Data sheet Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro
Design
Few are the design improvements that the Redmi Note 8 represents compared to the Redmi Note 7. Both have a body made of glass and aluminum, and both base their main appearance on the traditional drop-shaped notch, a notch that accompanies a 6.3-inch screen in both cases.
Design Xiaomi Redmi Note 8
If we move to the rear, this is accompanied by a fingerprint sensor located in the middle of the set and a camera module that is positioned on the left side, as is customary for the brand. The main difference between the two modules stems from the number of cameras: four in the Note 8 and two in the Note 7.
Design Xiaomi Redmi Note 7
In terms of dimensions, the Redmi Note 8 has a more contained size despite having the same 6.3-inch screen as the Redmi Note 7. This is due, in part, to the reduction of its side frames, top and bottom. Its weight, yes, is 5 grams higher than the last iteration, as well as its thickness, which exceeds that of the Note 7 by 0.7 millimeters.
screen
As with the design, the screen is one of the aspects that represents the least evolution compared to the previous generation.
In the absence of data such as the level of brightness or the percentage of representation in the NTSC spectrum, everything indicates that it is the same panel: 6.3 inches with Full HD + resolution, IPS technology and 409 dpi. Nothing to object about the screen, beyond showing narrower frames. You will have to test the terminal in hand to see if aspects such as colors or viewing angles evolve compared to its predecessor.
Photographic set
The reason for the Redmi Note 8 has to do with the photographic section, a photographic section composed of no less than four independent sensors that come to complete the usual camera configuration composed of two sensors.
Specifically, the terminal has four cameras of 48, 8, 2 and 2 megapixels with wide angle and macro lenses and focal aperture f / 1.7, f / 2.2, f / 2.4 and f / 2.4. The fourth sensor, for its part, uses its functions to improve the depth of the photographs when using portrait mode. As for the main sensor, everything indicates that it is the same 48-megapixel Samsung S5KGM1 sensor as that of the Redmi Note 7, despite the fact that the company has not confirmed the specific model.
In the case of the latter, the terminal is accompanied by a secondary sensor with a 5 megapixel telephoto lens and f / 2.4 focal aperture. The results, beyond the number of lenses of each phone, should be similar in both cases, having a main sensor. It is in the rest of the cameras where we would find the greatest difference, differences that would leave us with greater definition in images of nearby objects, greater field width in landscape photography and a more successful portrait mode if we talk about shapes and blur.
And what about the front camera? Since the main sensor drinks from the same 13 megapixel camera, the results should be similar. However, an improvement in the processing of the images in portrait mode is expected that should be applied to the rest of the images due to the improvement of the processing of the Snapdragon 665.
Processor and memory
With the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, the company has made the same leap in performance that the Xiaomi Mi A3 supposed compared to the Note 7. In fact, the two terminals have the same hardware: Snapdragon 665 processor along with 4 and 6 GB of RAM. and 64 and 128 GB of internal storage expandable through micro SD cards up to 256 GB.
As for the Redmi Note 7, it has a Snapdragon 660 processor, 3 and 4 GB of RAM and 32, 64 and 128 GB of internal storage. Beyond technical specifications, the differences between the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 are summarized in greater energy efficiency if we talk about the processor and a graphics with greater muscle, which should have an impact on the performance of games and autonomy. end in relatively heavy use.
The increase in RAM memory is also a substantial improvement when it comes to handling between different applications. It remains to be seen if the storage raises the bet to the UFS 2.1 standard integrated in the Mi A3, although everything points to not, in the absence of official confirmation. If so, the Redmi Note 8 should give us a better experience when it comes to moving files in memory and managing between applications that require access to storage (Photoshop, Gallery, Recorder, etc.).
Autonomy and connectivity
By having a similar processor, the differences in connectivity are practically nil. So much so that the two devices have the same wireless connections: Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi compatible with all bands, FM radio and infrared sensor for remote control functions. The Redmi Note 8 also adds NFC for mobile payments, although it remains to be seen if the international version integrates this technology after its arrival in Europe and the rest of the countries.
If we talk about autonomy, again we find a similar component: 4,000 mAh battery in both cases. Recall that the manufacturing process of the Redmi Note 8 CPU is more optimized than that of the Note 7, which should give us a slightly higher autonomy when watching videos and keeping the device at rest.
As for fast charging technology, returns again to rely on Quick Charge 3.0 with up to 18 W. Unfortunately, the charger with a USB type C connection that both devices integrate is not compatible with this type of charging, so it will be necessary to use a third-party charger to take advantage of the technology.
Conclusions
After seeing the main differences between the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, it is time to draw conclusions, which are largely determined by the price.
Although the new iteration has not yet reached Europe, much less Spain, it is known that its official sale price will be 125 euros at the exchange rate. Upon arrival in Spain, this value could increase to 149 euros or even 159 euros. Is it worth it compared to the Redmi Note 7? Without a doubt, yes.
In addition to having a more compact terminal on a screen of similar dimensions to the Note 7, the Redmi Note 8 represents a clear evolution in camera, and ultimately, performance. Another of the improvements to be highlighted has to do with the implementation of NFC for mobile payments, making Xiaomi's proposal one of the few that integrate such connectivity within the price range in which it is found. To this is added the improvement in autonomy thanks to the optimization of the processor, which will have to be assessed when we have the terminal in hand.
We conclude, therefore, that the Redmi Note 8 represents a much more complete terminal if we compare it with the Redmi Note 7 if it finally ends up reaching the estimated price. In the event that the value increases to 200 euros, opting for the most basic version of the Note 7 is the smartest option, since today it can be found for about 140 euros in stores such as Amazon or Aliexpress.
