Today the new mobiles of the Samsung S10 range have been put on sale. And the top model is, without a doubt, the Samsung Galaxy S10 +. This has the triple camera system, a double front camera and the largest screen of all. It seems clear that, if you are looking for the best, the S10 + is your model within the new S range. However, you may have doubts about another model that Samsung still has for sale.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 hit the market at the end of last year with very interesting features. Its huge 6.4-inch screen, its exclusive stylus, its dual camera system and its great power seduced users and professionals. But time passes and, although it is still the top of the range of the Note family, its price has dropped considerably.
Which can create a more than reasonable doubt when a user must decide which mobile to buy. Is the latest model worth investing in considering that the Note 9 is priced much more attractively? Let's try to find out by putting the Samsung Galaxy S10 + and the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 face to face.

DESIGN AND DISPLAY
The differences at the design level are very evident. The Samsung Galaxy S10 + sports the new curved Dynamic AMOLED screen with the front camera positioned in two holes in the upper right. It also has a black bottom frame, but it is a few millimeters. Specifically, it is a 6.4-inch panel with Quad HD + resolution and 19: 9 format.
The rear is still glass, although Samsung has released two models with a ceramic back shell. As for the photographic system, it is placed in the central area of the rear and in a horizontal position. And, as you already know, we do not have a fingerprint reader, since it has been placed under the screen.
The full dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy S10 + are 157.6 x 74.1 x 7.8 millimeters, with a weight of 175 grams. At the moment the device is only available in black and white.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has a more classic design, with no notches or holes. So the top and bottom bezels are larger on this model, although Samsung has always tried to make them as narrow as possible.
The rear is also glass and curves at the ends. On the other hand, the arrangement of the cameras is practically identical to that of the new model. The dual system is centrally positioned and horizontally oriented. The big difference is found in the fingerprint reader, which in the Note 9 is located just below the cameras.
Until the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S10 +, the Note 9 was Samsung's model with the largest screen. It has a 6.4-inch Dual Edge Super AMOLED panel and Quad HD + resolution.
The full dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 are 161.9 x 76.4 x 8.8 millimeters, with a weight of 201 grams. In other words, it is quite a bit taller, wider, thicker and heavier than the S10 +.
Photographic set
Changes in the photographic section can also be seen with the naked eye. The Samsung Galaxy S10 + has a triple system on its back, compared to the double system of the Note 9.
This system consists of a 12 megapixel main sensor with Dual Pixel technology and dual aperture of f / 1.5-2.4, phase detection autofocus and optical image stabilizer. To this is added an ultra wide angle lens that shows up to 123 degrees of the scene, and that is mounted on a 16 megapixel sensor with f / 2.2 aperture. Finally, there is a 12 megapixel telephoto lens with f / 2.4 aperture and optical image stabilizer that allows you to apply two optical magnifications.
And if the change in the rear is striking, even more interesting is the front. The S10 + has a dual camera front system. It consists of a 10 megapixel main sensor, f / 1.9 aperture and Dual Pixel autofocus. It is accompanied by a second 8-megapixel sensor focused on detecting the depth of the scene, with an aperture f / 2.2.
Although it came out a few months later, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 inherited the dual camera system from the S9 +. Thus, it has a double 12-megapixel sensor. The main one has the variable aperture system, capable of adjusting its aperture between f / 1.5 and f / 2.4. The second sensor is a telephoto lens that offers an f / 1.5 aperture. This allows you to play with focus and zoom without losing too much quality.
However, Samsung added a scene recognition system to the Note 9. The terminal is capable of identifying up to 20 types of scenes, such as food, skies, mountains or flowers. It is also capable of alerting us if it detects an error in the scene, such as closed eyes or a spot on the camera lens.
As for the front camera, it has an 8 megapixel sensor with f / 1.7 aperture. And of course both have some extra features, like AR Emojis, 4K video recording at 60fps, and the ability to create slo-mo videos at up to 960fps.
Processor and memory
New generation, new processor. The Samsung Galaxy S10 + is equipped with the Exynos 9820 processor. This is accompanied by 8 or 12 GB of RAM, depending on the version. In addition, we also have three storage capacities available: 128 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB. A capacity that, if we see that it is not enough, we can expand with another 512 GB through Micro SD card.
For its part, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 also inherited the processor from the S9 +. So it is equipped with an Exynos 9810 chip. This is accompanied by 6 GB of RAM and a storage capacity that can be 128 GB or 512 GB.
AUTONOMY AND CONNECTIVITY
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 improved one of the big flaws that the S9 + had, autonomy. The Korean manufacturer put a 4,000 milliamp battery in its last terminal in the Note range. In addition, as is usual, it has fast charging and wireless charging.
It seems that Samsung learned its lesson last year and with the Samsung Galaxy S10 + it has not wanted to take a chance. It has placed a 4,100 milliamp battery, which is a more than considerable increase over its predecessor. To this we must add even faster charging, fast wireless charging and also the function of sharing battery with other devices wirelessly.
In terms of connectivity, both models are equipped with Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB Type-C and compatibility with 4G LTE networks. Although it is fair to point out that the Samsung Galaxy S10 + is compatible with 4G networks of up to 2 Gbps and is one of the first mobiles to include the new WiFi 6.
Conclusions and price
So is the Samsung Galaxy S10 + better than the Note 9? Yes. At least in most sections. At the design level, for example, we have a mobile with the same screen size in a more restrained size. However, we can understand that not all users like the solution of the "holes" of the front camera. But that already enters into a very personal assessment of each user.
In the photographic section we have the incorporation of a third sensor that gives us a view with a greater angular width. However, it is true that the main sensors are very similar. More important is the change we have in the front camera, which happens to be double and of much better quality.
Soon we will have our analysis of the last member of the S family, but if it serves as a reference we can say that the Samsung Galaxy S10 + has obtained 109 points in DxOMark. The score on this same page of the Note 9 was 103 points, so we have an improvement but without major changes.
Internally, the processor has changed and the RAM memory has been increased. And our budget allows it, we have a version available with up to 1 TB of internal storage.
One of the most important sections of a high-end mobile is autonomy. In the absence of thoroughly testing the S10 +, we think we could be facing almost a tie. The logical thing is that the Samsung Galaxy S10 + has a slightly higher autonomy, since it incorporates 100 milliamps more than its rival in this comparison. However, it is very possible that this is not noticed on a day-to-day basis.
It is worth remembering that the S-range model has the possibility of charging other devices by reverse charging. In addition, it is fully prepared for the communications of the future thanks to the incorporation of the latest WiFi standard.
We reached the end of the comparison, so we must talk about the price. The Samsung Galaxy S10 + went on sale today, so its price is quite high. It starts at 1,010 euros for the model with 128 GB of storage.
On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 still has an official price of 1,010 euros on the Samsung website. But we already know that we can find it much cheaper. In fact, we saw it yesterday at the eBay Super Weekend for 570 euros. Without resorting to Chinese stores, the usual thing is to find it around 800 euros. So what do you think? Which one do you choose?
