Summer can be a good time to buy a high-end terminal. Most models have already been on the market for a few months and their price drops. In addition, we have important shopping days, such as Amazon Prime Day. For all this, and for those who are undecided, we wanted to compare the three most important mobiles of the year. The flagships of Samsung, Huawei and LG face a tough battle. We put the Samsung Galaxy S8 +, the Huawei P10 and the LG G6 face to face. What is the best high-end Android mobile?
Design
Without a doubt we are looking at three of the best designed mobiles on the market. Or at least two of them, because Huawei has been very conservative. Both Samsung and LG have opted for innovation, with a frameless design.
What is most striking about the Samsung Galaxy S8 + is its "infinite" screen. The Koreans have reduced the upper and lower frames to the maximum to take advantage of the entire front. For the rest, we have a design very similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. Curves are once again protagonists, both in front and behind.
On the other hand, the shiny glass finish is maintained on the back. It is a very elegant finish, but one that can be a problem for the cleaning obsessive.
Also on the back we find the fingerprint reader. This has had to be relocated due to the disappearance of the typical Home button of the brand. And the thing is that in the front there is no room for practically anything other than the screen.
The full dimensions of the Galaxy S8 + are 159.5 x 73.4 x 8.1 millimeters. Its weight is an incredible 173 grams. In addition, we must not forget that it is a mobile with IP68 certification. That is, it is resistant to water and dust. As for the colors, we have three options: black, purple and silver. We do not rule out that a pink version of the Galaxy S8 + will arrive shortly.
When we look at the Samsung Galaxy S8 + we see innovation. A bold, modern design. Quite the opposite occurs when we look at the Huawei P10. The Chinese company has decided not to risk and use a well-known design. And be careful, we do not say that it is something criticizable, far from it.
The Huawei P10 incorporates very subtle changes compared to the Huawei P9. The new model offers slightly curved sides and a rear that remains metallic. It is true that the layer of paint on the metal makes the sensation when holding it is different from that of other metal mobiles.
In the back we have an area with a different color from the rest of the shell. This area is protected by Gorilla Glass. This is where the dual camera lenses are housed.
However, the P10 does incorporate a great novelty at the design level. And is that the fingerprint reader is located in the front, under an oval design that recalls, precisely, that of Samsung terminals. Although the big difference is that it is not a physical button, it does not act as a home button. But we can enable it to use it as a navigation button.
The full dimensions of the Huawei P10 are 145.3 x 69.3 x 6.98 millimeters, with a weight of 145 grams. The terminal is available in a full range of colors: green, blue, white, pink, silver, black and gold.
The LG G6 also bets on a trendy design. The new model of the South Korean is also made of aluminum. However, the rear offers a glossy glass finish with an anti-fingerprint coating. In this back part is where the fingerprint reader is located, just below the cameras.
The funny thing is that in the LG G6 the fingerprint reader also works as an on and off button. On the other hand, like the Samsung terminal, the LG G6 is committed to water resistance. Thus, the terminal is IP68 certified.
But if something stands out from the LG G6 is its front. As we said, the upper and lower frames have been reduced to the maximum to place the largest possible screen. Although the design is not as striking as that of the S8 +, it is still one of the most beautiful phones of this year.
The full dimensions of the phone are 148.9 x 71.9 x 7.9 millimeters and its weight is 163 grams. It can be purchased in three colors: white, silver and black.
screen
The screen is another of the great novelties of two of the three contenders. And it is precisely this section that has completely conditioned the design of these terminals.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 + includes a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED panel with WQHD + resolution that occupies almost the entire front of the phone. The screen is curved on both sides and both the upper and lower frames are in a fine line. It also incorporates the 'Always on display' function, with which we will see notifications without unlocking the mobile.
By reducing the top and bottom bezels, the screen is 18: 9 wide. This means that, in certain content, we will have two black stripes at the ends.
The Huawei P10, however, is once again more conservative. We have a display panel IPS 5.1 inch Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. This translates to a screen density of 432 dpi. A screen that looks pretty good, but lags far behind that of its rivals.
This screen offers good colors, a lot of sharpness and an acceptable brightness. It also includes a manual mode with which we can change the color temperature.
The LG G6, however, does surprise with its screen. First for its design, since, as we have said, it has very narrow frames. And second, because we have a panel with 5.7 inch resolution QHD + 2,880 x 1,440 pixels.
As with Samsung, LG has also used an 18: 9 format. With this, it is possible to have a 5.7-inch mobile in the size of a 5.2-inch mobile.
On the other hand, the LG G6 screen boasts of being compatible with HDR images, both in Dolby Vision format and in HDR10 format. This means that we can enjoy the HDR content of the compatible streaming platforms.
