The Huawei P30 Lite has already been officially presented in Spain. This was announced by Huawei yesterday, confirming both the price of the terminal and its availability throughout the peninsula. In the same price range we find the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, a high mid-range mobile whose differences with the Xiaomi Mi 9 can be counted on the fingers of one hand, as we saw in the comparison of the Xiaomi Mi 9 vs. Xiaomi Mi 9 SE. Now it is the turn of the two main bets of the Chinese marches for the mid-range of this year, Huawei P30 Lite vs Xiaomi Mi 9 SE.
Comparative sheet
Design
This year most manufacturers have decided to opt for a very similar design in both the mid-range and the high-range; It was not going to be less in the case of the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE vs Huawei P30 Lite.
In the Huawei model we find a body made of glass and metal whose size reaches 15.2 centimeters high, 7.2 wide and only 0.74 thick. The weight is only 159 grams, not crazy if we consider that it has a 6.2-inch screen.
Very similar dimensions and a body made of glass and aluminum very similar to that of the Huawei P30 Lite we find ourselves in the Xiaomi Mi 9. The terminal has only 14.7 centimeters high, 7 wide and a weight of only 155 grams. In this regard, the device is somewhat smaller than Huawei's proposal. This is due to its smaller screen, 5.97 inches.
Regarding the appearance of the Huawei P30 Lite vs Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, both devices have similar colors, based on the famous “aurora borealis” effect thanks to which the tone of the back changes depending on the incidence of light. In fact, the only difference that we find between one and the other is found in the fingerprint sensor, since the front of both part of the same drop-type design with contained margins.
And it is that while in the Mi 9 SE we find a sensor integrated into the screen itself, the P30 Lite opts for a more traditional situation in the back physically. Finally, it is worth noting the absence of the headphone jack of the Mi 9 SE compared to the P30 Lite.
screen
The screen is, along with the internal hardware, one of the differentiating points of the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE compared to the Huawei P30 Lite.
In the case of the latter, we find a 6.15-inch IPS LCD panel with Full HD + resolution and a ratio that reaches 19.5: 9. Same resolution and a very similar ratio (19: 9) we find ourselves on the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE screen. The difference with respect to the latter is that the panel technology is AMOLED, and its size remains at about 5.97 inches.
Which screen is better? The theory tells us that the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE. The panel features not only more advanced technology and more vivid colors, but also higher brightness (480 nits vs. 600 nits).
Finally, it should be noted the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection of the Mi 9 SE panel and the integration of a fingerprint sensor under the screen, although the speed of recognition of this could be lower than that of the sensor of the Huawei P30 Lite, in the absence of testing both terminals in hand.
Photographic section
We come to what is perhaps proclaimed as the most interesting section of all. And is that despite the fact that we find a triple camera system in both terminals, the differences in both cases are worth mentioning.
The Huawei P30 Lite consists of three 24, 8 and 5 megapixel cameras with 120º wide-angle and telephoto lenses and a focus aperture f / 1.8, f / 2.4 and f / 1.8. As for the triple camera of the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, it consists of a 48 megapixel Sony IMX 586 sensor and focal aperture f / 1.75. Along with this, two sensors of 13 and 8 megapixels and focal aperture f / 2.4 in both cases.
Although we have not been able to test any of the terminals in hand, the technical differences tell us that we will obtain brighter and more defined photographs in the case of the Mi 9 SE. On the other hand, the wide angle of the P30 Lite offers greater versatility, having a larger a priori gradual opening. When it comes to portrait mode photography, Xiaomi's fantastic work in recent years makes us think that the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE will have better results.
As far as the front camera is concerned, the picture this time is quite different. A 32 megapixel f / 2.0 camera is what we find in the P30 Lite. Although Huawei has not confirmed it, everything indicates that the sensor is the same as the one integrated in the P30 and P30 Pro, which suggests that the quality will be significantly higher than that of the 20 megapixel camera at f / 2.or of the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE.
If we rely on theory, aspects such as the brightness of the lens is similar in both cases. Not so the definition, significantly higher in the P30 Lite. From the Xiaomi model, highlight the portrait mode that the company usually obtains through processing via software.
Processor and memory
In the performance section there is no doubt, here the palm goes to the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE.
With a Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 processor and an Adreno 612 GPU along with 6 GB of RAM and 64 and 128 GB of internal storage, the terminal shows a clear superiority in processing capacity, graphics and RAM. Translated into a real user experience, it translates into better performance in heavy applications, games with high graphic load and handling of several applications at the same time.
As for the Huawei model, the terminal opts for a Kirin 710 processor together with the GPUMali-G51 MP4, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Of the latter, it is worth highlighting its compatibility with micro SD cards of up to 512 GB and its base storage, which starts at 128 GB.
In all other aspects , Xiaomi's proposal is superior both for its hardware configuration and for its software management, quite superior in the case of MIUI 10.
Autonomy and connectivity
Few are the differences that we find in the section of connectivity and autonomy.
The Huawei P3o Lite has a 3,340 mAh battery and a string of connections of which the presence of NFC, FM radio, Bluetooth 4.2 and USB type C should be highlighted.
As for the Xiaomi terminal, it has a 3,070 mAh battery, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, WiFi with all available bands, dual-band GPS and of course, USB type C.
In direct comparison with the P30 Lite, the terminal has a more complete connectivity sheet (excluding the FM radio and the headphone jack), as well as a charging system that doubles the capacity of the one implemented in the P30 Lite (9 W compared to 18 W of the Mi 9 SE). On the contrary, we find a lower battery that should give us a range slightly below that of the P30 Lite.
Conclusions
After seeing all the points of each of the Asian phones, it is time to draw conclusions, which, as you may have imagined, depend largely on the price. Today it is possible to find both terminals for a price that is around 349 euros. This leaves us with a somewhat bleak outlook to opt for the Huawei option.
And is that for the same price in Xiaomi we get a mobile phone with a better camera, a better screen, more processing power and connectivity, generally more complete. By contrast, the Huawei option has a larger screen and battery, in addition to double the base storage (128 GB compared to the 64 GB base of the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE.
Only in the case that we prioritize the aspects that we have just pointed out, the Huawei P30 Lite will be the model to recommend. We will have to see how the price of it evolves, which, as is usual in Huawei, usually drops about 100 euros on average after months.
