A week later and for 200 euros we can buy the superior model, which will have 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. A terminal that appears about five months after its predecessor, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 and almost a year after the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. With the latter we are going to face the new king of the Chinese brand's entry range. Will it be worth buying if we already have the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5? Is it a noticeable jump between the models? Design
We go first with the section corresponding to the design of the terminal. This is one of the most notable differences of the terminal since the rear of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 offers a gradient color, in pink, blue and black, which gives it a unique and very attractive appearance. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is a very beautiful device, ideal for those who want a touch of distinction on their mobile. Likewise, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 has a more flattened format, although maintaining a rounded effect at the edges, not as pronounced as in the Redmi Note 5.
We find in both models the fingerprint sensor located in the upper half and in the camera we will also find differences: both dual sensors protrude from the body but in the Redmi Note 7 we find the dual sensor and then and outside the set of sensors, the flash LED; However, in the Redmi Note 5 we find the LED flash located between the sensors, the three elements forming the same set.
In the Redmi Note 5 the antenna bands are visible and we change the Mi logo to the Redmi one, since the model has been detached from the mother brand: from now on, Xiaomi's entry range will simply be Redmi.
Winner: if you want a terminal that looks more in keeping with the times, the winner is the Redmi Note 7
screen
The difference of both screens is also noticeable in both cases. In the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 we have a 5.99-inch screen, Full HD + resolution and IPS technology, while in the 2019 model we go to 6.3 inches and LTPS LCD technology also with Full HD + resolution. With these data in hand, who is the winner in this section? If you like screens with fewer frames more even if they have a notch (in the form of a drop, minimal) the winner is the Redmi Note 5. However, the whites of your screen seem to yellow a little more and their colors are a little less realistic than the Redmi Note 7. If you like colors a little more saturated, the Redmi Note 5 screen is your screen.
As for the edges, the Redmi Note 7 wins the game both at the top, by including a small drop-shaped notch, and at the bottom.
Winner: it will depend on how you like the screen of your mobile, neither screen is noticeably better than the other, although if you opt for a more modern design, without a doubt, the Redmi Note 7 is your phone.
Double sensor with an interesting difference
Surely you are already wondering which of the two terminals takes 'better photos'. Taking into account that the photos are taken by you, we can see differences between both terminals. With respect to the Redmi Note 5, we see that in light- dark situations it works better than the Note 7, it makes more effective use of HDR. This will undoubtedly be fixed by software updates, we must not forget that the Note 5 has been on the market longer and its camera is much more polished.
However, in flatter light situations, the Note 7 pulls out its chest, offering greater clarity overall.
Left, Note 5. Right, Note 7As for the selfie camera, we have a clear winner: the Redmi Note 7. Definition is better, clipping is better, and feel is more favorable in every way. Colors tend to be more saturating on the Redmi Note 5 and offer a slightly more artificial and burnt image.
It should also be taken into account that the Redmi Note 7 offers images at 48 megapixels but interpolated, not native. For this we will have to wait for the Redmi Note 7 Pro.
Winner: in this case the Redmi Note 7 takes the lead, although they will have to correct that small problem in high contrast images and the use of HDR.
Overall performance of both terminals
In this case we see that the Redmi Note 7 is an advance with respect to the Redmi Note 5 but, at the moment of truth, both terminals will satisfy the average user in any of their usual tasks. Both terminals open applications quickly and jump between them smoothly, without jerks. In addition, we have tested a demanding game, the Asphalt 9, on both phones, and the playability has been excellent on both. We have compared the terminals that offer 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. These are the Benchmark results after testing both of them.
Left, Note 5. Right., Note 7 Although both terminals, broadly speaking, offer the same performance, today I would choose to buy the Redmi Note 7, simply because the processor it offers is more powerful and current. If you want your mobile to last a little longer and become obsolete later, always buy the most recent version of the range. However, if you want to save about 40 euros, you can opt for the Redmi Note 5 with 4 GB and 64 GB of storage, yes, in the Chinese store. As the days go by, the savings will be more important and the Redmi Note 5 is a terminal with a large development community behind it, and that still has to give a lot of war.
Winner: personally, in this aspect I prefer the Redmi Note 7 but because it has a more current and powerful processor. For day-to-day purposes there is no noticeable difference between the performance of both terminals.
Autonomy, operating system and connectivity
A couple of days in both terminals
In this section, both the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 are very even. The autonomy is exactly the same, finding in both terminals a 4,000 mAh battery. This battery will offer the user with a more intensive use up to a duration of a day and a half. If the user makes normal use, they can use their mobile without charging it for up to two days in a row. The only difference lies in the fast charge version, which in the case of the Redmi Note 7 has evolved to Quick Charge 4.
Winner: a clear tie between the two terminals.
The latest version of Android on the Redmi Note 7
We are now talking about Android versions. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 comes standard with Android 9 Pie pre-installed, while the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is still in the previous version. It is unknown when he will make the jump to Foot, not even if he will eventually do so. However, in both terminals we have the latest version of MIUI 10 available, with functions such as gestures on the screen. Therefore, we will notice the changes of Android 9 at a deeper level, especially in relation to the management of power and energy that will be better in the new terminal of 2019.
Winner: there is no doubt here either and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is proclaimed the winner.
Surprise connectivity
Finally, and after much request from the users themselves, we find MicroUSB Type C in the new Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. Among the advantages offered by this connection is its reversibility, that is, we will always get it right when we insert the cable and that is a lot faster when transmitting files, doubling the figure of USB 3.0 up to 10 GB.
With respect to the rest of the connectivity, there are no surprises between both terminals. We have Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi Dual Band, LTE 4G, GPS, AGPS and GLONASS, FM Radio and infrared sensor to be able to use our mobile as a remote control. In this aspect there is no difference between one terminal and the other.
Winner: just for having USB Type C in the entry range, the Redmi Note 7 takes the prize in this section.
Last conclusions
Even taking into account that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, to this day, is still a terminal that can satisfy the average user, both in performance, autonomy and cameras, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is presented as a clear winner, especially for the price at which it will go on sale. I suggest that, if you buy one of the two Redmi Note 7 models, you clearly opt for the superior model with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage for 200 euros.