Processor, memory and operating system
Taking into account that we are facing the flagships of three of the most important manufacturers, it is logical to think that we will not have power problems with any of the three mobiles. And so it is.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 + equips an Exynos 8895 processor. It is a chip manufactured in 10 nm and has eight cores. In terms of speed, four cores operate at 2.3 GHz and the other four at 1.7 GHz. According to Samsung, the new processor is 20% more powerful and has a GPU 23% more efficient than its predecessor.
Accompanying this processor we find 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. This capacity can be expanded by microSD card.
The Huawei P10 inherits the processor that the Huawei Mate 9 launched. Specifically, we are talking about the Kirin 960. A processor with eight cores, four running at 2.36 GHz and another four running at 1.84 GHz. A Mali G71 GPU is responsible for the graphics.
Accompanying this processor we have 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. We can expand this capacity using a microSD card of up to 256 GB.
For its part, the LG G6 includes a Snapdragon 821 processor. It is a chip with four cores, two working at 2.4 GHz and the other two at 2 GHz. The graphics card (GPU) is an Adreno 530 at 650 MHz. Although some have criticized the choice of this processor, the truth is which is still a very powerful chip.
In your case, this chip goes hand in hand with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. This capacity can also be expanded by using microSD cards of up to 2 TB.
Of course, the three phones that we are comparing have Android 7 Nougat as standard. Also, in none of them we get rid of the respective layers of personalization.

Camera and multimedia
If we have the best designs, the best screens and the most powerful mobiles, the logical thing is to think that we will have the best cameras. And the truth is that none of the three terminals disappoints in this section.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 + has a 12-megapixel Dual Pixel camera and f / 1.7 aperture. In addition, it includes an optical image stabilizer and a fast focus system. The stabilization system extends to video, which we can record in 4K resolution. That is, we have practically the same camera that we saw in the Samsung Galaxy S7.
Where we do find news is on the front. The Samsung Galaxy S8 + has a selfie camera with 8 megapixels of resolution and f / 1.7 aperture. In addition, the company has included some extras in the software, such as labels, effects and stickers.
Huawei, as expected, continues to bet on its collaboration with Leica. The Huawei P10 incorporates a 12 megapixel color sensor with optical image stabilization and f / 2.2 aperture.
In addition, it includes a second sensor, this time monochrome, which has a resolution of 20 megapixels and aperture f / 1.9. The main camera is capable of recording video in 4K resolution.
At the front, the Huawei P10 incorporates an 8 megapixel sensor camera with a fixed focus system.
The LG G6 offers two sensors with 13 megapixels of resolution each. On the one hand we have a wide angle of 125 degrees and aperture f / 2.4. On the other hand, we have a sensor with an aperture f / 1.8 and optical image stabilization.
For the front LG has chosen to incorporate a camera with a 5 megapixel sensor, f / 2.2 aperture and a 100 degree wide angle.
Two terminals stand out in the sound section. On the one hand, the Samsung Galaxy S8 +, which has 32-bit PCM and DSD64 / 128 audio support. On the other hand, the LG G6, which includes a Quad DAC to achieve HiFi sound.
Autonomy
Let's now check how our three contenders are doing drums. The Samsung Galaxy S8 + incorporates a 3,500 milliamp battery. A capacity that may seem small for a mobile with a 6.2-inch screen. However, Samsung has struck a good balance with its smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy S8 + is able to withstand an intensive day of use without problems.
But if we have an emergency, we can use the fast charging system that includes the mobile. This allows us to recover up to 10% charge with just five minutes plugged in.
The Huawei P10 includes a 3,200 milliamp battery. Considering the screen size and the rest of the hardware on the computer, that seems like a good amount. And so we were able to verify it in our in-depth analysis of the terminal. In normal use the P10 lasted until the end of the day without any problem, being able to reach a day and a half.
On the other hand, the Huawei P10 includes ultra fast charging. We can charge the terminal to 100% in just over an hour. Specifically, in 10 minutes we charge a 20% battery.
The LG G6 includes a 3,300-milliamp lithium battery. And the same thing happens to us as with the Galaxy S8 +. A priori it seems little capacity for a mobile with a 5.7-inch screen. However, in our tests, it managed to last all day even playing Pokémon GO from time to time.
In addition, the LG G6 has fast charging technology. To be more specific, it integrates the Quick Charge system in version 3.1. In our review of the LG G6, an hour and 15 minutes was enough to fully charge the battery.
Connectivity
As we have been saying throughout the comparison, we are facing three high-end terminals. That is, all of them will have the latest in connectivity. Or is it not? Let's check it out.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 + has a USB Type-C connection for charging and file transmission. It is also one of the first mobile phones with a Bluetooth 5.0 connection.
It is also faster when it comes to downloading files over WiFi (up to 20%), thanks to its 802.11ac WiFi connectivity and its support for 1024-QAM. Another of the connections that could not be missing is NFC, which facilitates payment through mobile.
