Design
2018 has been the year of notch phones, and this time around neither of the two high-end Chinese phones are spared. In both devices we find very similar designs, at least in regard to the front.
OnePlus 6T design.
In short, we find a design based on very thin side, top and bottom frames. The only difference between these comes from the hand of the notch, which is significantly smaller in the case of the OnePlus 6T. Thanks to this, we get an even higher screen ratio, although the OnePlus terminal is 2 millimeters higher and 1 wider (the weight is identical). To this must be added that the Huawei P20 Pro has a slightly wider lower frame due to the implementation of a physical fingerprint sensor (the 6T is located under the screen panel itself).
Design of the Huawei P20 Pro.
Regarding the rear, here we do find some differences. In the OnePlus 6T, for example, we find a central camera arrangement. The Huawei P20 Pro, on the other hand, opts for a placement on the left side of the equipment.
screen
The screen is one of the aspects where we find the most similarities between these two devices. The reason for this is due to the use of the same technology and the same resolution: AMOLED and Full HD +. What differences are there between one and the other then? Simple: the size and the ratio.
While in the OnePlus 6T we find a screen of 6.41 inches in size and a ratio of 19.5: 9, in the Huawei P20 Pro the size is reduced to 6.1 inches and 18.7: 9. In practice, this means that Huawei's terminal is a little wider than OnePlus's and somewhat lower in height.
In the rest of the aspects of the panel we do not expect to find great technical differences, beyond the viewing angles or the brightness level. It should be noted that the OnePlus 6T screen includes a fingerprint sensor under the panel, although in our tests it has not been as efficient as we expected. The sensor of the Huawei P20 Pro has turned out to be fast and effective, although this is physical.
Photographic set
We finally come to one of the sections that most interest us in these two devices: the camera. And it is that if in previous aspects the differences were not so notable, in the photographic section the dissimilarities are remarkable.
Referring to the technical data, we find two cameras of 16 and 20 megapixels with focal aperture f / 1.7 in the case of the 6T and three cameras of 40, 20 and 8 megapixels with aperture f / 1.8, f / 1.6 and f / 2.4 and RGB, monochrome and telephoto lenses in the P20 Pro. Translated into Spanish it means that with the Huawei P20 Pro camera we will obtain not only higher quality, but also greater variety in terms of types of scenes (black and white photographs, photographs with optical zoom and portrait mode photos).
The OnePlus 6T, on the other hand, stands out for having more luminosity in its lenses. However, the tests have shown us that the photographs at night are significantly better in the case of the P20 Pro (you can see the review on the respective websites of OnePlus and Huawei P20 Pro OnePlus and Tuexpertomóvil). After all, it is one of the best camera phones of 2018.
And what about the front camera? The technical data tells us that the P20 Pro is the best of the two, as we find a 24 megapixel sensor with f / 2.0 aperture. The same focus aperture is found in the OnePlus 6T camera, although with 16 megapixels. Same luminosity at night although greater definition during the day in the case of the Huawei mobile.
Autonomy and connectivity
In the section on autonomy and connectivity, as with the camera, we find serious differences.
Starting with autonomy, in the OnePlus 6T and the Huawei P20 Pro we find two batteries of 3,700 and 4,000 mAh respectively. In this regard, the Huawei mobile is far superior, not only because of its larger battery, but also because of the smaller size of the screen, although this depends on how we use the terminal. Regarding charging, practically both have the best fast charging technology today.
If we continue with connectivity, the differences between these two phones remain. And it is that although the two terminals have practically the same connection, in both we find some shortcomings. On the one hand, it should be noted that neither the 6T nor the P20 Pro have a headphone jack: they both have a single USB type C input. This USB input is more advanced in the P20 Pro than in the 6T, since It has 3.0 technology, which allows us to turn the mobile into a portable computer through a simple USB cable.
Last but not least, the OnePlus 6T's Bluetooth technology is based on version 5.0. The P20 Pro stays at version 4.2, which greatly limits its speed and connectivity functions.
Processor and memory
If this year's high-end range stands out for something, it's for climbing the power ladder one notch higher. In the two devices we find similar configurations.
On the one hand, the eight-core Snapdragon 845 accompanied by 6 and 8 GB of memory and 128 and 256 GB is what we find in the OnePlus 6T. In the Huawei P20 Pro, on the other hand, we find the Kirin 970 octacore along with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Despite the fact that the two devices have a fairly similar specification sheet, the OnePlus mobile is the one that takes the cake in performance, not only for hardware, but also for software (OxygenOS 9.0 vs EMUI 9.0). The OnePlus 6 was already one of the most fluid mobiles of this year, and the 6T repeats this same title, with one of the best Android experiences.
With regard to RAM and internal storage, in both devices we have the same capacity in the base version. In this sense we will not notice any difference, either by using multitasking or by installing applications of all kinds.
Conclusions
We have just seen all the key points of these two devices, it is time to draw conclusions. Which mobile is better and which one are we left with? As we always say in these cases, we must assess which aspects are most relevant. If the battery, the size of the device or its photography section are important aspects for us, then the Huawei P20 Pro is our device.
In the event that we prioritize aspects such as design, performance, the implementation of an almost pure Android version or the on-screen fingerprint sensor, it will be the OnePlus 6T that best meets our expectations. To this we must add the price factor, which in both cases today is similar. Both the OnePlus and the Huawei can currently be purchased for a value around 600 euros (the P20 Pro for something more), although the OnePlus 6T in general terms is cheaper in its base version of 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. For the price of the P20 Pro we can get the most powerful version of the OnePlus 6T, with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.
