A few minutes ago the new OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro were presented. For the first time, the Asian company presents two models to the market with a clear difference between one and the other. And it is that while the OnePlus 7 opts for a design very similar to that of the OnePlus 6T, the technical characteristics of the high-end of OnePlus are not far from those of the OnePlus 7 Pro, whose main differential point comes from the design, the screen and the cameras. Are these the only differences between the OnePlus 7 Pro and the OnePlus 7? Find out in our comparison of the OnePlus 7 Pro vs OnePlus 7.
OnePlus 7 Pro vs OnePlus 7 comparison sheet
Design
The design is perhaps one of the aspects where both terminals differ the most. Starting with size, the OnePlus 7 Pro is generally a heavier and larger device than the OnePlus 7, with a height that is 0.5 centimeters higher than that of the base model and a weight difference of more than 20 grams, even exceeding the barrier of 200 grams.
Regarding the design of the OnePlus 7, few differences are found with respect to the OnePlus 6T. In fact, both terminals base their design on the same body, with the same construction materials and dimensions.
Returning to the Pro model, the main difference from the base model is the curvature of the screen, being flat on the OnePlus 7, and the folding system of the front camera. This system is based on a retractable mechanism that is activated when making use of the front camera, and its greatest impact on the design of the OnePlus 7 Pro is based on the increase in the ratio of front surface used, being clearly superior than the OnePlus 7.
The OnePlus 7, meanwhile, opts for a notch in the shape of a drop of water. In terms of construction materials, both have glass on the back and metal on the sides. They also integrate the same fingerprint unlocking system, as well as the same stereo sound system based on the traditional Dolby Atmos.
screen
The screen is another aspect where OnePlus has decided to differentiate its base model with respect to the top-of-the-range model.
In the case of the Pro model, we find a 6.67-inch screen with Quad HD + resolution, Fluid AMOLED technology and a frequency of 90 Hz. As for the base model of OnePlus, it bases its screen on a 6.4-inch panel with Full HD + resolution, 60 Hz frequency and Optic technology.
Beyond the size and resolution of the panel, the main difference between the OnePlus 7 vs OnePlus 7 Pro comes from the frequency of the screen. Thanks to the 90 Hz screen of the 7 Pro, the system, along with applications and games, will run much more smoothly with a higher refresh rate. Also the sharpness of the screen will be affected, having a much higher resolution than that of the OnePlus 7 and a more dilated number of pixels per inch.
Photographic section
We finally arrive at one of the most interesting sections of the comparison between the OnePlus 7 Pro and the OnePlus 7. For the first time, the Chinese firm has introduced a retractable camera system for the front camera and three sensors on the back. as a starting point for the OnePlus 7 Pro.
Specifically, the vitaminized model has three sensors of 48, 8 and 16 megapixels with telephoto and wide-angle lenses of 117º whose focal aperture is set at f / 1.7 for the main sensor and f / 2.5 and f / 2.2 for the secondary sensors and tertiary. As for the front camera, this is based on a 16 megapixel Sony IMX471 sensor and f / 2.0 focal aperture.
Moving to the OnePlus 7, the phone bases its main sensor on the same Sony IMX586 sensor as the OnePlus 7 Pro, with 48 megapixels of resolution and f / 1.7 aperture. It is in the second sensor where we find the main difference, with a 5 megapixel telephoto lens and focal aperture f / 2.4.
The differences between one and the other beyond the main sensor go hand in hand with versatility. Thanks to the greater number of lenses that the OnePlus 7 Pro integrates, we can enjoy a wider range of possibilities, which is defined by photographs with a greater degree of aperture thanks to the 7 Pro's wide-angle lens and images of distant bodies with greater definition thanks to the device's 3x optical zoom.
The same thing that happens with the main rear camera is replicated in the case of the front camera. And is that against all odds , the OnePlus 7 has exactly the same front camera as the OnePlus 7 Pro. In summary, we find two 16 megapixel IMX471 sensors with f / 2.0 focal aperture in both cases and optical stabilization in both the OnePlus 7 Pro and the OnePlus 7.
Processor and memory
Assuming that both terminals have the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and the same amount of internal storage (128 and 256 GB), the only difference is found in the RAM.
And is that while the OnePlus 7 Pro bases its RAM configuration on 6, 8 and 12 GB modules, the OnePlus 7 opts for the same 6 and 8 GB configuration of the OnePlus 6T. This is not to say that performance is the same in both cases. Thanks to the 90 Hz screen of the Pro model, the feeling of fluidity will be much greater in the case of the vitaminized version.
Finally, it should be noted the type of memory used in the internal storage, based on the new UFS 3.0 standard that to date no mobile phone integrates. This will affect aspects such as system speed, handling of large files and installation and management of applications.
Autonomy and connections
If in the processor and memory section we find few differences, the picture in terms of autonomy and connections is very similar.
Because the two phones have an identical processor , both have exactly the same connectivity. Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi compatible with all bands, NFC, dual GPS and USB type C compatible with the 3.1 standard, which allows, among other things, to connect external monitors to launch the image as a portable computer.
As for the autonomy section, the differences in terms of battery capacity give the OnePlus 7 Pro as the clear winner, with a 4,000 mAh module compared to the 3,700 mAh of the OnePlus 7.
Practice tells us that the numbers in a real user experience will be very similar, having a screen with a higher resolution and a higher refresh rate. Where we do find a clear difference is in the charging system, with 5V and 6A in the case of the OnePlus 7 Pro and 5V and 4A in the case of the OnePlus 7. According to OnePlus, the Warp Charge system of the Pro model is capable of charging 50% of the mobile in just 20 minutes. The standard variant obtains, for its part, the same numbers as the OnePlus 6T as it is based on the same Dash Charge system.
Conclusions
After seeing the main differences between the OnePlus 7 Pro vs OnePlus 7, it's time to draw conclusions, which are influenced, in part, by the price. The difference in price between one and the other in the most basic model with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage is exactly 160 euros (559 euros for the OnePlus 7 versus 719 for the OnePlus 7 Pro). Is the vitaminized model worth it compared to the OnePlus 7? Our answer is no.
The only significant differences between one mobile and another are found in the screen and the camera. Although aspects such as the design, the charging system or the battery may seem, a priori, superior in the case of the Pro model, from Tuexperto.com we do not believe that it is worth spending those 160 euros more. After all, the two have identical hardware, and aspects such as the final quality of the photographs or the autonomy do not differ slightly between one model and another.
