The OnePlus 7 has finally been unveiled by the Oppo-owned brand. The terminal comes as an evolution of the OnePlus 6T of the last generation and a series of improvements that affect performance, the camera and the multimedia section. In front we are faced with rivals such as the Xiaomi Mi 9, a phone with which the OnePlus mobile is quite similar. Which mobile will be worth more and what are the differences between the OnePlus 7 and the Xiaomi Mi 9? We see it in our comparison of the Xiaomi Mi 9 vs OnePlus 7.

Design
Regarding the design, the differences between the OnePlus 7 vs Xiaomi Mi 9 are rather scarce. We can see it on the front of both devices, with an almost identical appearance in terms of dimensions and shape of the notch in a drop of water format.
In fact, both the OnePlus 7 and the Xiaomi have almost identical length, width and weight. The only differences in this aspect are found in the thickness, of about 0.6 millimeters of difference thanks to the differences in the capacities of the batteries (3,000 mAh of the Xiaomi Mi 9 versus the 3,700 mAh of the OnePlus).
As for the rear, here the differences are somewhat more tangible due to the location and arrangement of the cameras. In the case of Xiaomi, we find a camera module located in the upper left corner with no less than three different sensors. The OnePlus 7 opts, for its part, for an arrangement in the bisector of the rear and a module made up of two cameras.
Otherwise, the two terminals are identical in all other respects. Same port location, same construction materials (metal and glass), absence of headphone jack and similar screen ratio. The exception in this aspect comes from the hand of the double speaker of the OnePlus 7 located next to the front camera, as well as the implementation of the Alert Slider button to silence notifications.
screen
As with the design section, we find few differences on the screen of both devices.
The two panels have the same AMOLED technology, the same resolution, the same type of fingerprint sensor and a similar ratio based on 19: 9 (19.5: 9 in the case of OnePlus 7). The only difference is found, in the absence of data such as the nits of brightness or the level of representation of colors in the NTSC spectrum, in size; 6.39 inches in the case of the Xiaomi Mi 9 and 6.41 inches in the case of the OnePlus 7.
Another of the highlights of the OnePlus 7 has to do with the larger size of its fingerprint sensor, making it one of the fastest readers, if not the fastest, in the world.
Photographic set
We come to one of the most interesting sections of the Xiaomi Mi 9 vs OnePlus 7. And although it is true that both start from the same main sensor, the 48 megapixel Sony IMX586 and focal aperture f / 1.75, the differences in this aspect are found in the rest of the sensors.
On the part of the Xiaomi Mi 9 we find two assistance sensors with wide-angle and telephoto lenses of 16 and 12 megapixels with focal aperture f / 2.2 in both cases. As for the OnePlus 7, it opts for a single 5-megapixel secondary sensor and f / 2.4 focal aperture. The result, as expected, will be slightly higher in the Xiaomi Mi 9, especially in terms of versatility.
Photographs in portrait mode with greater execution and a wide-angle sensor that provides images with a much greater field of vision by having an aperture that reaches 117º. Regarding the photographs with the main sensor, the differences are non-existent, being based on the same sensor.
If we move to the front of both devices, the theory tells us that the sensor of the Xiaomi Mi 9 has higher quality, as it has a higher resolution. Specifically, we are facing a 20 megapixel sensor with an f / 2.0 focal aperture compared to a 16 megapixel sensor and the same focal aperture as the Xiaomi Mi 9 sensor in the case of the OnePlus 7.
Again, aspects such as portrait mode are clearly superior in the Xiaomi model thanks to the better management of Artificial Intelligence in the camera application of the Chinese firm.
Processor and memory
In the processor and memory section, the differences are rather scarce, having practically similar hardware.
Snapdragon 855 processor, Adreno 640 GPU and 6 and 8 GB of RAM in what we find in the two terminals of the Chinese firms. The only difference between the Xiaomi Mi 9 vs OnePlus 7 is found in the memory configuration, which in the case of the Mi 9 starts from the 64 GB instead of the 128 GB of the OnePlus 7.
It should also be mentioned that the latter bases its memory on the new UFS 3.0 standard, which represents a double speed improvement compared to the UFS 2.1 type of the Xiaomi Mi 9. It is expected, therefore, that the performance will be much more solvent on the OnePlus 7 both when opening and closing applications and handling system files. To this is added the work of OxygenOS, one of the fastest layers of Android today.
Autonomy and connectivity
Autonomy is, together with the photographic section, one of the biggest differences of the OnePlus 7 vs Xiaomi Mi 9.
In short, we find a 3,700 mAh battery compatible with Dash Charge fast charging technology. On the side of the Xiaomi Mi 9 we find a 3,000 mAh module together with the Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging system that in numbers is much slower than the OnePlus option. Be that as it may, and in the absence of testing the latter, the autonomy of the OnePlus is clearly superior to what the Xiaomi Mi 9 can offer in normal use conditions, although the MIUI management helps to alleviate this same lack.
Regarding the connectivity of both terminals, the differences are again negligible. The only implementations that differ between one model and another have to do with the OnePlus 7 USB Type-C 3.1 standard, which allows, among other things, greater data transfer and the possibility of connecting external monitors to it when Android enable it, and the infrared sensor of the Xiaomi Mi 9, which, among other things, has the function of interacting with other devices (television, radio, stereo, air conditioning…).
For the rest, both devices have Bluetooth 5.0, Dual GPS, WiFi compatible with all bands, NFC and all kinds of connections, except for the headphone jack.
Conclusions and opinions
After seeing all the differences between the Xiaomi Mi 9 and the OnePlus 7, it is time to draw conclusions, which largely depend on the price of both terminals. And it is that while the Xiaomi Mi 9 has a starting configuration based on 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, the OnePlus 7 opts for a configuration of 6 and 128 GB. The price difference in both cases is 110 euros (449 euros compared to 559 for the OnePlus 7). Is it worth opting for the Xiaomi Mi 9 to the detriment of the OnePlus 7? In our opinion, yes.
Unless we prioritize aspects such as autonomy, the implementation of pure Android, fast charging or the fluidity of the system when it comes to managing between applications, the purchase of the Xiaomi Mi 9 seems like a much smarter option.
Only in the case that we opt for the 128 GB model, which increases its price to 499 euros, the OnePlus 7 will be the most recommended model. At the end of the day, the latter is a superior model in practically every aspect, with the exception of the photographic section.
