Comparison: samsung galaxy s ii vs samsung galaxy r
The Samsung Galaxy S II and Samsung Galaxy R are two of the latest launches from the Korean house Samsung. They correspond to two of the high-end terminals in this manufacturer's catalog, although their target audiences differ significantly. Arguably, in fact, the Samsung Galaxy R is a lightweight version of the very powerful Samsung Galaxy S II.
Thus, while the Samsung Galaxy S II is designed for the most fervent fans of top-of-the- line mobile telephony, the Samsung Galaxy R could be understood for those users who, wanting to have the best of the best, are perhaps capable of sacrificing some features leaders in favor of winning in other aspects, such as the autonomy of the phone or, why not say it, in a slightly more affordable price.
Design and display
At first glance, both devices are very similar. However, the Samsung Galaxy S II wins in thinness and lightness (8.49 mm and 117 grams endorse it, compared to the 9.55 millimeters and 135 grams of the Samsung Galaxy R). There are reasons to see this difference. The Samsung Galaxy R is finished in metallic materials, heavier and somewhat thicker, compared to the plastic- based solution of the Samsung Galaxy S II, which could appear weaker when accidentally dropped. Actually, this is not the case, since the design of the Samsung Galaxy S II is designed so that, in case it receives a blow, the structure can absorb the force of the impactso that neither the housing nor the apparatus of the device is damaged. Or in the worst case, making the consequences as light as possible.
As for the screen, the Samsung Galaxy R carries a super clear LCD panel 4.2 inch 800 x 480 pixels, which is the same definition as we see in the Galaxy S II, except that in this case it is a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus. For practical purposes, the screen of the Samsung Galaxy S II achieves more saturated colors and much brighter results, although that can take a toll on battery consumption if we set the brightness index to the maximum.
Photo camera
Here the differences become more notable. The Samsung Galaxy S II stands out over the Samsung Galaxy R, as it equips an eight megapixel sensor with an LED flash that also allows us to make videos in FullHD quality at a rate of 30 frames per second. The Samsung Galaxy R, meanwhile, stays in five - megapixel for photos and with a little less video resolution (up to the standard 720p).
Although it is obvious that there is a considerable distance between the two devices in the camera section, the reality is that in both cases the photos and videos that we capture will have a very good quality, always within the range of smartphones.
Processor and memory
At this point we must also highlight points in dissonance. While the Samsung Galaxy S II carries the powerful Samsung Exynos or Samsung Orion processor, with a dual-core architecture and a speed of 1.2 GHz, the Samsung Galaxy R opts for the solution that was chosen for the Samsung Galaxy S II as standard. B, the NVIDIA Tegra 2, also dual-core and with a power of one GHz.
In addition to the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S II goes a bit faster in clock speed, in the tests carried out with this mobile in its Exynos and Tegra 2 versions , the Samsung chip showed significantly better results in terms of power. Nonetheless, the Samsung Galaxy R cannot be said to be a phone that fails at this point.
If we stop to analyze the memory of both phones, the Samsung Galaxy S II wins the hand again. This terminal can be obtained in versions equipped with 16 and 32 GB of internal memory, while the Samsung Galaxy R remains in eight GB of capacity. In any case, as usual, the user of either of these two smartphones has the door open to expanding the memory with the help of microSD cards, as long as they do not exceed 32 GB in capacity.
Connections, multimedia and operating system
With the exception of very specific points, the Samsung Galaxy R and Samsung Galaxy S II are quite similar in this regard. Both equip the most powerful multimedia players on the market, capable of recognizing practically any type of file that we want to see on their screens. You can put it to the test with MKV high definition movies , or videos encoded in DivX, or put playlists in the audio support that you like the most, which you can successfully play on these mobiles.
What's more, as both are compatible with the DLNA wireless multimedia communication system, you don't even need to use the internal memory or microSD cards. Thus, for example, we could watch a movie that we have hosted on the computer on either of these two mobiles, or launch a video recorded with the telephone to the living room television. Of course: all devices must be compatible with the DLNA system.
For the rest, both terminals would share an identical profile in connections (3G, Wi-Fi, GPS with A-GPS, Bluetooth, microUSB 2.0...), if not for a couple of details: the MHL system and the optional NFC in the Samsung Galaxy S II. The first is a way of launching a high definition signal through an HDMI adapter, while the second is used to incorporate a proximity communication function in the terminal, with which we can perform different operations, such as paying with the mobile phone, transferring files or share the audio wirelessly, among other possibilities.
As for the operating system, here there is a total coincidence. Both the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Samsung Galaxy R are mobiles equipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread that present the latest version of Samsung's layer , the TouchWiz UX or 4.0. The management of multitasking is quite similar in the two mobiles, although for obvious reasons the Samsung Galaxy S II reacts with more solvency when we demand more from the system.
