The iPhone XS and XS Max were presented last week. We have already seen all its characteristics, as well as the price in the different telephone companies. Of the three smartphones presented by Apple, surely the XS is the most interesting in the eyes of potential buyers of the brand. In front of it, it has a good number of Android phones. Perhaps the Huawei P20 Pro is the maximum exponent of Android mobile this year, both by specifications and by design and of course, camera (you can see our analysis by clicking here). Today we will face both smartphones in a comparison between iPhone XS vs Huawei P20 Pro, the two best high-end phones of 2018.

Design
If 2018 is going to be remembered for something, it is for the number of smartphones with the same design, and in the case of the iPhone XS and the Huawei P20 Pro it would not be less. Both have practically the same design line: notch at the front and very reduced frames. Also the construction is similar: both are made of glass. The only differences are found in the fingerprint sensor on the front and, of course, the rear, as the placement of the cameras is different, mainly due to the integration of a third sensor in the P20 Pro.
IPhone XS design.
The rest of the differences come from the hand of the color and the dimensions (the Huawei P20 Pro is taller, wider and heavier due to its larger screen size and battery). Unsurprisingly, neither of them supports expansion via SD cards and they don't have a headphone jack connection either.
Design of the Huawei P20 Pro.
The use of the screen is higher in the case of the iPhone XS due to its smaller frames, although Apple has not provided official data.
screen
In the section of the screen we do not find excessive changes. Technically we find two panels with OLED technology and with similar resolutions: FullHD +. In the case of the iPhone XS we find a somewhat higher resolution and therefore, with a greater number of pixels. It is in the size where we find the main differences between the two devices.
Specifically, we find a 5.8-inch screen on the iPhone XS and a 6.1-inch screen. The quality of the panel, despite being very similar technically, is predictably better in the case of the iPhone XS. Unsurprisingly, the two panels support HDR content and HD playback from platforms like Netlifx.
Photographic set
If in the previous sections we found great differences, in the section of the cameras where we find dissimilarities. The iPhone XS, for example, has a double camera with 12 megapixels each sensor and focal aperture f / 1.8 and f / 2.4. Despite having visible improvements in software, such as the variable portrait mode or the improvement of Artificial Intelligence, it is practically the same camera as the iPhone X. Of course, it can record in 4K resolution at 30 and 60 FPS, being today one of the few mobiles with this possibility.
It is the turn of the Huawei P20 Pro. Today it is the best exponent in mobile photography. In technical data we find three cameras with RGB sensors, monochrome (black and white photos) and telephoto lens of 40, 20 and 8 megapixels and focal aperture f / 1.8, f / 1.6 and f / 2.4. It stands out from this a hybrid zoom capable of reaching a maximum 10x magnification without losing quality when using optical and digital zoom at the same time. It is also capable of capturing photos at night significantly brighter than the iPhone XS due to its larger focus aperture. Video recording stays in 4K at 30 FPS.
Last but not least. the front cameras, like the rear ones, also have big differences. In more detail, we find a 7 megapixel sensor and f / 2.2 focal aperture in the case of the iPhone XS and 24 megapixels and f / 2.0 focal aperture. Translated into reality we find much better defined photographs in the case of the P20 Pro, as well as brighter. Both cameras have portrait mode, although the superiority of the Apple phone is predictable due to its AI system. Also worth noting is the iPhone's hardware facial unlocking system, which is more reliable than the Huawei P20 Pro.
Autonomy and connectivity
Another of the sections where we find more differences, not so much in connectivity, but rather in autonomy. And is that we find a battery of only 2,658 mAh in the case of the Apple model. That of the P20 Pro amounts to nothing more and nothing less than 4,000 mAh. The results in the case of the Huawei mobile are expected to be significantly higher, although the management of the autonomy of iOS should be highlighted. Of course, both phones have fast charging, although the XS does not have a charger with such charging technology as standard. The good thing is that it supports wireless charging, unlike the Huawei P20 Pro.
Given the differences between the autonomy section, it is time to analyze the connectivity of both devices. As we mentioned earlier, the differences here are minimal. Both have 4G and NFC (the iPhone can use it while it is off), although the P20 Pro has Dual SIM technology. The XS, on the other hand, has Bluetooth version 5.0. The phone of the Chinese brand has version 4.2. Special mention to the infrared sensor included in the Huawei Pro model, thanks to which we can change the channel on television, among other electronic devices. The capabilities of its USB type C connection also deserve a special mention, since it allows us to connect the mobile to an external monitor to perform the functions of a personal computer.
Processor and memory
We arrived at surely the most interesting section of all, with the permission of the cameras. In this case we find totally different specifications from each other. The Apple phone features a six-core processor called the Apple A12 Bionic with 7-nanometer-based manufacturing technology. The Kirin 970 of the Huawei P20 Pro, unlike Apple's processor, has eight cores and 10 nanometers. If we translate it into reality, we find a much more powerful processor in the case of the Apple model, although in phone data the Huawei processor is superior. Also the energy efficiency is better due to its manufacture in fewer nanometers, as well as the performance in games, which historically has always been superior in iPhone. Both have an NPU module oriented to the Artificial Intelligence processor, although in the case of the iPhone XS it is capable of performing 5 trillion operations per second.
Regarding the RAM of the two phones, 4 and 6 GB, we find ourselves in the iPhone and the P20 respectively. The internal storage is also different, since in the case of the American one we find 64, 256 and 512 GB and in the Chinese one with 128 GB. Neither of the two supports expansion through microSD cards, as is customary in both brands.
Conclusions
We have just seen all the differential points of the iPhone XS vs Huawei P20 Pro and we have to draw conclusions. Which mobile is better of the two? Like everything in life, it depends on what we are looking for. If the camera or autonomy are essential aspects for you, the Huawei mobile is the best choice. This does not mean that the iPhone XS has a bad autonomy or a poor quality camera, in fact quite the opposite. In the case that the design, the screen or the performance are essential aspects, then the best option will be the Apple mobile. To this we must add that the theoretical price difference today amounts to almost more than double.
And is that while the price of the iPhone starts at 1.1159 euros in its most basic version of 64 GB, in the case of the Huawei P20 Pro we can enchant it for just over 600 euros in the 128 GB version. Be that as it may, in both cases we find the best of the best of this year 2018. It is necessary to assess which technical aspects are most important to us, in addition to the software, which has great differences in performance, quality of applications and interaction possibilities.
