The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 is already official, and together with its predecessor, the Redmi Note 7, it makes up what is possibly the best duo in the mid-range. Although at the moment the terminal has not officially arrived in Spain, today it is possible to buy it in some Aliexpress stores for a price around 170 euros. In front, we find mobiles like the Xiaomi Mi 9T, a terminal that starts at 230 euros in some Spanish stores. Is the latter worth it compared to the Mi 9T? What differences are there between the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 vs Xiaomi Mi 9T really? We see it below.

Design
One of the differential aspects of the Xiaomi Mi 9T with respect to the rest of Xiaomi phones is probably its design, a design that opts for a retractable mechanism to operate the front camera instead of the usual notch in the shape of a drop of water from which it is worth the Note 8.
The result is a larger size that traces the dimensions of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, since both terminals have the same weight, the same width and the same height. If we move to the rear, both have a case made of glass where the only difference is found in the presence of a physical fingerprint reader if we talk about the Redmi Note 8. Remember that the Mi 9T opts for an on-screen integration of the fingerprint sensor, by having a panel with OLED technology.
Finally, it should be noted the presence of a headphone jack input and Corning Gorilla Glass protection on both terminals. The Note 8 also has IP52 protection against dust and splashes.
screen
The biggest criticism of Xiaomi after the launch of the Xiaomi Mi A3 has come from the hand of the screen, which is inherited from the technology used in the panel: AMOLED under a Pentile matrix. The manufacturer seems to have taken action on the matter by integrating an IPS panel in the Redmi Note 8, a panel that has 6.3 inches diagonal, Full HD + resolution and 409 dpi.
If we talk about the Mi 9T, the terminal has a 6.39-inch AMOLED panel with Full HD + resolution and an integrated fingerprint sensor. In the absence of data such as the level of brightness or the percentage of representation of colors in the NTSC or sRGB spectrum, everything indicates that the panel of the Xiaomi Mi 9T is superior. On the contrary, the fingerprint sensor is more erratic, being located under the screen.
Processor and memory
Far from being an evolution of the Redmi Note 7, the eighth iteration of the Note series comes with hardware very similar to that of its predecessor: Snapdragon 665 processor, 4 and 6 GB of RAM and 64 and 128 GB of internal storage.
For its part, the Mi 9T opts for a Snapdragon 730 processor, 6 GB of RAM and 64 and 128 GB of internal storage not expandable via micro SD cards. Both have MIUI 10 under Android 9 Pie, and the Mi 9T opts for a UFS 2.1 storage type, which in numbers gives better results than the Redmi Note 8's eMMC storage when handling files between applications.
For this and for aspects such as the processor, graphics and RAM, the Mi 9T is expected to obtain a more solvent performance in tasks that demand a high demand for processing and graphics processing. It is hoped that this performance will carry over when it comes to processing high resolution photos, by having a more advanced module. Also in the coverage and the signal level in the different antennas.
Photographic set
We come to what is possibly the most interesting section: the cameras. Despite the differences, the two phones drink from very similar concepts.
Both have a main camera of 48 megapixels of resolution and focal aperture f / 1.7. The difference between one and the other part of the sensor type: while the Mi 9T opts for a Sony sensor, the Redmi Note 8 has a sensor signed by Samsung, whose results are significantly lower than the Sony sensor when it comes to obtaining images at night.
If we move to the rest of the sensors, both have cameras with wide-angle lenses of 8 and 13 megapixels of resolution and a focal aperture f / 2.2 in the case of the Redmi Note 8 and f / 2.4 in the case of the Mi 9T. The technical difference, in the absence of testing the Redmi Note 8 in hand, tells us that we will obtain higher quality photographs in the Mi 9T. In contrast, the Note 8 takes photos brighter at night.
As for the third and fourth sensor, the differences this time are based on the type of lens. And is that while the Redmi Note 8 opts for a 2 megapixel depth lens to improve photographs in portrait mode, the Mi 9T has an 8 megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens to obtain a lossless two-magnification optical zoom.
The fourth sensor of the Redmi Note 8, meanwhile, has a macro lens to obtain photographs of small objects without loss of focus. By way of conclusion we can say that the Redmi Note 8 obtains better photographs in portrait mode and macro mode. On the other side we find the Mi 9T, capable of obtaining higher quality zoom photos.
And what about the front camera? Again we find a more capable sensor in the Mi 9T, as it has a 20 megapixel sensor compared to 13 in the Redmi Note 8. The focal aperture in both cases is f / 2.0.
Autonomy and connectivity
The differences in terms of autonomy and connectivity are practically negligible due to the null differentiation between specifications.
They are due to the similarity of their characteristics: both have a 4,000 mAh battery, with 18 W fast charging systems and similar connections. The AMOLED screen of the Mi 9T should give us, yes, better numbers in total screen hours, although nothing crazy, because after all the panel is larger than that of the Note 8 as a whole.
In the connectivity section, both have the same connections: Bluetooth 5.0, dual-band WiFi, GPS compatible with all satellites, UBS type C port. The differences are found in the infrared sensor, of which the Mi 9T it lacks, as well as the absence of the NFC in the case of the Redmi Note 8.
Conclusions
After seeing the main differences between the Xiaomi Mi 9T vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, it is time to draw conclusions, which, as we usually warn in these cases, depend largely on the price.
Currently we can find both models at their lowest price on Aliexpress for a price that is around 230 euros in the case of the Mi 9T and 170 euros in the case of the Redmi Note 8. Is it worth paying the difference of 50 euros that the upper mid-range model supposes? From our point of view, yes.
At the end of the day we find a higher quality mobile as a whole. Better screen, a more used design, a higher quality main camera, better performance in games and heavy tasks and the presence of NFC for making mobile payments.
Another aspect to take into account is based on the absence of the 800 band in the case of the Redmi Note 8 if we opt for the Chinese version, since the Mi 9T has a single global version. If we choose to wait for the release of the Note 8 in Spain and the rest of European countries, it is most likely that the price difference will be even less pronounced, which definitely sets the balance for the Xiaomi Mi 9T side.
