The Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite is already official. The Chinese company has launched it for the first time in Spain for a price that starts from 320 euros, placing the terminal in the range of mobile phones between 300 and 400 euros. In front we find phones very similar to the latter even within the brand itself. We refer to the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, a device that in addition to sharing part of the design coincides with most of the technical sections. What are the differences between the Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite vs Xiaomi Mi 9 SE? Is the latter worth it compared to the newly introduced 9 Lite? We see it below.

Design
Few differences in design are found between one mobile and another. Beyond the difference in size, the two devices have an almost identical appearance, with a chassis made of glass and metal that in both cases is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 coating.
Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite design.
In terms of dimensions, the Mi 9 Lite has a 6.39-inch screen, which gives it a size that is 15.6 centimeters high, 7.4 wide and 8.6 thick.. His weight? 179 grams, thanks, in part, to the capacity of its battery, rather than its size.
As for the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, the device moves away from the dimensions of its counterpart by integrating a 5.97-inch screen, which translates into only 14.7 centimeters high and 7 centimeters wide. The weight is significantly lower, at just 155 grams and 7.4 centimeters thick.
Xiaomi Mi 9 SE design.
Otherwise, the two terminals are identical in the vast majority of sections: fingerprint sensor on the screen, notch in the shape of a drop of water… Perhaps the most notable difference has to do with the absence of a jack connector for headphones on the case of Mi 9 SE.
screen
If the dissimilarities in design are rather scarce, the differences in terms of screen technology are practically non-existent. And it is that despite the fact that the two panels have different sizes (6.39 inches in the Mi 9 Lite compared to 5.97 in the Mi 9 SE), the screen is the same in both cases.
AMOLED technology, Full HD + resolution, 19.5: 9 ratio, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, 600 nits of brightness and 103% NTSC color gamut. We can therefore deduce that the panel is the same, in the absence of live tests. Nor should we find great differences between the fingerprint sensors on the screen that both devices integrate, since both use an optical sensor, that is, with light in between to analyze the geography of the fingerprint.
Processor and memory
We come to what is probably the most controversial section of all: the technical specifications. Using data, we find almost traced hardware: 6 GB of RAM, 64 and 128 GB of internal storage of type UFS 2.1… The main difference between one and the other lies in the processor, which in the case of the Mi 9 Lite It is a Snapdragon 710 and in the case of the Mi 9 SE it is a Snapdragon 712. What difference does it make?
Roughly, we can say that the frequency of each core is higher in the 712, which should result in a slightly higher performance, an improvement that does not interfere with games by integrating the same Adreno 616 GPU.
Another novelty that this processor presents compared to its predecessor is based on compatible fast charging technology: Quick Charge 4+ compared to Quick Charge 4 of the 710. Unfortunately, Xiaomi has decided to integrate the same 18 W fast charging technology in the two terminals. Finally, it should be noted the possibility of expansion through micro SD cards up to 256 GB that the Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite presents.
Photographic set
Three cameras, three independent sensors, and a 48 megapixel main sensor. What differences are there between the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE vs Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite? Many, in fact.
Ignoring the main sensor, which in both cases corresponds to a 48 megapixel Sony IMX586 and focal aperture f / 1.7, we have the differences between the two mid-range Xiaomi phones in the rest of the sensors. And it is that although both have a sensor with a 118º and 8 megapixel wide-angle lens in the case of the Mi 9 Lite and 13 in the case of the Mi 9 SE, the focal aperture of the first is wider, which results in brighter photos in a dimly lit environment.
As for the third sensor, this uses a telephoto lens in the Mi 9 SE of 8 megapixels, which allows us to capture images with optical zoom without any loss of information. The Mi 9 Lite, for its part, uses a sensor of only 2 megapixels whose functions are limited to calculating the depth of the images. In theory, the latter should give better results in portrait mode photos.
And what about the front cameras? Curiously, here the palm is taken by the Mi 9 Lite, with a 32 megapixel sensor and an f / 2.0 focus aperture. The Mi 9 SE, on the other hand, has a 20 megapixel sensor and the same focal aperture. The result? The theory tells us that the selfies of the Mi 9 Lite should provide higher quality.
Autonomy and connectivity
If there is a substantial improvement to the Mi 9 Lite vs Mi 9 SE that is the battery, a battery that is almost 1,000 mAh higher than the SE: 4,030 mAh compared to the 3,070 of the SE. In a real user experience, this difference should translate into several more hours of screen time. Saving this aspect, both have the same 18 W fast charging system, although if we take the capacity of both models as a reference, that of the 9 Lite should be slower.
Moving on to the connectivity section, here the differences are again scarce, or practically non-existent. Both have Dual WiFi, GPS compatible with all satellites, USB type C 2.0, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC technology for mobile payments and an infrared sensor for remote control functions. Unfortunately, neither of them has an FM radio. We once again emphasize the presence of a headphone jack on the Mi 9 Lite, something that many users will undoubtedly miss on the Mi 9 SE.
Conclusions and price
After seeing the main differences between the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE vs Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite, it is time to draw conclusions, which largely depend on the price. The official price of both today is 350 and 320 euros, although it is possible to buy both models for a price of 299 euros in the Xiaomi store for a limited period of time. Which mobile is worth more? Without a doubt, the Mi 9 Lite.
The main argument of this choice has to do with its battery, a battery that should give us several more hours of use a day. The rest of the aspects are practically identical in both cases: design, screen technology, connectivity, fast charging and so on.
The exception in this case comes from the hand of the processor, whose difference with that of the Mi 9 Lite is ridiculous in a real experience of use. Let us remember that both have the same memory configuration (6 GB of RAM and 64 and 128 GB of internal storage), although that of the Mi 9 Lite is expandable up to 256 GB if we use micro SD cards.
Perhaps the choice of the Mi 9 SE over the 9 Lite makes sense if we stick to its screen size, ideal for those who prefer small screens. We must bear in mind, yes, that we will lose autonomy along the way.
