Android 9 Pie should be ready in January 2019. But beware, more things will happen first. As usual in the last two years, what Samsung will do first is open a trial period.
Yes, users who wish to will have the opportunity to participate in an open beta program, which will in all likelihood begin in December. We say that anyone who wants to can sign up, but in reality, this beta period will most likely only open in certain markets or countries.
In fact, we know that the program will open, to begin with, in the United States, South Korea and Germany. From there, it would not be surprising that other countries, both European and Asian, also have the opportunity to dive into the beta.
The program will be of great help to Samsung. Beta testers will send their feedback and feedback to the manufacturer, so many things can be improved along the way.
Android 9 Pie: a significant update
Upgrading to Android 9 is certainly important for these and all supported devices. One of the most relevant and notorious changes is the user interface, which is completely renewed. One UI arrives, which is something very different from what we have seen so far in any other Samsung device.
They improve other important aspects, such as autonomy, thanks to tools such as adaptive brightness, which will be adjusted automatically, without the user having to do anything. The system, in general, works more agilely through functions such as App Actions, which in this case is responsible for predicting what we want to do or need to provide it to us instantly.
Among other functions, we must also mention the modes designed for our digital rest, something that has become very fashionable in recent times, and that companies like Facebook are also developing. We are talking, in the case of Android 9 Pie, of the Do Not Disturb mode or the relaxation function, which gradually darkens the screen to go to a dim gray scale.
