Comparative sheet
Design
The main difference between the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is found precisely in the aesthetic aspect. And it is that despite the fact that both have a body made of glass and metal, the differences between one and the other are based precisely on the design lines.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 design
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, for example, consists of a front based on a teardrop-shaped notch with significantly smaller margins than those of the Mi 8 Lite, except for the lower frame. The latter, on the other hand, has a more prominent island-shaped notch than that of the Redmi Note 7 and a significantly smaller lower frame. Despite this, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite has a more contained size in both height and thickness. We are talking about a difference of 3 millimeters in length, 0.6 in thickness and 17 grams in weight.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite design
When it comes to the rear, here the differences are less tangible. A fingerprint sensor that occupies the central part of the surface and a camera whose only difference is in the arrangement, vertical in the case of the Redmi Note 7 and horizontal in the case of the Mi 8 Lite.
Where we do find differences is in the edges of both terminals. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, meanwhile, has an audio jack for the headphones and an infrared port for remote control functions. Both have USB Type C 2.0.
screen
As is common in the Chinese firm, Xiaomi opts to integrate the same type of panel in most mid-range models, and in the case of the Mi 8 Lite vs Redmi Note 7 it was not going to be less.
In both cases we find a panel with IPS LCD technology and Full HD + resolution. In the case of the Redmi Note 7, the size is based on a 6.3-inch panel with a 19.5: 9 ratio. Regarding the screen of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, it consists of 6.26 inches and a 19: 9 ratio somewhat less elongated than the previous one. In both cases we find a type of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
Which screen is better and which one offers us higher quality? The truth is that in the absence of data such as viewing angles, the percentage of representativeness in the NTSC spectrum and the brightness nits, the two screens have similar characteristics. It is expected, therefore, that both have the same quality, as they are the same type of panel.
Photographic section
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is, along with the Mi Lite, one of the best photography exponents in the mid-range.
If we pull data, the Redmi Note 7 consists of two sensors signed by Samsung (the S5KGM1 and the S5K5E8) of 48 and 5 megapixels with telephoto lens and focal aperture f / 1.8 and f / 2.2. As for the cameras of the Mi 8 Lite, the Chinese mid-range consists of a Sony IMX363 sensor with 12 megapixels and focus aperture f / 1.9 and the same Samsung S5K5E8 sensor from the Redmi Note 7.
The differences between one and the other based on the theory tell us that we will obtain photographs with greater definition in the case of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, although these are interpolated at 12 megapixels. We will also obtain a higher level of luminosity in low light conditions precisely due to its higher level of focal aperture. In photography modes such as the famous Portrait Mode or other modes such as HDR or Artificial Intelligence, similar results are expected in both cases by integrating the same telephoto sensor and the same Qualcomm processor.
And what about the front camera? The undisputed winner in this case is the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. A Sony IMX576 sensor with 24 megapixels and focal aperture f / 2.0 is what makes up the photographic section of the latter. The Redmi Note 7, for its part, incorporates a 13 megapixel sensor and f / 2.2 focal aperture. Greater level of detail and illumination in the case of the Mi 8 Lite thanks to the resolution and the aperture of the lens.
Processor and memory
Perhaps the section where we find the least differences between the Xiaomi Redmi Note vs Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. And it is that roughly, both terminals have exactly the same specification sheet.
Snapdragon 660 processor, Adreno 512 GPU and a memory configuration ranging from 64 GB to 128 and from 4 to 6 GB is what we find in both terminals. As a highlight of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, the base model of the homonymous version starts from 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage.
In all other respects the two terminals are practically identical. Both support expansion through micro SD cards up to 256 GB and both have Dual nano SIM technology and Android 9 Pie under MIUI 10 as the base system. It is expected, therefore, that the performance will be exactly the same in both the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7.
Autonomy and connectivity
We finally reach two of the sections where we find the most differences between one model and another.
Starting with the connectivity section, here the differences are rather scarce. Dual-band 802.11 ac WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, FM radio and USB type C 2.0 are some of the components that the two Xiaomi phones share. The main difference between the Mi 8 Lite vs Redmi Note 7 is found in the latter's infrared port and the headphone jack input, which the Mi 8 Lite lacks.
As for the autonomy of the two devices, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is based on a 4,000 mAh battery with 18 W fast charging through the well-known Quick Charge 4.0 system. On the part of the Mi 8 Lite we find a 3,350 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charge. The result of these data leads to greater autonomy in the case of the Redmi Note 7.
In terms of charging speed, the two have very even times due precisely to the difference between battery capacities. As a highlight, it should be noted that in none of the terminals of the Chinese firm we find a charger compatible with the fast charge of each of the Xiaomi models.
Conclusions
After seeing the main differences between the Mi 8 Lite vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, it's time to draw conclusions. Currently we can find the two terminals for a price of around 170 euros in the case of the Mi 8 Lite and 180 euros in the case of the Redmi Note 7. Is it worth buying the first one compared to the Note 7? Our opinion is that no.
Although currently the Redmi Note 7 is somewhat less economical than the Mi 8 Lite, it is a mobile, in general terms, superior to the latter. Greater autonomy, more advanced charging system, more complete connectivity, more optimized design even if possible in terms of useful surface and a slightly higher photographic section.
And it is that although it is true that the base version of the Redmi Note 7 starts from 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, for about 20 euros more on average we can find the 4 and 64 GB version in stores such as Amazon or its own Xiaomi. Unless we prioritize aspects such as the size, thickness or weight of the device, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 seems like a better option in most cases.
