- ZTE Axon Elite
The ZTE company has introduced the successor to its flagship, the ZTE Axon Elite. The Chinese company has thrown the house out of the window and has manufactured a high-end terminal with technical characteristics that have nothing to envy to the top of the market. The ZTE Axon 7 arrives with a new screen, a new camera, a new processor and a new design. We are going to review what differences exist between the new model and the company's current flagship. Today we compare the recently introduced ZTE Axon 7 with the terminal it replaces, the ZTE Axon Elite.
Design and display
The ZTE Axon 7 follows a design very similar to its predecessor. The company once again uses a design with a metal unibody body, but dispenses with the leather stripes that the ZTE Axon Elite incorporated. The fingerprint reader, as usual in the company's terminals, is located at the back, just below the camera. The terminal measures are 151.8 x 75 x 8.7 cm, weighing 185 grams. The terminal will be available in two finishes, gold and silver.
On the other hand we have the ZTE Axon Elite. The current top of the range of the company boasts a metallic design in gold. On the back we find two leather stripes, located at the bottom and top of the terminal. Also in the back we have located the fingerprint reader. At the front, the grilles for the speakers stand out. The complete measurements of this equipment are placed at 154 75 9.3 millimeters, along with a weight of 168 grams.
As for the screen, both terminals have the same size, 5.5 inches. However, the quality jump is considerable. The ZTE Axon 7 mounts a panel AMOLED with resolution QHD of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, with a density of 532 pixels per inch. The ZTE Axon Elite features a panel IPS LCD with a resolution Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Its density is 401 dots per inch. Although the resolution is not the most important, the move from the IPS panel to the AMOLED panelyes that supposes a very important change. The Chinese company thus begins to compete with the largest in the market.
Camera and multimedia
The new terminal of the company also improves in the photographic section. ZTE wants to offer a camera at the height of the higher-end terminals, so has incorporated a sensor of no less than 20 megapixels. The main camera incorporates an image stabilizer and an aperture f / 1.8. You cannot miss a Dual Tone flash to help us with the darkest scenes. The new camera of the ZTE Axon 7 even allows you to record video in 4K quality at 30 fps, we can even record videos in slow motion (240 frames per second) in HD quality.
In front we have a camera sensor 8 megapixels and an aperture of f / 2.2. The company has incorporated a new beauty software that will allow us to take perfect selfies .
The ZTE Axon Elite incorporates a dual lens rear camera signed by Sony. The main lens has a resolution of 13 megapixels and aperture of f / 1.8, while the secondary lens stays at 2 megapixels and serves to create depth effects in photos. The camera has a dual LED flash and also has the ability to record videos in ultra high resolution 4K UHD.
As for the front camera is a sensor with a resolution of 8 megapixels capable of recording video in high resolution 1,080p. As usual, we will have different options to improve our selfies, such as beauty mode.
It is not very common to talk about the sound section on a smartphone, but ZTE has been standing out in this section since its last flagship. The ZTE Axon Elite incorporates a set of two speakers, each with its own chip, for greater sound control and a Hi-Fi experience through headphones. In the ZTE Axon 7 the company maintains the two stereo speakers that work under the controls of two dedicated audio chips, the AK4961 and AK4490 with surround quality sound.
Processor, memory and operating system
Obviously, the processor is another of the points in which the company's new model improves. The ZTE Axon 7 incorporates a Snapdragon 820 processor from the company Qualcomm. It is an eight-core processor that operates at a speed of 2.2 GHz. The graphics is handled by an Adreno 530 GPU. This set is accompanied by 4 or 6 GB of RAM, it depends on the model we select. The internal storage also improves, with 64 GB of capacity in the version with 4 GB of RAM and with no less than 128 GB of capacity in the version with 6 GBRAM memory. Although these are high capacities, we still have the possibility to expand this capacity using a microSD card.
The ZTE Axon Elite mounts an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with a power of 2 GHz per core, along with a 3 GB RAM. The internal storage capacity is 32 GB. This capacity is easily expandable by using microSD cards up to 128 GB.
To move all this hardware, the ZTE Axon 7 will come standard with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, along with the latest version of the MiFavor customization layer. The ZTE Axon Elite, however, opts for Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, along with the MiFavor 3.2 customization layer. As always, the company incorporates its own applications to improve the operation of the terminal.
Autonomy and connectivity
The new terminal of the Chinese company also improves the battery. While the ZTE Axon Elite mounts a 3,000 milliamp battery, the ZTE Axon 7 goes up to 3,140 milliamps. It's not a big difference, but any increase in this section is welcome. The fast charging system is maintained in the new model, which allows to achieve up to 50% autonomy with only 30 minutes of charging.
The connectivity is the usual in a high-end equipment. Compatibility with 4G LTE networks, WiFi AC and NFC chip.
Conclusions
The ZTE Axon 7 is a great successor to the ZTE Axon Elite. Practically everything improves in the new terminal. The same 5.5-inch diagonal is maintained, but it has been decided to switch to AMOLED technology and abandon the IPS panel. A decision that seems quite successful, considering the quality of the AMOLED panels and the lower battery consumption. And if the technology change is good, the resolution also changes, becoming a 2K screen of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. This change to a higher resolution increases the density of the screen, making everything look sharper and more realistic.
Improved camera going from 13 to 20 megapixels. We are not sure if the sensor in the new camera will also be manufactured by Sony. Which it seems that stays the same is the front camera, with those 8 megapixels, which will be enough to get our best selfies . In terms of brute force, the new ZTE Axon 7 mounts a more advanced processor. The Snapdragon 820 keeps all eight cores but increases operating speed. RAM and internal storage memory also increase.
Finally, the battery also suffers an increase in performance, going from 3,000 milliamps to 3,140 milliamps. And now comes the big question, does the price of the new terminal also suffer an increase or does it maintain the price of the ZTE Axon Elite ? Well, the ZTE Axon Elite has been on sale for a while with a price of 420 euros. The ZTE Axon 7 will be released in the US market starting at a price of $ 450 for the 4GB model. As unfortunately the conversion made by the manufacturers is somewhat strange, it is likely that the ZTE Axon 7 will reach the European market with a price that would be around 550 euros.
