Within the mid-range we have a large number of devices, so it can sometimes be quite difficult to choose one model or another. Of the current large telephone manufacturers, Samsung and Xiaomi compete strongly with two terminals that today we want to put face to face. These are the Samsung Galaxy A50 and Xiaomi Mi 9 SE. Both share some important features, such as triple camera, a design with a notch in the shape of a drop of water with a main panel or fingerprint reader under the screen.
However, they differ in important features, with the Galaxy A50 winning in some cases. For example, this equipment has a higher capacity battery, a higher resolution selfie sensor or a somewhat cheaper price. If you are interested in purchasing either of the two, be sure to read our next comparison.

Design and display
Both the Samsung Galaxy A50 and the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE are very similar in design. Both are made of glass with a glossy finish on the back, which makes them very elegant, although you will have to be very careful with fingerprints. In addition, they have a slim profile of 7.7 and 7.45 millimeters, respectively. Turning it around we see a triple sensor located vertically right in the upper left corner, which gives them a very clean look without distracting elements. Only the Samsung logo on the A50 does it slightly, which is located in the central part.
But, without a doubt, the front is the great protagonist of these mobiles. We hardly see the presence of frames, but, yes, a notch in the shape of a drop of water is not missing to accommodate the front camera. In terms of screen size, the A50 comes out ahead with a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED with Full HD + resolution (1,080 × 2,340). The one in the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE is also Super AMOLED, but somewhat smaller: 5.97 inches (2,340 × 1,080 pixels). It should be noted that both include a fingerprint reader under the panel, something that comes in handy to increase security or make payments.
Processor and memory
At the performance level, both are powered by very common processors in the mid-range, and with which we will have no problem when working with current applications or carrying out several tasks at the same time. The Mi 9 SE arrives with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 712, an eight-core chip, which is accompanied by 6 GB of RAM and a storage of 64 or 128 GB (not expandable).
For its part, the Samsung Galaxy A50 houses an Exynos 9610 along with 4 or 6 GB of RAM. We also have 64 or 128 GB of space to choose from, in this case with the possibility of expanding through the use of microSD cards. To expand the capacity of the Mi 9 SE, there will be no choice but to resort to a cloud storage service such as Dropbox or Google Drive.
Photographic section
The Galaxy A50 and Mi 9 SE boast a triple main camera, but with some differences. We can say that the second one has more resolution. The first sensor of the Xioami Mi 9 SE captures photos with a quality of 48 megapixels. The second, responsible for taking zoom photos, is 8 megapixels. These are accompanied by a third 13 megapixel wide-angle sensor. The front camera stays at 20 megapixels.
The triple camera of the Samsung Galaxy A50 is composed of a 25 megapixel sensor and f / 1.7 aperture with autofocus, a second 8 megapixel wide-angle sensor with f / 2.2 aperture, as well as a third 5 megapixel sensor with f / 2.2 aperture with different functions. Among them, achieving images with a selective focus that you can modify once the photo has been captured or detect the depth. For selfies we can use a secondary sensor of 25 megapixels, hidden in the front notch.
We cannot give information on the quality of the captures obtained with the Mi 9 SE, but in our tests the Galaxy A50 performed adequately, obtaining images with a good level of brightness, saturation and natural colors. As for selfies, it is true that the end results are not high-end, but with good lighting and a little patience, it is possible to get quite decent portraits.
Battery and connections
One of the sections that is most often looked at when buying a new mobile is the battery. In this case, the Samsung Galaxy A50 is the winner thanks to a 4,000 mAh with 15W fast charge. The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE equips one with less amperage, which will give us a lower autonomy: 3,070 mAh with 18W fast charge. In our tests with the A50 we found that the battery is more than enough to make intensive use without problems for a whole day.
For connections we have a large bouquet in both cases: USB type C, NFC, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0.
Price and availability
The two mobiles are already available to buy in Spain. The Samsung Galaxy A50 is priced at 300 euros in specialized stores or through the manufacturer's website. For its part, the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE costs 350 euros on the official website of the company.
