Design
Xiaomi Mi A2 design
If in previous comparisons the design was one of the least differential aspects of the devices, in this case we find clear differences, both in the construction of the smartphones and in their lines. The Xiaomi Mi A2, for example, has an aluminum construction and a notchless front design. Its upper and lower margins as well as sides are higher than those of the Pocophone.
Pocophone F1 design
As for the design of the latter, its construction is based entirely on plastic, unlike the Mi A2, and the design of its front part has the well-known notch, which houses the infrared sensor used in facial unlocking. Remarkable is that despite having a larger screen and capacity, the Pocophone's size is significantly smaller, not being the case in weight, which amounts to more than 180 grams.
screen
In the aspect of the screen is where we find the least differences, especially in relation to the technology used. In both panels we have the same technology: IPS LCD. The resolution of the two is also the same (FullHD +), although in the case of the Pocophone F1 the number of pixels per inch is lower due to its larger size, around 0.19 inches apart.
In addition to the slight difference in size, the notch of the recently presented model stands out over the Xiaomi Mi A2, which opts for a somewhat more traditional look. The rest of the characteristics are practically identical in both cases, at least in technical data.
Photographic set
The cameras of the two devices is another aspect where we find the most differences. Despite the two Xiaomi terminals belong to different ranges, the truth is that the Mi A2 has both a front and rear upper camera, at least in terms of technical data. Specifically, we find two 12 and 20 megapixel rear sensors with the same focal aperture f / 1.75, which helps us to obtain not only defined images, but also bright in low light conditions. Remarkable is its portrait mode, which is positioned as one of the best on the market, although in this case we sacrificed the 2x optical zoom that we obtained in last year's Xiaomi Mi A1 (we can resort to digital zoom).
As for the rear Pocophone F1 camera, the sensors have slightly less resolution and aperture. More specifically, it has two 12 and 5 megapixel sensors with aperture f / 1.9 and 2.0. The photographs, at least in technical data, aim to be less bright and with lower quality of definition.
Regarding the front camera of both devices, we find great differences. 20 megapixels in the case of the Xiaomi Mi A2 and 5 in the case of the Pocophone. While the aperture of the former is f / 1.8, that of the F1 is only f / 2.0. How could it be otherwise, both have facial unlocking and Artificial Intelligence, although in the case of the Poco it is through hardware through infrared, which ensures better operation. We will have to test the latter to see if it is.
Autonomy and connectivity
In the section on autonomy there is no doubt: Poco's mobile is significantly superior to Xiaomi's. Despite having the same charging technology via USB type C (Quick Charge 3rd), the Poco F1's battery capacity is around 990 mAh higher (4000 mAh to be exact). That of the Mi A2 is only 3010 mAh, something fair for its screen size, although sufficient for most users due to the autonomy management of Android One.
The connectivity section, unlike the autonomy, is exactly the same in both terminals. Bluetooth 5.0 and Dual WiFi as the most prominent connections. Worth noting is that in the Pocophone F1 we have an FM radio as standard (in the Mi A2 we will have to activate it manually as in the Mi A1). In none of the models can we expand the internal storage using microSD cards. Nor do we have NFC, something worth noting if we want to make payments through mobile phones with some ease.
Processor and memory
The biggest difference between the two devices is found in the depths of their hardware: the processor and memory. The Mi A2 of the Chinese brand bets on the Snapdragon 660 along with 4 and 6 GB of RAM, a configuration more than known in mid-range terminals. As for the Pocophone F1, the processor chosen in this case is the highest of Qualcomm's range, the Snapdragon 845 along with 6 and 8 GB of RAM. The latter is accompanied by a liquid cooling system that according to information from Poco manages to improve the performance of the mobile over other mobiles with a similar system, such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 9.
The GPU of both terminals is based on an Adreno 512 in the case of the Xiaomi and 630 in the Poco. This not only translates into better handling of the system when navigating through it, but also in better performance in games like Fortnite or PUBG with a high content of textures and physics. Energy efficiency, on the other hand, is better in the case of the 660, mainly due to its lower power and frequency. The system chosen in the case of the two terminals is Android One in version 8.1 of Android in the case of the Mi A2 and MIUI 9.6 in the case of the Pocophone F1, also based on Android Oreo 8.1. The two terminals are expected to update to Android 9 Pie in the coming months.
Conclusions
Having seen all the points of the Xiaomi Mi A2 and the Pocophone F1, it is time to draw conclusions. As you may have guessed throughout the reading, the terminal of the newly released brand has a specification sheet well above that of the Xiaomi Mi A2. This does not mean that it is necessarily a better smartphone. Aspects such as the design or the camera are superior in the case of the Mi A2. In the case of the Pocophone, its greatest virtues are undoubtedly power and battery. What is the differential value of these two mobiles? Without a doubt, the price.
The base model of the Xiaomi Mi A2 can be found today at a minimum price of 249 euros, although in some stores we can buy it for only 209 euros. On the contrary, the price of the Pocophone F1 remains at only 329 euros, the lowest price seen to date in a mobile with similar characteristics. Which one is worth more then? Depending on our preferences. If we are looking for a mobile with a remarkable photographic section and an aluminum design, the Mi A2 is our terminal. In the event that we are looking for raw power and autonomy, then Poco's mobile will be the best candidate, not only in this comparison, but also in comparison to any current mobile.
Worth mentioning is also the inclusion of Android One in the case of the Xiaomi terminal, which ensures a period of updates of at least two years. The Pocophone, on the contrary, has an adapted version of MIUI in its version 9.6 with Poco's launcher, which according to the company's own words has a superior performance than the rest of the mobile phones on the market, even above the OnePlus 6.
