The Xiaomi Mi A3 has already been officially presented. It does so for a price that starts at 249 euros, a price that, compared to other competing models, places the terminal in a very complex market niche. At the front we find models like the Huawei P30 Lite, a terminal that despite having been launched for no less than 349 euros, we can find it for 280 euros in stores such as Amazon or eBay. Are you thinking of buying any of these terminals? Discover all its differences in our comparison between the Huawei P30 Lite vs Xiaomi Mi A3.

Design

Few are the differences that we find in the design of the two terminals. Both have a body made of metal and glass, and both have a notch in the shape of a drop of water in the upper frame of the screen. Screen whose difference in size is negligible, 6.15 inches in the P30 Lite and 6.09 in the case of the Mi A3.

If we move to the rear, the two devices bear a similarity that is broken only by the integration of a physical fingerprint sensor in the case of the Huawei P30 Lite. The Xiaomi Mi A3, for its part, opts for a sensor that is located below the screen, which will significantly interfere with the recognition times, as well as the reliability when placing the finger on it.

Huawei P30 Lite

The differences are non-existent if we refer to the rest of the design sections. Both have a very even range of colors, and the size in both height and width is similar, with only 0.10 centimeters difference in both cases. Where we do find a clear difference is in weight and thickness, thanks, in part, to the integration of a 4,030 mAh battery in the case of the Mi A3. We are talking about a difference of 14 grams and one centimeter.

screen

We come to one of the most controversial sections, at least as far as the Xiaomi Mi A3 is concerned. A Mi A3 that uses a 6.09-inch AMOLED screen under a Pentile matrix and HD + resolution. Faced with the 6.15-inch IPS LCD panel and Full HD + resolution of the Huawei P30 Lite, the screen of the Mi A3 is clearly below the latter.

The integration of a Pentile matrix causes aspects such as the representation of the colors, the maximum brightness and its durability over time to decline significantly if we compare them with those of the IPS screen of the P30 Lite. Another aspect that helps make this difference even more has to do with the density of pixels per inch, an aspect that depends on the resolution of the panel.

In technical data, we find a difference of no less than 129 dpi (286 dpi for the Mi A3 compared to 415 dpi for the P30 Lite), which will have a notable impact on the definition of images and the reproduction of multimedia content.

Processor and memory

Xiaomi has decided, like Huawei, to integrate a processor presented throughout 2018. In the case of the Mi A3, we find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665, a model traced to the 660 of the Mi A2 whose only difference is in efficiency energy, which should affect the final consumption of the device when making use of its functions.

For the rest, the terminal uses 4 GB of RAM and 64 and 128 GB of internal storage under the UFS 2.1 protocol. The latter is also expandable with micro SD cards up to 256 GB.

And what about the Huawei P30 Lite? The model of the Chinese firm opts for an in-house processor; Specifically the Kirin 710 with 4 GB of RAM and a single version of 128 GB of internal storage, expandable up to 512 GB. Android 9 Pie under EMUI 9.1 is the version that we find in the Huawei model and whose performance is one notch below Android One, the program that runs under the Xiaomi Mi A3.

This difference in performance is also marked by more advanced storage technology (UFS 2.1 vs eMMC 5.1), a more solvent processor and more capable graphics, which will undoubtedly end up having an impact on the experience of use in games and the system.

Photographic section

The triple camera reaches the mid-range, and in this case we start from two very similar concepts, having a series of very similar lenses and sensors.

The Xiaomi Mi A3, for example, has three 48, 8 and 2 mega-pixel cameras with wide-angle and “depth” lenses in the two secondary cameras and a Samsung S5KGM1 sensor in the case of the 48-megapixel camera. The focal aperture of the main sensor is f / 1.8, and the opening angle of the wide-angle lens is no less than 118º.

As for the Huawei P30 Lite, it uses three cameras of 24, 8 and 2 megapixels with the same lens distribution as the Mi A3. Like the latter, we find a focal aperture f / 1.8 on the main sensor, and the aperture angle reaches up to 120º.

In technical data, the differences are practically negligible, beyond the resolution of the main sensor. Our experience, however, tends to give us better results in cameras with Qualcomm processors thanks to image processing. Processing that is benefited by the 48 megapixel sensor of the Mi A3, a sensor that we have already been able to test on other mobile phones such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7.

We find a very similar panorama in the front cameras. In technical data, in fact, we find the same specifications: 32 megapixels of resolution and focal aperture f / 2.0. The results, in the absence of testing both cameras in detail, should show us little difference between them.

Connectivity and autonomy

The integration of two different signature processors makes the differences between the Huawei P30 Lite vs Xiaomi Mi A3 even more remarkable.

In general, the Mi A3 has a more complete connectivity, with connections such as Bluetooth 5.0, dual-band WiFi and an infrared sensor for remote control functions. The P30 Lite, meanwhile, opts for Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi a / c and NFC, the technology used in mobile payments and data transfer.

In the autonomy section, the differences are even more notable than those found in the connectivity section. In technical data, the difference is 690 mAh theoretical (3,340 mAh of the Huawei P30 Lite compared to 4,030 mAh of the Mi A3). Added to this is the integration of a more efficient processor and a screen with lower energy consumption, which in practice translates into significantly greater autonomy. Superiority that is also transferred to fast charging technology, with shorter charging times in the case of the Mi A3 thanks to the 18 W it supports.

Conclusions

After seeing the main differences between the Xiaomi Mi A3 vs Huawei P30 Lite, it is time to draw conclusions, which largely depend on the price. Today, the difference in stores like Amazon is only 40 euros, which can tip the balance towards the Mi A3 for those users with a limited budget. Our opinion, however, tips the balance towards the side of the P30 Lite for aspects such as the screen, the fingerprint sensor or the incorporation of NFC for mobile payments.

The integration of a panel with AMOLED technology and a Pentile matrix makes Tuexperto.com completely discourage the purchase of the Xiaomi Mi A3. Although the terminal has a more complete camera section, a somewhat more solvent performance and a significantly higher autonomy, models like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 seem more interesting than the Mi A3.
