A few minutes ago the official presentation of the Galaxy Note 9 was held. This new model comes to renew most of the features of its predecessor model, the Galaxy Note 8. Some details such as the processor, RAM and cameras have evolved in a way significant. Others, on the contrary, remain in line with the terminal presented in 2017. Does this mean that this new generation has evolved little compared to the previous one? Let's see it below in the comparison between the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 8 to know all their differences.

Design
One of the sections where less differences are found between the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Both terminals are built in glass on the back, and both have aluminum on the sides (AL7000 in the case of Note 9 still more resistant). The size of the two devices has not changed greatly either. And it is that although the screen size of the Galaxy Note 9 has grown 0.1 inches, the best use of the front is made by a phone almost identical in dimensions to its predecessor model. The weight in the case of the Note 9 is 6 grams higher due to its battery.
Design of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9
Where if we find dissimilarities between the two smartphones is in the back. While in the Note 8 we can see that the fingerprint sensor was located right next to the cameras, in the case of the Note 9 we can see that it is located just below. Situation perhaps somewhat more comfortable for the hand.
Design of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8
Another detail that has also changed is the S-Pen, which now has a button located in the middle of it which is intended to perform various tasks, in addition to those typical of previous models.
screen
As in the section on the design of the Galaxy Note, the screen is another point where we barely find a palpable evolution. The two panels are based on Samsung's well-known Super AMOLED technology, and both have the same QHD + resolution.
As for their size, and as we mentioned in the previous section, we find a difference of only 0.1 inches, which can be seen at the top of the terminal. Remarkable is that in the case of the Note 9 screen, it has HDR 10 compatibility to improve image quality.
Photographic set
We come to one of the most interesting sections of both models. And it is that if in the previous ones we did not find great differences, in this one they can be seen "at first glance". Referring to the technical data, we find a 12 megapixel double rear camera with focal apertures f / 1.7 and 2.4 in the case of the Note 8. This applied to taking pictures translates into bright photographs in low light situations and with great definition in environments with natural or ambient light. The video part is not short either, as we can record video up to 4K with 30 fps. Also noteworthy is the possibility of activating optical stabilization in both sensors.
But the camera of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is not short either. In this case, the resolutions are the same, and the focal aperture decreases to f / 1.5 and 2.4 with variable focus on the main sensor. This gives us a sensor in general terms much brighter than in the case of the Note 8 and with more definition when taking daytime photographs. Regarding video recording, we found few differences. The only significant one is the ability to record video in 4K at 60 fps and the ability to record in slow motion up to 960 fps.
Finally, if we go to the front cameras of the two high-end Samsung phones, we find quite similar specifications. Specifically, the Note 8 camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels with f / 1.7 narrow aperture, ideal for bright selfies. The same number of megapixels and focus aperture we have in the Galaxy Note 9.
Autonomy and connectivity
The point where perhaps the Galaxy Note 9 has evolved the most with respect to the Note 8 is that of autonomy. If we remember, last year's Note 8 had a 3300 mAh battery module, a figure that although it may seem sufficient, the truth is that it did not result in a good autonomy of the device. Samsung has taken good note of this (pun intended) and has implemented in the new Note 9 a battery of nothing more and nothing less than 4000 mAh, a figure that according to the company will give us for several hours of play.
Regarding the connectivity section, here we do not find any boast compared to the 2017 model. We have practically the same connections (USB type C, NFC, GPS, headphone jackā¦), however, where if this Galaxy Note has evolved it is in your possibilities with Samsung Dex. This feature of Samsung mobiles allows us to connect our smartphone to an external monitor through a dock called Samsung Dex Pad to transform the graphic environment from mobile to computer. With the new Note 9 we will not need to resort to the aforementioned dock to connect it to a screen: we will only need a common USB type C cable.
Also the S-Pen has been renewed compared to the Note 8 and Note 7 of previous years. Despite the fact that at the hardware level the specifications are practically the same, the new Note 9 stylus has several interesting functions. Some of the most noteworthy are one-click screen recording, remote photographing through the button connected via Bluetooth, and compatibility with third-party applications to perform different actions depending on the environment.
Processor and memory
Again we find few differences in the appearance of the hardware of both terminals. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, the more than known Exynos 8895 accompanied by 6 GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage move all the terminal software, which is based today on Android Oreo under the layer of Samsung UX.
If we refer to the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, we can see that it has a similar sheet. In summary we find an eight-core Exynos 9810 processor along with 6 GB of RAM and two storage capacities of 128 and 512 GB. Beyond the internal storage, where we find the biggest difference is precisely in its processor. In this case, Samsung has decided to increase its maximum frequency to nothing more and nothing less than 2.7 GHz, ideal for playing any game without any problem.
The GPU has also evolved to the new Mali model, the Mali-G72 MP18. Both processors (GPU and CPU) are cooled by a new liquid cooling system from Samsung called Water Carbon Cooling System.
Conclusions
Given all the features of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 compared to the Note 8, it is time to draw conclusions from both terminals. Is the change from one smartphone to another worth it? Clearly not. As we have just seen, the differences between the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 8 are slim. The battery, the possibilities with the S-Pen and Samsung Dex are the most outstanding characteristics of the new terminal of the brand, in addition to the corresponding renovation in processor and internal storage.
Otherwise it is if we are thinking of acquiring a high-end smartphone. And it is that although the news of the Note 9 may seem few, the truth is that it is the best high-end phone today. It was already the Note 8 and now the Note 9 raises the level again. Worth mentioning is the price of the Galaxy Note 9, which in this case remains in line with the previous version (1009 euros for the 128 GB version and 1259 euros for the 512 version).
So, is it worth your purchase if we plan to acquire a high-end mobile? If we can't wait for its price to drop over the next few months, we certainly can. At the end of the day we have the best camera, the best screen, the greatest power and surely one of the best designs today. Special mention to the S-Pen and the AKG headphones included in the terminal box, aspects that undoubtedly improve the whole of the Note 9 in the multimedia aspect.