Huawei has provided the P10 with several new features to improve the connectivity of the terminal. For example, it includes a WIFI + connection, which means that we can get much more signal on our device. The same happens with 4G +, which allows a faster connection to the mobile network.
Of course, it has dual-band 802.11ac WiFi and MIMO technology, as well as Bluetooth v.4.2. GPS and NFC chip are not missing.
Finally, the LG G6 does not disappoint in this section either. We have USB 3.1 Type-C, support for 4G cat.9 networks, dual-band 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth v.4.2 and an NFC chip.
In short, with none of the three terminals we will have problems to make the most of the different connections.
Conclusions and prices
It is time to draw conclusions. However, it is very difficult to say which of the three mobiles is the best. We can rely on power tests, battery life or even cameras, but in the end the user's taste plays a very important role.
There is no doubt that, in design, both the Samsung Galaxy S8 + and the LG G6 attract more attention with the Huawei P10. Specifically, the Galaxy S8 + is one of the most beautiful phones on the market. Its borderless display and glass design are almost second to none. The mobile looks really modern, as well as being very light in the hand (considering its screen).
On a completely opposite side we have the Huawei P10. The Chinese company has preferred to maintain a continuous design. And, as they say, if something works, why change it?
The design of the Huawei P10 is much more classic. Although the terminal sports a rounded design, the lines are similar to those of its predecessor. It does not have a screen with a curved finish, but instead has side frames. Very fine, yes.
We do see some innovation in the fingerprint reader, located on the front. To all this we must add a very soft finish on the back, with a really nice touch. In short, an elegant mobile that shows that we are facing a premium terminal.
The LG G6, however, falls halfway between the two extremes. While the Galaxy S8 + has a groundbreaking design, the Huawei P10 has a more classic design. Right in the middle is the LG G6.
On the one hand it has a modern part, by reducing the upper and lower frames quite a bit. However, it does not have a screen with curved edges. This takes away some of the "modernism" when it comes to attracting the user's attention.
On the other hand, the back also sports a glass finish. A slightly different finish than the S8 +, a little less shiny perhaps. In short, a premium design that will attract the attention of any user.
Despite all the explanation, as we said, everything will depend on the taste of each user. As we always say, design is something very personal.
Yes we can quantify the technical data. For example, the screen of the Samsung Galaxy S8 + is the most spectacular of the three. First for its size, second for the curves and third for the Super AMOLED technology. And it is not what we say, it is that it has been chosen the best screen of the year.
Of course, the screen of the LG G6 is also quite spectacular. It is capable of playing HDR10 and Dolby Vision content, but it is smaller. Last, in our opinion, is the Huawei P10 screen, much more conservative.
In terms of brute force, in tests the Samsung Galaxy S8 + beats its rivals. Second we have the Huawei P10 and in last position the LG G6. Should this influence our decision? In most cases no. For normal use of a mobile, any of the three will provide us with extraordinary performance. Now, if you are going to play tremendously demanding games, your choice may be the Samsung terminal.
Otherwise, the S8 + and P10 have 64GB of storage, while the LG G6 makes do with 32GB. A misstep for LG if it wants to compete with its rivals.
And if we talk about the software, they all carry Android 7.0 Nougat as standard, something to be thankful for. However, they all also have a layer of personalization. None is excessively exaggerated, although all can be improved. In short, it should not be an argument to highlight one or the other terminal either.
And what about the photographic section? We enter complicated terrain. The first thing to keep in mind is that with all three we will get great photos. From there each model offers advantages and disadvantages.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 + camera offers ultra-fast focus, great brightness (f / 1.7) and 4K resolution video recording.
The dual camera of the Huawei P10 achieves very sharp images, although its results are somewhat worse in low light conditions. In addition, the dual lens allows you to take photos with a bokeh effect.
The third party, the LG G6, focuses on achieving an effect that the others do not have. The standard lens is responsible for photographing close objects, while the wide angle makes it possible to capture much wider images. And the truth is that the results with the wide-angle lens are really good.
Still not clear? Well, neither connectivity nor even autonomy will make you decide. On the first, the three terminals are left over. And as for the battery, the three terminals offer a very similar autonomy.
What may help you decide is the price. And it is that, although in the comparative tab we have put the official prices, the three terminals can be found cheaper.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 + has an official price of 910 euros. However, yesterday we told you how to get the Galaxy S8 + for 700 euros at Amazon.
As for the Huawei P10, its official price is 650 euros. However, just a few days ago we were able to see it in the Worten VAT-free Days for 535 euros.
Finally, the LG G6 has an official price of 750 euros. Many thought that this was going to be the terminal's great handicap. Perhaps that is why it has dropped in price quickly. Without going any further, in the current Red Friday offers of the Media Markt we can get it for 550 euros. Which one do you choose?
