It's here. After many rumors and leaks, the new Samsung Galaxy S9 have already been officially presented. This year Samsung has maintained a very similar design, to focus on other aspects. The most remarkable, without a doubt, is the photographic section. The Samsung Galaxy S9 + incorporates two 12-megapixel lenses, one of them with a variable aperture that ranges between f / 1.5 and 2.4.
A new processor is also included and the RAM memory is increased. In short, we could say that the Samsung Galaxy S9 + is an evolution of last year's model. However, is the new model worth waiting or better to take advantage of the current S8 + offerings? To check this, we are going to compare the new Samsung Galaxy S9 + and the Samsung Galaxy S8 +.

Design
Last year Samsung surprised with a new design with practically no frames. This has been maintained, to a greater or lesser extent, in the following terminals of the company, such as the Note 8 and the Galaxy A8. It was logical that the same design was maintained this year, thus being able to focus on other aspects.
Thus, the use of glass and metal for the body of the terminal is maintained. The rear has rounded edges and shows a slight redesign that users will appreciate. In addition to the incorporation of the double camera, which we will talk about later, we have a relocation of the fingerprint reader. This one has moved just below the cameras. It's one of the biggest complaints I had about the S8, so Samsung has listened to the press and users.
In the front he continues to rule the screen. The critical eye can appreciate that the infinity screen gains even more ground at the front of the terminal, further reducing the frames. For most users, both terminals will be practically identical.
The dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy S9 + are 158 x 73.8 x 8.5 millimeters, with a weight of 183 grams. The terminal will be available in three colors: black, blue and a pretty purple.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 + also uses glass and metal. It has a rounded finish, both on the back and front. Precisely in the back we have the fingerprint reader, as you already know, located right next to the camera.
At the front, the main protagonist is the screen, with a very striking curved finish. The dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy S8 + are 159.5 x 73.4 x 8.1 millimeters, with a weight of 173 grams. That is, the S9 + is 0.4 mm thicker and 1.5 mm lower. In addition, it weighs 10 grams more than its predecessor. This terminal is available in four colors: blue, black, silver and gray.
screen
A time has come when it is difficult to innovate on mobile screens. They could increase the resolution, yes, but this would penalize the performance of the terminal, without being a great advantage for the user.
That's why Samsung has been keeping the same screen for some years. And, if something works, why change it. The Samsung Galaxy S9 + maintains the same screen that we saw last year, that is, a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED panel with QHD + resolution and 18.5: 9 format.
Of course, the Always On Display function is also maintained. With this interesting function we can see the calendar or notifications without unlocking the terminal.
Cameras
It is in this section where we will find the most differences between one terminal and another. The great novelty of the Samsung Galaxy S9 + is the incorporation of a dual camera system. A system that combines the advantages of having a double lens with the new dual aperture camera of the Samsung Galaxy S9.
Specifically we have two 12 megapixel lenses. One of them, with a variable aperture that ranges between f / 1.5 and 2.4, adjusts to the situation at any given time, whether it is night, day or if the light is dim. According to Samsung, this system improves the brightness by up to 28% compared to the results of the Galaxy S8 +. The second lens is a telephoto lens with aperture f / 1.5 that allows you to add perspective to photos and play with blurs.
In addition to the new hardware, a number of exciting new features have been included. On the one hand there is the super slow motion, since the S9 + is capable of capturing images at 960 frames per second in HD resolution.
Animated emojis have also been included. In the case of Samsung they are called AR Emojis and they allow detecting up to 100 points of the user's face to imitate their expressions. These images can be sent as videos or GIFs through any application. The result is not as detailed as in the iPhone X, but the system offers up to 18 predefined expressions to transform our gestures.
Another very interesting function is the multi-frame reduction, which manages to capture up to 12 shots at a time to reduce noise in the final photograph by up to 30%.
As for the front camera, we find an 8 megapixel sensor with aperture f / 1.7. Some of us expected that the S9 included a double front camera to finish the game, but it has not been like that.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 + was somewhat more conservative in the photographic section, maintaining the magnificent camera that we saw in the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge.
That is to say, it equips a Dual Pixel sensor with 12 megapixel resolution and f / 1.7 aperture. It also has optical image stabilization and video recording with 4K resolution at 60 fps.
On the front of the S8 + we have an 8 megapixel sensor with f / 1.7 aperture. That is, it is the same camera that we find in the new model.
There were also software extras on the Samsung Galaxy S8 +, such as Bixby Vision or the stickers that we can use directly from the camera application.
Processor and memory
Whenever a terminal update arrives, it is assumed that we will have a processor change. Even more so if we talk about high-end terminals. And Samsung's new flagship is no exception.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 + equips the new Exynos 9810 processor. It is a chip manufactured in 10 nanometers, 64 bit and with 8 cores. Accompanying this powerful processor we have 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. Apparently, we will not have a single storage capacity, with models up to 256 GB. Still, the capacity can be expanded using a Micro SD card of up to 400 GB.
As for the Samsung Galaxy S8 +, it incorporates an Exynos 8895 processor. This processor is manufactured in 10 nanometers and has four cores at 2.3 GHz and another four at 1.7 GHz. Accompanying the processor we have 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage.
Autonomy and connectivity
By maintaining the screen size and resolution, Samsung has also decided to maintain the battery capacity. Thus, both models have 3,500 mAh.
In our in-depth test the Samsung Galaxy S8 + lasted a full day without too much trouble. We understand that the S9 + will have the same autonomy, although we will have to wait for a thorough test to confirm it.
Regarding connectivity, both terminals are equipped with the latest. Both have NFC, USB-C connector, 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0.
Conclusions and price
After raising a tremendous expectation, as almost every year, the new Samsung Galaxy S9 are now official. And, although they bring some news, if we only stay abroad we may know what the differences are with their predecessors.
As we have seen, the design is practically identical. We have a small change that makes the new model slightly lower, but it is almost imperceptible. Perhaps the most important detail in the design of the new model is the relocation of the fingerprint reader. The screen is the same, so in these two sections we will have a tie.
As we have already mentioned, the great news that the Samsung Galaxy S9 + brings come in the form of photography. The new cameras should perform better than the single camera on the Samsung Galaxy S8 + (despite being a great camera). In our first contact we noticed an important improvement at the photographic level, but again we have to wait for a deep analysis.
Also in performance should win the S9 +. First, because the processor is more modern, which usually translates into higher performance. And second, because the new model has 2 GB more RAM than the Samsung Galaxy S8 +.
Finally, in the connectivity and autonomy section we have a clear tie. Both have the same battery and the same connections.
And we finish with the price. The Samsung Galaxy S8 + was launched with an official price of 910 euros. However, we have come to see offers with which to get this model for about 650-700 euros. Even less in some very specific offers. We just have to search well.
The price of the Samsung Galaxy S9 + has not yet been confirmed, but if we listen to rumors it could be very close to 1,000 euros. Is the new model worth buying? The decision practically comes down to the importance you give to the camera.
