We are going to place, face to face, two of the most anticipated mid-range terminals of this 2019. On the one hand we have the very recent Huawei P30 Lite, which has among its best assets the triple photographic sensor; on the other, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, which if something stands out is for its huge 4,000 mAh battery and a main camera capable of displaying images with 48 megapixels.

Design and exterior appearance
Interestingly, both terminals have a fairly similar design, with rounded edges and an infinity screen with a drop-shaped notch. With respect to the Huawei P30 Lite we have a slightly smaller screen of 6.15 inches compared to that of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 that has a size of 6.3 inches. A difference that is barely perceptible and that will not affect your purchase. Both have IPS LCD technology. As for the infinity screen, the Huawei P30 Lite wins by a landslide, by covering 84.2% of the front, compared to 81.4% of the Redmi Note 7. And, if we look at it, the lower edge of the Redmi is considerably more prominent than that of the P30 Lite.
As for the back, it is curious that both terminals choose to incorporate gradient blue, built in glass. The only difference in materials between the two terminals are the aluminum edges of the P30 Lite compared to the plastic ones of the Note 7, one of the aspects in which we see those almost 200 euros of difference. In addition, the difference in weight between both terminals is noticeable: if in the P30 Lite we have a very light terminal of just 160 grams with the Redmi Note 7 we go to 186 grams. The battery is to blame for this, quite likely.

If you prefer a higher screen ratio and better construction materials, the Huawei P30 Lite is your mobile. If you prefer to save, the Redmi Note 7 is the one you should buy.
Triple camera vs two combo
In another aspect in which we can appreciate the difference in price between the two phones compared is in the photograph. First we go with the Huawei P30 Lite that, without wanting to fall behind its older brothers, carries a triple photographic sensor formed by a 24 megapixel main sensor and f / 1.8 wide-angle aperture; 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle secondary sensor and finally a 2-megapixel depth sensor for portrait mode. It also has Artificial Intelligence to detect up to 22 different scenes and thus offer the best image in each case.
With respect to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 things change. We have a real 12 megapixel dual sensor although with a curious novelty: it can offer images up to 48 megapixels. This is because the Xiaomi terminal presents a sensor with Samsung Isocell S5KGM1 technology that fuses 4 pixels into 1 allowing the image to have the desired 48 megapixels.
Both terminals use Artificial Intelligence so that the camera automatically detects a scene and applies the changes that best suit the image so that it gives a sharper, more realistic and more attractive result.
And the selfie camera section ? Well here the Huawei P30 Lite is also the clear winner. We find a 32-megapixel front sensor and f / 2.0 focal aperture compared to the 13-megapixel sensor and f / 2.2 focal aperture of the Redmi Note 7
Victor
Again, the Huawei P30 Lite is the clear winner in this section, although we must keep, as always, in mind that we will be paying more than 200 euros for this terminal. Sacrificing the photographic section for the savings of buying a Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is something that the user himself must value.
We look inside both terminals
We now go to one of the most important sections in the purchase of any mobile: what we have inside so that the beast can process, open, close and, ultimately, start the operation of the phone so that the user can have access to him on a day-to-day basis. In this section, both terminals are quite balanced. In fact, Huawei's Kirin 770 processor can be considered the mid-range answer to the Snapdragon 660 carried by the Xiaomi terminal.
According to tests carried out, Huawei's processor is at the level of the Snapdragon in terms of CPU but lacks in aspects such as Artificial Intelligence, which both terminals use in the photographic section, and in the GPU, an essential section for video games and applications with demanding graphics.
In the RAM section we do see notable changes. In the Huawei P30 Lite we start with 6 GB of RAM while in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 we have two modes, 32 and 64 GB. The same happens in the storage: while in the Huawei terminal we have 128 GB of space (plus 512 if we insert a microSD card) in the Xiaomi we start from 32 GB and go up to 64 GB in the 200 euro model.
Victor
This time we have to give the award to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. We have taken into account the price of both and that the processor that we see in each of the terminals is quite similar in power and performance.
And what about the battery and operating system?
The Huawei P30 Lite shows us a 3,340 mAh battery, a not inconsiderable figure for a mid-range. The 'problem' comes when we face it directly with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. And the brand is used to mounting huge capacity batteries in its cheapest terminals. In this section the rest of the brands have it really difficult. For 180 euros we can take home a mobile with 4,000 mAh battery.
Victor
In the autonomy section we see how the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 takes the cat to the water.
In relation to the operating system that both carry, we are talking about a tie. Both, and in a very logical and correct way, have seen fit to launch their respective terminals with Android 9 Pie, a version of the operating system that gets along very well with the Artificial Intelligence technology that both incorporate. What changes between the two terminals, and this already goes with the taste, is the personalization layer. Huawei has its own, called EMUI, which is already in version 9. On the contrary, Xiaomi calls its personalization layer MIUI, which is already in version 10. It is curious that both layers are quite similar in design, interface and usability. Those who come from pure Android will have to get used to a new launcher if they buy some of these terminals.
Victor
In this section there is no clear winner, everything will depend on the tastes of each user.
And in the section on connectivity?
Here we also see differences between one terminal and another that can tip the balance at the time of purchase. The Huawei P30 Lite has NFC connectivity, so if it is essential for you to be able to pay with your mobile, you can do it, as happened in the previous Huawei P20 Lite. However, the same does not happen with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 that does not bring NFC with it although it does have FM Radio. So if you can't go through without paying with your mobile, the Huawei P30 Lite is your terminal.
Among the rest of the specifications there are hardly any differences, beyond the Bluetooth 5.0 in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 versus the 4.2 version of the Huawei P30 Lite. For real purposes, the user will not perceive notable differences between these two versions of Bluetooth although, of course, it will always be preferred to have the most up-to-date in our terminals.
Other differences that we see is the one corresponding to facial unlocking. The Huawei P30 Lite carries it as standard, while in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 we will have to activate it by changing the region of the system and its operation is not fast enough to use it to the detriment of the fingerprint sensor, this time it is quite efficient.
Victor
Here we have a clear winner: the Huawei P30 Lite, having an NFC connection to pay without taking out the wallet.
Last conclusions
It all depends on the user. If it is worth paying 200 euros more for a triple camera, NFC connection and more screen ratio, the Huawei P30 Lite is your terminal. However, if you prefer to save those 200 euros more by sacrificing camera, screen and NFC for more battery, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is the purchase you should make.
