Xiaomi has such a wide catalog of mobiles that it covers practically any range on the market. Both those looking for a cheap mobile and those looking for a top of the range will find their ideal mobile in the catalog of the Chinese manufacturer. However, this diversity makes it often difficult to differentiate between their own models. So this type of comparison between terminals of the brand is very useful. Today we are going to compare two models whose price is very different. However, its technical specifications can be misleading. Today we put the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE face to face.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is one of the most recommended mobiles in recent months. And it is that its price-performance ratio is almost unbeatable. It has a 6.3-inch screen, up to 4 GB of RAM, up to 64 GB of storage and a double rear camera with a 48-megapixel main sensor. Its rival in this comparison is the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, with a much smaller screen but with a triple rear camera system. Why does the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE cost 200 euros more than the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7? Let's try to find out.

DESIGN AND DISPLAY
Redmi Note 7
The truth is that in the design section the two terminals are very similar. Both have glass on the back and both use the teardrop notch for the front camera. However, the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE sports a somewhat more refined design. For example, the frame at the bottom of the screen is narrower. Also the sides, which are tighter. Even the frame around the notch, much thinner.
As for the rear, we also have a very similar design. They both sport nice gradient colors on a glass back. The main camera is positioned at the top left and vertically. Of course, the Redmi Note 7 has the fingerprint reader on the back, while the Mi 9 SE has it under the screen.
On the other hand, the Xioami Redmi Note 7 is a bigger and heavier mobile. This is due, in part, to the larger screen. Specifically, it equips a 6.3-inch panel with a FHD + resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels. Thus, the full dimensions of the device are 159.2 x 75.2 x 8.1 millimeters. Its weight is 186 grams, a fairly high figure for a mid-range mobile.
We 9 SE
The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE is the "compact" version of the Mi 9, so it had to include a smaller screen. But the truth is that it is very curious how we now consider a mobile with an almost 6-inch screen a compact mobile. Returning to the screen, the Mi 9 SE features a 5.93-inch AMOLED panel. The resolution of the screen is the same as that of its rival, FHD + of 2,340 × 1,080 pixels.
Thus, the dimensions of the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE remain at 147.5 x 70.5 x 7.45 millimeters. Its weight is 155 grams, much less than that of its rival. Does the battery have something to do with it? We will see later.
Photographic set
With a similar design, although not identical, the 200 euros difference between one mobile and another must be noted in another section. And the logical thing is to think that the photographic will be one of the most affected.
Redmi Note 7
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 has a double rear camera. The most spectacular thing about this set is that the main sensor offers a resolution of 48 megapixels with aperture f / 1.8. It is accompanied by a second sensor with 5 megapixels of resolution. In addition, it uses the 4-in-1 Super Pixel technique to achieve 1.6 μm pixels.
In addition to the technical section, Xiaomi has incorporated some improvements at the software level for certain types of photographs. For example, it includes a special algorithm for night photography. When the shutter button is pressed, it automatically captures multiple images and combines them into a single, higher quality photo. It also has the usual Artificial Intelligence system.
As for the video, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 allows us to record with FHD resolution up to 60fps with electronic stabilization (EIS). And as for the front camera, we have a 13 megapixel sensor that also uses AI for Portrait and Beauty modes.
We 9 SE
Of course, the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE has a superior photographic section. Although perhaps less than you might think. First of all, we have a third sensor at the rear. Thus, the main sensor is from the Sony brand and offers us 48 megapixels and aperture f / 1.75. This is accompanied by a telephoto lens of 8 megapixels and f / 2.4, in addition to an ultra wide angle of 13 megapixels and f / 2.4.
The main sensor of the Mi 9 SE is the same size as that of the Redmi Note 7, 1/2 ″. In addition, the 4-in-1 technique has also been used to achieve 1.6 μm pixels. However, having a telephoto lens and an ultra-wide angle increases the shooting possibilities.
For the rest, we have an AI system, 4K video recording at 30fps and also at 960 fps slow motion. As for the front camera, it equips a 20 megapixel sensor with an AI system for various functions.
Processor and memory
Redmi Note 7
Also on a technical level we are going to find differences between the two terminals that we are comparing. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 hides inside a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor. It is a chip with eight cores that works at a speed of up to 2.2 GHz and an Adreno 512 GPU up to 650 MHz.
This SoC is accompanied by 3 or 4 GB of RAM, depending on the version we choose. The amount of internal storage also varies, with 32, 64 or 128 GB available. Of course, it allows you to increase this capacity also through a Micro SD of up to 256 GB.
We 9 SE
The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 processor. It is a more powerful chip than its rival, manufactured in a 10 nm process, with eight cores running up to 2.3 GHz and with a Qualcomm Adreno 616 GPU up to 610 MHz.
The processor is accompanied by 6 GB of dual-channel LPDDR4x (1866 MHz) RAM and a UFS 2.1 storage memory that can be 64 or 128 GB. Of course, we must choose well from the beginning, since the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE does not have a Micro SD card slot.
Autonomy and connectivity
In the design section we have commented that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is much heavier than the Mi 9 SE. This is due, in part, to the larger battery. Specifically, we have a 4,000 milliamp battery, which is also compatible with fast charging.
Redmi Note 7
The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, however, has a 3,070 milliamp battery. It is a figure much lower than that of the Redmi Note 7 which, together with the more powerful hardware it includes, makes us think that it will have a worse autonomy. Of course, it also includes a fast charging system.
And in terms of connectivity, Xiaomi has not skimped on either of the two models. Both have dual Nano SIM, Bluetooth 5.0, 802.11ac WiFi and USB Type-C connection. The only important differences that we have found in this section is that the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE has MU-MIMO and is compatible with HD audio.
Conclusions and price
We reached the end of the comparison and we must draw conclusions. At first we asked ourselves the following question: Why does the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE cost 200 euros more than the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7? The answer is quite simple: because it is a better mobile in all sections.
It has a more refined design, with narrower edges and a more premium finish. It has a better screen since, although it has the same resolution, it uses an AMOLED panel manufactured by Samsung.
In addition, the Xiaomi Mi 9 has a more powerful processor, more RAM and even more internal storage. Of course, it does not have the possibility of expanding it as it does in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7.
Also in the photographic section we have a clear winner, since the Mi 9 offers three cameras that allow us greater versatility. Even the front camera has a higher resolution.
So, is there a section in which the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 wins? Yes, specifically two. The first is autonomy, with a battery almost 1,000 milliamps higher than that of its rival.
The second, as you can imagine, is the price. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 can be found in three versions: 3 GB of RAM + 32 GB of internal storage, 4 GB of RAM + 64 GB of internal storage and 4 GB of RAM + 128 GB of storage. The first has an official price of 180 euros, the second of 200 euros and the most powerful of 250 euros.
On the other hand, we have the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE available in two versions: 6 GB of RAM + 64 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM + 128 GB of storage. The first has an official price of 350 euros and the second of 400 euros. Whether it is worth investing a lot more in the Mi 9 SE will have to be decided by each user according to their needs.
