It was only a few minutes ago when the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 was presented to the market. The terminal is proclaimed as the logical evolution of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro presented a few months ago. The new proposal from the Chinese company not only brings novelties in design, but also in the photographic section and in the technical specifications. The price is another factor that varies compared to the last generation, but is it really worth it to change one mobile for another? Is it a big change compared to the Redmi Note 6 Pro? We see it below in our comparison between the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro.
Data sheet
Design
If between the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and the Redmi Note 5 the differences in design were minimal, with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 things change. Although we do not know its dimensions, it is known that it has practically the same size as its predecessor by having a similar screen size (somewhat larger in the Redmi Note 7) and better used margins.

But beyond the size of the devices, where we find the main differences is in the construction materials. On this occasion, the new Xiaomi mid-range has glass-based materials throughout its body and aluminum on the edges. The Redmi Note 6 Pro, on the other hand, opts for materials based on aluminum and plastic on the sides of the device.

As for the lines of the two terminals, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 boasts of having smaller upper and lower margins thanks, mainly, to the implementation of a smaller notch than in the case of the Redmi Note 6 Pro. of both teams, although quite different in colors and materials, it has a similar distribution of components (camera and fingerprint sensor). The Redmi Note 7 highlights the variety in terms of "gradient" colors available for its back (blue, pink, glossy black…).
screen
Surely the screen is one of the components of Xiaomi mobile phones that varies the least between models of different ranges, and the Redmi Note 7 was not going to be an exception, since both panels have similar technical characteristics.
In summary, we find two panels with IPS technology of 6.3 and 6.26 inches in size with the same Full HD + resolution and a ratio of 19.5: 9 and 18: 9. In this regard, the panel of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is somewhat longer due to its higher screen ratio.
Regarding the rest of the characteristics, the two screens have 84% of the NTSC color spectrum and 450 and 480 nits of brightness respectively. Translated into Spanish, it means that the two panels have a similar color calibration and a practically identical brightness, although lower in the case of the Redmi Note 7.
Photographic set
We come to one of the most interesting sections of the photographic section. Although the technical specifications (in the absence of data on the focal aperture) tell us that we find a superior camera in the case of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, the truth is that the two sensors that make up the main camera of the two terminals are very similar.
In technical specifications we find a camera based on two 48 and 5 megapixel sensors with focal aperture f / 1.8 in the Redmi Note 7. These 48 megapixels, according to different specialized media, are achieved thanks to the interpolation of 12 real megapixels with pixels of 0.8 picometers (12 x 0.8 / 2 = 48 megapixels), which in practice results in more defined photographs and in greater detail, although nothing comparable to that of a real 48 megapixel sensor.
As for its predecessor, we find the same camera layout although with different characteristics (12 and 5 megapixels and focal aperture f / 1.9 and f / 2.0). Compared to the Note 7, the Note 6 Pro's camera has less detail and slightly less brightness due to its aperture. The result in the rest of the photography modes (portrait mode, Artificial Intelligence mode…) is expected to be similar due to the characteristics of its secondary camera and the MIUI software treatment.
And what about the front camera? In this regard, the Redmi Note 6 Pro is far superior, as it integrates two 20 and 2 megapixel cameras with an f / 2.0 focal aperture. That of the Note 7 is based on a single 13 megapixel sensor with unknown aperture (f / 2.0 according to our predictions). Photographs with greater detail and better results in portrait mode are expected from the Redmi Note 6 Pro.
Autonomy and connectivity
If Xiaomi mid-range mobiles boast of something, it is autonomy, and no wonder, because in both devices the battery capacity far exceeds that of the rest of the proposals of other brands.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro.
Specifically, the two terminals have a 4,000 mAh module with fast charge. The only difference between the Note 7 and the Note 6 Pro is that the former has a USB Type-C connection, while the latter has only a micro USB connection. Due to the latter, it is to be expected that the charging speed in the Note 7 is higher than that of its predecessor, although we must remember that Xiaomi does not usually include a compatible charger in the box.
When it comes to connectivity, here the differences are minimal. Bluetooth 5.0, dual band WiFi and GLONASS GPS. Of course, the Redmi Note 6 has FM Radio, a feature that has not yet been confirmed in the Note 7. Unfortunately, neither of them includes NFC.
Processor and memory
The main change between the two mid-range Xiaomi phones comes from the processor and memory. The characteristics of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 consist of a Snapdragon 660 processor, 3, 4 and 6 GB of RAM and 32 and 64 GB of internal storage (it is unknown if it can be expanded). In essence, the same features as the Xiaomi Mi A2.
Regarding the characteristics of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, the terminal has a Snapdragon 636 processor, 3 and 4 GB of RAM and 32 and 64 GB of expandable storage through microSD cards up to 256 GB. Roughly speaking, the Redmi Note 7 has slightly superior hardware than the Redmi Note 6, not only for processor, but also for RAM. Also the graphics module (Andreno 512 vs Adreno 509) is quite superior, making the Note 7 a gaming-oriented mobile.
Last but not least, it is worth noting the greater energy efficiency of the Snapdragon 660 compared to the 636, which will lead to somewhat more favorable consumption for the Redmi Note 7, although this always depends on how we use the device.
Conclusions
Having seen all the important points of the two Xiaomi phones, it is time to draw conclusions. In practically all aspects, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is superior to its predecessor, with the exception of the cameras, which we will have to test to assess their real differences. In the rest of the points, the Note 7 undoubtedly surpasses its counterpart model since, in essence, it is a Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite (or Xiaomi Mi A2) with a different design and construction. Precisely the latter makes it surely the most interesting mobile in the Xiaomi catalog, and this is largely due to the price.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro starts from a price that ranges from 199 euros to 249 in Spain (it can be found cheaper in some import stores). The price of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, although it has not yet been confirmed in Spain, can be found in China at a value that starts at 128 euros, going through 153 euros for its intermediate version and 178 euros for the most powerful version. Upon arrival in Spain, it is expected that all these values will increase to 169, 199 and 259 euros respectively, however, in our humble opinion, it still seems to us a much more attractive terminal than its similarity even in equal prices.
Is it worth the change if you have a Remdi Note 5 or a Redmi Note 6? Not at all. Although it has superior features, the differences in aspects such as the camera, performance, and autonomy are hardly noticeable.
