Almost a year ago Xiaomi surprised with the Pocophone F1, a mobile with the company's seal but that inaugurated a new sub-brand. It came to revolutionize the mid-range thanks to features such as dual cameras, an eight-core processor, 6 GB of RAM, a design with almost no notches, or a 4,000 mAh battery. All this at an affordable price, within reach of all pockets.
Months later, the mid-range has continued to evolve and Xiaomi with it. One of the last examples we have in the Xiaomi Mi 9T. This terminal, very similar to the Redmi K20 Pro, has surprised by its main panel, triple camera, retractable front camera, or a fingerprint reader integrated into the screen. It is true that one next to the other, the Mi 9T slightly overshadows the Pocophone F1, although it is undeniable that in some sections it cannot with it. Do you want to know which ones? We then put these two teams face to face and analyze them point by point.
Comparative sheet
Design and display
At first glance, the Xiaomi Mi 9T stands out from its rival in this comparison. The new device is at the level of other current medium and high ranges, with a panel with almost no frames in which there is no presence of elements that distract our attention, such as a notch or perforation on the screen. The front camera is hidden in the upper part, it is retractable, and it only activates when taking a selfie. In any case, it has the same thickness as the Pocophone F1: 8.8 millimeters, although its weight is greater (191 grams vs 180 grams).
Xiaomi has also used different materials for its construction. The Mi 9T wears a glass chassis reinforced with Gorilla Glass and features slightly curved corners. Its appearance is elegant, and it also comes in several colors to choose from: black, red and blue. For its part, the Pocophone F1's casing is made of polycarbonate, although it could perfectly pass through metal. Precisely, this last material is present in their frames. We can say that it has a fairly soft and pleasant touch, with rounded edges.
If we turn them around, the differences continue. The Xiaomi Mi 9T presents a clean design on its back, with a triple camera arranged in one of the corners and located in a vertical position. The rear of the Pocophone F1 is also minimalist, although its camera is positioned right in the upper center, which can give a feeling of less space. This terminal also has the fingerprint reader under the cameras, a rather uncomfortable place for many users, who end up accidentally putting their fingerprint on top of the photographic sensor. However, the Mi 9T includes it on the panel itself, a feature that is becoming common in mid-range and high-end phones.
As for the size of the screens, the Pocophone F1 has a 6.18-inch screen with a FHD + resolution of 2,246 x 1,080 pixels and 403 dpi and a format of 18.7: 9. It offers a maximum brightness of 500 nits and a contrast ratio of 1500: 1. The Xiaomi Mi 9T boasts a slightly larger panel, with a 6.39-inch screen diagonal. In addition, thanks to the fact that it does not include notch, it is possible to take better advantage of the bezels. This model has Full HD + resolution and a 19.5: 9 format.
Processor and memory
At the power level, they should behave in a similar way, although it should be noted that the Pocophone F1 houses inside a processor slightly higher than that of the Xiaomi Mi 9T. This is a Snapdragon 845, Qualcomm's flagship SoC in 2018, the main engine of some of last year's best teams. This Chip is accompanied in the terminal by a 6 GB RAM and a storage capacity of 64 or 128 GB (expandable by using microSD cards of up to 256 GB).
In its favor we will also say that it includes a liquid cooling system, which is responsible for dissipating heat in the moments of greatest demand, for example when we are playing heavy games or using many apps at the same time. The chip that powers the Xiaomi Mi 9T is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730, an inferior processor, but which should give a similar performance in moments of medium strength. This also goes hand in hand with 6 GB and an internal space of 64 or 128 GB.
Photographic section
And we come to a section in which the Pocophone F1 is undoubtedly completely losing. Do not forget that the terminal arrived when the triple camera was a characteristic of high-end models. Therefore, it is satisfied with a dual camera with a first 12 megapixel Sony IMX363 sensor with 1.4 µm pixels, f / 1.9 aperture and Dual Pixel focusing system. The second sensor has a resolution of 5 megapixels, 1.12 μm pixels, and f / 2 aperture.
For selfies we have a 20 megapixel sensor with f / 2.0 aperture. One of its positive points is that it uses the Super Pixel technique to obtain 1.8 micrometer pixels. In addition, it has an infrared system for facial recognition, which, according to the company, is capable of being recognized in the dark.
The Xiaomi Mi 9T comes out winning in this section, as we say. It includes a triple sensor consisting of a 48-megapixel first with an aperture of f / 1.7. The second, wide-angle camera is 13 megapixels with f / 2.4 aperture. Finally, these two sensors are accompanied by a third 8-megapixel telephoto lens and f / 2.4 aperture. As a whole they are reinforced by the AI, which is applied to the recognition of scenes to achieve better captures.
When taking a selfie, the front camera will be activated, which is hidden at the top of the device. This has a resolution of 20 megapixels, the same as its rival.
System and battery
Although the Pocophone F1 has the company's MIUI customization layer, it is hidden under its own launcher with the idea of making it lighter so that it obtains better performance. Therefore, we can say that MIUI has little, and that it also completely departs from the design of Android 8.1 Oreo, which is the system that governs it as standard (although it is already possible to update it to Android 9 Pie).
View to the Pocophone F1 launcher
This is how this model has a very different interface from other terminals with MIUI. Among the main features of this special customization layer, we can highlight the possibility of automatically grouping applications by type of app. It also offers the ability to group icons by color. The Xiaomi Mi 9T does already arrive with Android 9.0 Pie as standard under MIUI 10.
At the battery level, both phones equip a 4,000 mAh with fast charge, which should ensure a fairly decent autonomy for more than a full day.
Conclusions and price
Although the Pocophone F1 is a mobile that has already been on the market for almost a year, it is still a very appropriate option for anyone looking for an affordable mid-range phone. Currently, it can be purchased at a price of 280 euros in stores such as Media Markt or Phone House. The Xiaomi Mi 9T is more at the height of those who need a next-generation mid-range with all the current features that have arrived during 2019, such as the screen without notch, the triple camera or the fingerprint reader under the screen. Its price, how could it be otherwise, is somewhat higher: between 380-390 euros depending on the store, that is, 100 euros more than the price of the Pocophone F1. A fairly small range for the large number of prominent differences it boasts.
