This year manufacturers have expanded their catalogs for the mid-range. Samsung has released different models for the A family, among which is the Samsung Galaxy A50. Xiaomi has done the same with several terminals, such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. The two compete directly in an increasingly saturated market, although full of different options so that we can choose which one suits us best.
If we put these two devices face to face, we see that they offer different characteristics. The Galaxy A50 moves like a fish in water in the photographic section, thanks to its triple sensor. It also includes an Exynos 9610 processor and up to 6 GB of RAM, so it is not bad in performance. It also has a fingerprint reader under the screen, one of the great features in telephony of this 2019, and which is beginning to reach the mid-range.
As for the Redmi Note 7, we can say that it shares the same hardware as the Xiaomi Mi A2, one of the company's most acclaimed mid-range phones, but with a 4,000 mAh battery, which allows us to enjoy up to two days of use. If you doubt which one to buy, don't stop reading. Next, we put these two models face to face.

Design and display
The front of the Samsung Galaxy A50 and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 are practically identical. The two arrive with a main panel, almost without frames and a notch in the shape of a drop of water in which the sensor for selfies is hidden. They also feature a slim profile with rounded edges for easy holding. However, the A50 is somewhat thinner and lighter. 7.7 millimeters thick and 166 grams vs 8.1 mm thick and 186 grams of weight of the Note 7.
If we turn them around, there are obvious differences. Although both are built in glass, the Redmi Note 7's frames are made of plastic, while those of the Galaxy A50 arrive in metal, which gives it a more elegant appearance. In addition, the A50 has an almost element-free back, in which there is only room for a triple sensor positioned vertically and the company's seal occupying the central part. For its part, the Redmi Note 7 presents a rear part typical of older phones, with a fingerprint reader in the center and a double sensor in the upper left (also located vertically). There is also the seal of the brand on the bottom.
As far as the screen is concerned, the Galaxy A50 includes a slightly larger one. It is Super AMOLED of 6.4 inches with Full HD + resolution (1,080 × 2,340). The one in the Redmi Note 7 is 6.3-inch LTPS Incell with the same FullHD + resolution and miso ratio: 19.5: 9. We can say that both offer good brightness and viewing angle. The colors are quite clear and natural, so you will not have any problem when playing a Netflix series or watching YouTube videos.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 7
Power and memory
At the performance level, both house quite common processors in the mid-range, although with differences. The Samsung Galaxy A50 has an Exynos 9610, an eight-core chip with four Cortex-A73 running at 2.3 GHz and another four Cortex-A53 running at 1.7 GHz. This set is accompanied by 4 or 6 GB of RAM, as well as 64 or 128 GB for internal storage. For its part, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 offers a somewhat lower performance. Its processor is a Snapdragon 660 (4 x 2.2 GHz Kryo 260 & 4 x 1.8 GHz Kryo 260), which goes hand in hand with a RAM of 3 or 4 GB and a storage capacity of 32 or 64 GB. Either one gives the option of expanding through microSD type cards.
Despite the fact that with the Galaxy A50 we will notice greater fluidity and performance when it comes to moving several applications at the same time or heavier apps, in our tests we found that the Redmi Note 7 also flows without problems. In any case, if you are going to use your mobile relatively a lot and you are one of those who tend to be with WhatsApp at the same time as hunting Pokémon, looking at the statuses on Instagram and taking photos wherever you go to send them through social networks, in that case maybe you feel a little more comfortable with the A50.
Photographic section
The Samsung Galaxy A50 boasts a triple camera, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 double, but that does not mean that it is worse or much less. In fact, it has a 48-megapixel sensor with a 1.8 focal aperture along with a 5-megapixel sensor, which will be in charge of the bokeh photos. It should be noted, of course, that captures are not made by default at such a large size. It will be the user himself who will have to activate the 48 megapixel option through a small icon that will appear at the top, by clicking on the settings menu. In addition, in this mode it will not be possible to use the zoom, but we will not need it, since we will be able to cut the part of the image that interests us without losing almost quality, precisely due to those 48 megapixels.
Night image taken with a Xiaomi Redmi Note 7
During our tests, the Redmi Note 7 performed quite well on a photographic level, especially considering that it is a mid-range model. We get adequate light, in addition to realistic colors and a high level of detail. To all this we must add the Artificial Intelligence included, which provides information to the image, as well as a higher quality. Do not forget to ignore the night mode either, which notably improves night shots, providing more clarity and definition to the image in low light situations. For selfies, a 13-megapixel sensor is hidden in the front notch, which is worse off when compared to the Galaxy A50, which is 25-megapixel.
Entering fully into the photographic section of the Samsung Galaxy A50 we find three cameras on the back, composed of a first 25 megapixel sensor with a wide-angle lens, capable of taking photos with aperture f / 1.7. It is quite sharp in scenes with good natural light, although it lacks a bit in dark situations or at night. This sensor is accompanied by another 8-megapixel sensor, in its case with an ultra-wide-angle lens, capable of portraying 123 degrees, which is very close to the width of vision of any person. Finally, the third sensor has a resolution of 5 megapixels with aperture f / 2.2 and will be in charge of taking the bokeh or depth photos.

Samsung also includes Artificial Intelligence in this model to help the user when capturing their images. Basically, it is about scene recognition, which improves with specific filters specific situations, such as photos of food, animals, sky with clouds… In total we are talking about 20 different situations, which, unlike other rival mobiles, offers very decent results and nothing exaggerated.
Battery and connections
One of the characteristics in which the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and the Samsung Galaxy A50 coincide is in the battery section. The two models equip a 4,000 mAh, so we will have autonomy for about two days with normal use. With normal we understand taking some photos, consulting social networks, browsing, talking on WhatsApp or watching a short video. Of course, while the A50 has a 15W fast charge, the Note 7 includes 18W fast charge.

Also, in the connections they are also very on par. Both have Bluetooth 5.0, LTE 4G, GPS, AGPS and GLONASS, USB type C, FM Radio or 3.5 mm audio jack. Now, while the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 still comes with a physical fingerprint reader (located on the back), the Galaxy A50 has one inside the panel, which crowns it as one of the few mid-ranges that have this feature.
On the other hand, both the Redmi Note 7 and the Galaxy A50 are governed by Android 9 Pie, with different customization layers. The A50 with the company's usual Samsung One UI. The Redmi Note 7 with MIUI 10. We imagine that both will be able to update when the time comes to Android 10 Q.
