Xiaomi has presented in the first four months of 2019 two new terminals that belong to the mid-range, in its widest range. On the one hand, we have the more modest Xiaomi Redmi 7 terminal that in its only version with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage is priced at 160 euros; on the other, we have the superior Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, with two versions: 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage for 180 euros and 200 euros, respectively. Although the Xiaomi Redmi 7 has two more versions, currently only the one mentioned is available in the official Xiaomi store.
Three prices for three different alternatives, depending on the demands and economy of the user. Which of the three versions will suit you the most? Do not miss our comparison below in which we will put, face to face, these two terminals of the Xiaomi mid-range.
Before starting to make the comparison, you have to take into account that between the Xiaomi Redmi 7 and the basic Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 there is a price difference of 20 euros. With respect to the top Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, 40 euros more. Having put prices in perspective, we begin with the comparison.
COMPARATIVE SHEET
An almost traced design
We will see few differences in terms of the design of these two terminals. It could almost be said that they are two twin brothers just from their looks. They both feature a back panel in three different gradient colors (blue, red, and black) and both feature a teardrop notched panel. The dimensions of both terminals are very similar. We have the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 with 159.2 x 75.2 x 8.1 millimeters and the Xiaomi Redmi 7 with 158.7 x 75.6 x 8.5 millimeters. Only the weight varies, the superior version gaining 6 grams (see table).
The arrangement of dual camera sensor, LED flash and fingerprint sensor is identical in both the Redmi Not and the Redmi 7. We would say, then, that in this section we find a clear tie. We would only see the differences as we look closer to the panel, since the Redmi Note 7 screen has Full HD + resolution compared to the HD + of the Redmi 7, both having practically the same screen size. It is one of the aspects in which the price reduction between terminals is noticeable. To assess this, take into account the price difference between the two terminals.
Regarding the construction material, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 combines the glass of the front and back with the construction plastic of the side frames. We have not found data about the construction materials of the Xiaomi Redmi 7.
Two cameras with portrait modeā¦ and with differences
The most striking thing about this section is the 48 megapixel image that the main sensor of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 can offer. It is, without a doubt, one of the star aspects of this terminal. To this sensor with focal aperture f / 1.8 must be added a secondary sensor of 5 megapixels with focal aperture f / 2.2.
If we look at the Redmi 7 we can see a much more austere double sensor than in the case of its older brother: 12 plus 2 megapixels with portrait mode and Artificial Intelligence capable of detecting scenes, a function also located in the Redmi Note 7 Pro. to the selfie camera, we have a 13 megapixel sensor in the Redmi Note 7 and an 8 megapixel sensor in the Redmi 7.
As you can see, if what you really care about on a mobile phone is the photographic section, for 20 euros more we recommend buying the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. However, if you prefer other aspects and for the only thing you want the camera of the mobile is to take specific images and send them to your friends on social networks, we recommend the Redmi 7. As a curiosity, add that the selfie camera of the Redmi 7 has a function that the Redmi Note 7 does not have: to be able to take a selfie just by placing the palm of the hand in front of the mobile screen.
Snapdragon on both terminalsā¦ and with differences
We get into the guts of the new Redmi to verify that both carry Snapdragon processors although with differences that show the price of both:
- In the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 we have the Snapdragon 660 which, according to our performance tests, combines perfectly with the 4 GB RAM. An 8-core processor and a clock speed of 2.2 GHz.
- In the Xiaomi Redmi 7 we go down the step until we find the Snapdragon 635 with eight cores and a clock speed of 1.8 GHz.
What conclusions do we draw from these head-to-head data? That for a normal and not too demanding use of our mobile (we mean heavy games, photo editing applications, etc.) the Redmi 7 is going to provide us with what we need. But if we want something more, more fluidity in demanding games and greater fluidity in the passage between applications and speed when opening them, we will have to use the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. And, in this model, go directly to the mode of 4 GB and 64 GB. The difference is 40 euros between terminals but we believe that it is worth the jump if you are one of those who use your mobile phone daily and with great intensity.
Autonomy and operating system
Here there is no discussion, the two terminals take the jack to the water. Xiaomi is clear about it and endows its Redmi range of batteries with high capacity, knowing that it is a factor that users take into account when spending their money. So in both the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and the Xiaomi Redmi 7 we have a 4,000 mAh battery. Taking into account that the latter also has a screen with less resolution and a less powerful processor, we can venture to say that the couple of days of use can be greatly exceeded, since the personal tests gave us a day and a half use in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. Both terminals have fast charging, being 10W in the case of the Redmi 7 and 14W in the case of the Redmi Note 7.
The same in the case of the operating system: both come out of the box with Android 9 Pie installed, the latest version of Android, under the MIUI 10 customization layer.
Connectivity
A notable difference in terms of the two terminals: the appearance, finally, and after much waiting for it by users, of the reversible USB Type C connection in the Xiaomi Redmi range, in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. We have the usual microUSB on the Xiaomi Redmi 7 which, without being a poor connection, already feels a bit outdated in 2019.
Another difference that we see between the terminals is that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 has Bluetooth 5.0 and the Redmi 7 has Bluetooth 4.2. This, however, will not affect your daily use, being able to link our devices on both terminals without any problem. And to end the differences section, in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 we can connect to the fast 5GHz band while in the Redmi 7 we can only have access to the 2.4GHz band. For the rest, both terminals have an infrared port to become a universal remote control in addition to having FM Radio. Of course, the connections section is completed by the usual GPS to know where we are at all times.
Conclusions
20 euros of savings can be a world for many people, but we are talking about an amount that is not excessive. If you are going to choose the model with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, the only one available in Spain and for the moment the Xiaomi Redmi 7, we advise you to buy the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. For that extra amount you will have a better screen, better camera and a more powerful processor.
However, if you are looking at the possibility of buying the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 with 4 GB of RAM the price goes up to 40 euros more. Only the user will be able to know if it is really worth spending those 40 euros more to get that extra bonus.
