After several weeks of intense rumors and leaks, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro has been presented in China. While it is true that the terminal is not yet available to buy in Spain, its younger brother, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, will do so from tomorrow. As is usual in the company's mid-range, Xiaomi opts to integrate a series of exclusive features in the Pro models. Is the Redmi Note 7 Pro worth buying compared to the normal Redmi Note 7? And the most interesting, what are their differences? We see it in our comparison between the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro.
Comparative sheet
Design
The design is one of the aspects where the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro evolves less than the normal Redmi Note 7. In fact, the body used in both versions is exactly the same.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 design
Same height and width dimensions, same weight and same design. Even the three colors used are exactly the same, as well as the construction materials, which are based on aluminum and glass. The latter is worth noting given the price of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, which does not exceed 130 euros in China.
Design of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro
For the rest, Xiaomi repeats the same design lines both on the back and on the front. Drop-type notch, reduced lower frame and a back that reminds us of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite that we recently analyzed in One Expert.
screen
As with the design, Xiaomi has decided to implement the same panel in both models, or at least that is what the theory tells us.
A 6.3-inch IPS panel with Full HD + resolution whose ratio starts from 19.5: 9 proportions is what we find in the Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro. We also find Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection in both screens and a pixel density of around 409 dpi.
As for the rest of the characteristics such as the brightness or the color reproduction in the NTSC spectrum, Xiaomi has not given many details. It will be necessary to test both terminals in hand to see if it really is the same panel, although everything indicates that it is the same panel to save production costs, as is usual in Xiaomi.
Photographic set
In the photographic section, Xiaomi has decided to implement two sensors of similar aperture and resolution, although different as a whole.
The main sensor of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is the Samsung S5KGM1, which has 48 megapixels, focal aperture f / 1.8 and pixels of 0.8 um in size. As for the sensor of the Redmi Note 7 Pro, it integrates the well-known 48-megapixel Sony IMX 586 with a focal aperture f / 1.79 and pixels of 0.8 um in size. Similar results are expected in both models, although experience tells us that the Sony sensor performs better than Samsung's.
Regarding the second sensor, both are accompanied by a telephoto sensor for photographs in portrait mode of 5 megapixels and focal aperture f / 2.4. The one of the Redmi Note 7 is about the Samsung S5K5E8. As for the Pro model, Xiaomi has not detailed the specific model, but it is expected that it will be the same in both cases.
And what about the front camera? As expected, the two terminals have the same front camera. Specifically, a single sensor of 13 megapixels and focal aperture f / 2.2. We do not expect great results from the latter at night or in low light conditions. It will be necessary to see its solvency when it comes to doing the facial unlocking functions.
Processor and memory
The differences between the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro are mainly in the processor and memory section.
In the base model, for example, we find a Snapdragon 660 processor accompanied by an Adreno 512 GPU, 3, 4 and 6 GB of RAM and 32 and 64 GB of internal storage. The Pro variant, on the other hand, consists of a Snapdragon 675 processor, an Adreno 612 GPU, 4 and 6 GB of RAM and 64 and 128 GB of storage. Both have expandability through micro SD cards up to 256 GB.
Are there performance differences between one and the other? The theory tells us no, beyond the ability to keep multiple applications in memory. The only differential point of both processors comes from the hand of the GPU when it comes to processing 3D games. Also photographic processing will be limited in the case of the Redmi Note 7, as the Snapdragon 660 is only capable of processing images up to 25 megapixels. In the rest of the aspects we should not notice big differences, since both have the latest version of MIUI 10 under Android 9 Pie.
Autonomy and connectivity
In the section on autonomy and connectivity, the differences are hardly noticeable. This is because both Xiaomi mid-range phones have the same 4,000 mAh battery and the same mobile connectivity (4G LTE, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0).
Where we do find differences is in the manufacturing process of the two processors of the Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro. And it is that while the Snapdragon 675 is based on 11 nanometers, the Snapdragon 660 is based on 14 nanometers. Translated into real use, the Redmi Note 7 Pro should give us better results in terms of autonomy, although not far from the Redmi Note 7.
Finally, it should be noted that both terminals have the same fast charging technology; specifically Quick Charge 4.0. The latter is capable of supporting up to 18 W. We must bear in mind that generally Xiaomi does not usually include chargers compatible with fast charging, which is why we must buy an external charger.
Conclusions and price
We finally come to the section on the conclusions and the price. As we have seen throughout the comparison of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro, the two terminals of the Chinese company have practically the same specifications. Same design, same screen, same cameras and even the same battery. The only differences that we find between one and the other are based on the integration of a more powerful processor in the case of the Pro model and a greater capacity in terms of RAM and ROM memory.
As for the price of the two terminals, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 has been the only one that has been officially presented in Spain. His portfolio is as follows:
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 of 3 and 32 GB: 149 euros to change
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 4 and 64 GB: 199 euros to change
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 of 6 and 64 GB: 249 euros to change
Regarding the price of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro, the direct conversion of yuan to euros plus the application of VAT in Spain leaves us a roadmap similar to the one we can see below:
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro 4 and 64 GB: 170 euros to change + VAT = 209 euros
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro 6 and 128 GB: 210 euros to change + VAT = 259 euros
Does the price difference justify the purchase of the Pro model? It depends. Although it is true that the theoretical difference of the two phones is only 60 euros, the price of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro after its presentation in Europe could vary. Only in the event that this same price difference is maintained on the arrival of the aforementioned terminal in Europe, the Redmi Note 7 Pro will be the most recommended terminal of the two. If the margin stretches to 70 or 80 euros of difference, then it is best to opt for the base model if we do not prioritize aspects such as performance in games or storage capacity. Be that as it may, we will update the article as soon as the company officializes the price and availability of the Pro model.
