So far in 2019 we have not stopped seeing mid-range phones. The manufacturers have put the batteries to delight us with such interesting proposals as the Xiaomi Mi 9T and Samsung Galaxy A70, two phones with very interesting features at a price within the reach of all budgets. Both include a large panel, the protagonist, with almost no frames, a triple camera, large battery or Android 9 system. We can say that they are prepared to meet the demands of users who are looking for a device for much more than talking and browsing.
Both the Samsung Galaxy A70 and the Xiaomi Mi 9T can already be purchased in Spain at a price of 360 euros and from 330 euros, respectively. However, as we know that you may have some doubts about which may be the best option for you, don't miss our next comparison.
Comparative sheet
1. Design and display
If we look closely, both the Xiaomi Mi 9T and the Samsung Galaxy A70 sport a large panel in which there is almost no presence of frames. However, they differ in a small detail. While the Mi 9T does not include a notch or perforation in the screen, the A70 includes a notch in the shape of a drop of water to house the front camera. This slight difference can be definitive for many users, who do not like the notch at all. You will wonder then, where the sensor for selfies is housed in the Xiaomi mobile. This is hidden in the upper part, it is retractable, and it only activates when it is done.
Regarding the materials used, the Xiaomi Mi 9T is built in glass reinforced with Gorilla Glass. The A70, meanwhile, wears what the company calls 3D Glasstic, which is nothing if not plastic with a glossy finish that mimics glass. Of course, in both models the corners are slightly curved to facilitate holding. If we flip them, they both show a clean back, with a very prominent shine on the A70, although the camera layout and logos change. While the Galaxy A70 includes the triple sensor in one of the corners, very collected, with the logo located in the central part, Xiaomi has added it to the Mi 9T right in the middle, the logo is shown a little lower following the same pattern. The dimensions are very different, with a Galaxy A70 considerably thinner and lighter than its rival (7.9 mm thick and 180 grams in weight vs 8.8 millimeters thick and 190 grams in weight). Something that they do have in common is a fingerprint reader under the panel.
On the screens, we can say that both offer a good quality of viewing, but there are differences also in this section. Again, the A70 wins thanks to a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED panel with Full HD + resolution (2,400 x 1,080) and 20: 9 ratio. During our tests, we had no problem using it in broad daylight. In addition, we were able to verify that its angle of view is quite wide until the colors are degraded. Without a doubt, a good panel, where as a general rule Samsung always does a good job.
For its part, the Xiaomi Mi 9T uses a slightly lower technology, size and ratio: 6.39-inch AMOLED with 19.5: 9 format. The resolution is the same: Full HD + (1080 x 2340 pixels).
Processor and memory
The power of the Xiaomi Mi 9T and Galaxy A70 is very similar. The first houses a mid-range Snapdragon 710 processor, accompanied by 6 GB of RAM. The one in the A70 is an 8-core Snapdragon SM 6150, also along with 6 GB of RAM. For storage, the A70 only offers a single 128GB capacity. The Mi 9T can be chosen with 64 or 128 GB. In both cases, it is a fairly solvent set to make use of current applications or work with several processes at the same time.
Photographic section
Both the Xiaomi Mi 9T and the Samsung Galaxy A70 include a triple photographic sensor on the back, of course, with some marked differences. Let's go by parts. The one in the Galaxy A70 is made up of a 32-megapixel main sensor and f / 1.7 focal aperture, accompanied by a second 8-megapixel wide-angle sensor, f / 2.2 focal aperture and 123º vision. The third sensor is a 5 megapixel telephoto lens and f / 2.2 focal aperture. During our tests we verified that the captures are of good quality, quite sharp and with natural colors. As for the bokeh or portrait effect, the results are those expected in a mid-range mobile. It manages to detect the different planes without problem, but it is not surprising like the highest-end phones, which is logical.
For selfies, the Galaxy A70 also delivers thanks to a 32-megapixel sensor with f / 2.0 aperture. This is housed in the front notch and achieves self-portraits that are not bad at all, especially when there is enough light.
The Xiaomi Mi 9T is the winner in this section, but just barely. This model offers a triple sensor consisting of a 48-megapixel one with an aperture of f / 1.7, followed by a second 13-megapixel wide-angle lens with an f / 2.4 aperture. The last sensor is an 8 megapixel telephoto lens and f / 2.4 aperture. The positive in his case is that the whole set is reinforced by the AI, which is applied to the recognition of scenes to get better photos. Selfies are handled by a 20-megapixel retractable camera, which, as we say, is hidden at the top of the device and is activated only when it is taken.
Battery and connections
If you usually pay attention to the battery section when buying a new mobile, surely you will not leave doubts if you only look at this when choosing one of the two models. And it is that the two have a very similar autonomy. However, the battery of the Galaxy A70 has a higher capacity. The device equips a 4,500 mAh with fast charge, which will give us more than a full day without problems. That of the Xiaomi Mi 9T is 4,000 mAh (also with fast charge).
Regarding the connections, the two offer a wide range of options, the usual ones in this type of models: 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 b / g / n Dual, GPS GLONASS, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB type C.
Also, both are governed by Android 9 Pie. In the Samsung Galaxy A70 it does so under the customization layer of the Samsung One UI company and in the Mi 9T under MIUI 10.
