Xiaomi has done it again. It has launched a terminal with an impressive value for money. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 has a 6.3-inch screen, 48 MP main camera, 4,000 mAh battery and glass design for a price that does not reach 150 euros. Can other brands compete with such a device?
This is what we want to see when we put it face to face with one of the most recommended mobiles in the mid-range in recent years. The Motorola Moto G7 Plus has just been officially released and we believe that, for another year, it will be one of the main devices in the mid-range. It has a large screen, dual rear cameras, a powerful processor, and Android 9.
However, its price far exceeds that of the Xiaomi terminal. Is Motorola much better than the terminal of the Chinese manufacturer? We compare the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 with the Motorola Moto G7 Plus.

Design and display
Despite its low price, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 has a body that combines metal and glass. In addition, it sports a nice gradient color finish, so fashionable lately.
In the back we have the fingerprint reader located in the central area. The dual camera is in the upper left corner and in a vertical position. Its design is very reminiscent of that of Huawei and Honor terminals.
Ahead we have a 6.3-inch screen with a FHD + resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels. It offers a 1500: 1 contrast ratio and a 19.5: 9 aspect ratio. To place the front camera, Xiaomi has opted for the drop-shaped notch. Also, at the bottom we have a black frame not too thick, but quite visible.
We also have black frames on both the top and sides, but these are much narrower. The full dimensions of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 are 159.2 x 75.2 x 8.1 millimeters, with a weight of 186 grams. The terminal, at least in China, is available in three colors: black, blue and red.
For its part, the Motorola Moto G7 Plus has improved in design compared to its predecessors, but without losing the essence of the brand. It has a glass back that bends slightly at the ends.
The double camera is located in the central part, framed by the usual circle that identifies the manufacturer's terminals. Also striking is the fingerprint reader, located in the center but under the Motorola logo.
Ahead we have a 6.24-inch screen with a FHD + resolution of 1,080 x 2,270 pixels. Motorola has also opted for the drop-type notch for the front camera. In addition, it includes a lower frame in which we see the brand's logo and thin, but visible side and upper frames. So we have a design of the front very similar to that of its rival in this comparison.
The full dimensions of the Motorola Moto G7 Plus are 157 x 75.3 x 8.27 millimeters, with a weight of 172 grams. It is quite a bit lighter than its rival, but this is due to the battery capacity. It will hit the market in two colors: red and blue.
Photographic set
In the photographic section, both manufacturers have chosen to include a dual rear sensor system. But Xiaomi wanted to surprise with a camera with a lot of resolution.
The main sensor of the rear camera of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 has a resolution of 48 megapixels. This is accompanied by a second 5 megapixel sensor that controls depth. Also, the main sensor uses 1.6μm pixels and offers an f / 1.8 aperture.
Along with these two sensors, the redmi Note 7 has system approach PDAF phase detection, AI system with scene detection and video recording 1080p resolution at 60fps.
As for the front camera, it is equipped with a 13 megapixel sensor. It has a Portrait mode that is achieved through the AI system. A system that also applies, how could it be otherwise, to Beauty mode.
In Motorola they have preferred to play with other weapons. A main sensor with 16 megapixels and aperture f / 1.7 has been chosen. This is accompanied by a second 5 megapixel sensor and f / 2.2 aperture, which takes care of depth.
But perhaps the most interesting thing about Motorola's system is that they have included optical image stabilization (OIS). This, in principle, can be of great help when capturing photos under more difficult lighting conditions.
On the other hand, the Moto G7 Plus has a 12-megapixel front camera. We don't have much information on this yet, so we don't know if it will include Portrait mode. What we do know is that it includes a Group Selfie mode.
Processor and memory
That we are not facing top-of-the-range mobiles does not mean that we are not looking for good performance. For this, both models are equipped with a powerful processor and a large amount of RAM.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 hides under the hood a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor. Accompanying the processor we have several memory options, with 3, 4 or 6 GB of RAM. Storage also varies, with 32 or 64 GB depending on the version. A capacity that we can expand with a Micro SD card of up to 256 GB.
On the other hand, the Motorola Moto G7 Plus is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor. This is accompanied by 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. Apparently Motorola also has a version of the G7 Plus with 6 GB of RAM prepared, although we do not know if it will arrive in Spain. The technical set is completed by a slot for Micro SD cards up to 512 GB.
Autonomy and connectivity
Before we mentioned that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is much heavier than its rival. This is due to the capacity of its battery, which amounts to 4,000 milliamps. We have not yet been able to test the terminal so we do not know its real autonomy, but it should far exceed the full day.
In addition, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 has a fast charging system of 18W. It's not the fastest on the market, but at least it will take less time with a standard charging system.
As for the Moto G7 Plus, it is equipped with a 3,000 milliamp battery. It is a capacity that, for the size of the screen, seems somewhat short. It also includes a fast charging system, although this time it is 27W. That is, it should be significantly faster to load than its rival. We will have to wait to see the real autonomy of the terminal.
Not even in connectivity has Xiaomi saved costs. Both terminals have a USB Type C connection, WiFi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0.
To control all this technology, both devices opt for Android 9.0 Pie. However, we already know that Xiaomi devices include the manufacturer's MIUI customization layer.
Conclusions and price
After reviewing and comparing the characteristics of these two terminals, it is clear that they are devices that have many similarities. First in design, with the crystal as the protagonist in the back and the drop-shaped notch in the front.
In addition, both terminals have a front with small upper and side frames, as well as a larger lower frame. And if this were not enough, the screen is practically the same size and resolution.
Very similar design and virtually identical screen. So, for now, it all depends on the taste of each user. Will the photographic system be the one that will make us decide on one or the other? Well, without having tried them with our own hands it is difficult to say.
On the one hand we have the 48 megapixel camera of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. This has a good f / 1.8 aperture, PDAF focus and an AI system to detect scenes. On the other hand we have the Moto G7 Plus camera, with a main sensor of "only" 16 megapixels but that has a better aperture (f / 1.7) and optical stabilization.
We have always argued that a camera does not need to have many megapixels to be good. In addition, we think that the OIS system can be a great advantage over higher resolution. However, we have to wait for a verdict.
And in terms of brute force, we faced a Snapdragon 660 against a Snapdragon 636. According to some tests the Snapdragon 660 is 12.2% faster than the 636, so the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 should offer better performance. But, as happens other times, we do not think that in daily use it will be noticed.
Yes, you will almost certainly notice the difference in battery capacity between the two devices. We remember, the Redmi Note 7 equips a 4,000 milliamp battery compared to the 3,000 milliamp of the Moto G7 Plus. It is a notable difference, so in autonomy we must give a positive point to the Xiaomi terminal.
No difference in connectivity and few in software, although there are many who "accuse" Xiaomi's customization layer of being excessively intrusive.
And the price? Well, here we have an important difference again. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 will be launched in China with a price, in exchange, of about 130 euros. If the device finally arrives in Spain, this price will be much higher, although we do not believe that it will reach 200 euros. For its part, the Motorola Moto G7 Plus will hit the market with a price that will start from 300 euros. So, with that said, which one do you keep?
