It was this morning when the Huawei P30 Lite was officially presented through the Huawei official website after the launch of the Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro. The new range model presents a good string of news in front of its last year's counterpart. We are referring to the Huawei P20 Lite, one of the best-selling phones of 2018. The latter can currently be found for a price below 200 in stores such as Amazon. Will it deserve the price difference compared to the 2019 model? We see it in our comparison of the Huawei P30 Lite vs Huawei P20 Lite.
Comparative sheet
Design
The design is possibly one of the sections where we find the most changes compared to the 2018 model.
The Huawei P30 Lite has a body made of metal and glass whose dimensions do not exceed 15.2 centimeters high and 7.2 centimeters wide. The thickness is the same as that of the P20 Lite, with only 0.74 centimeters (remember that the battery is 340 mAh larger), and the weight remains at about 159 grams.
If we take a look at the design of the P20 Lite, both the dimensions and the weight and the manufacturing materials are similar. Metal and glass as the main materials and a height and width that do not exceed 14.8 and 7.1 centimeters respectively. The differences in this aspect are based solely on height. And is that thanks to the greater optimization of the surface, the Huawei P30 Lite grows only 4 millimeters.
Regarding the latter, the latest batch terminal has more used frames than the 2018 generation, with a notch in the shape of a drop of water and a lower frame somewhat smaller than that of the Huawei P20 Lite. The rear in both devices is similar with a very similar fingerprint sensor situation. The camera on the two phones is on the left, and they both have headphone jack and USB Type-C connections.
screen
In the section of the screen we hardly find changes, or at least that is what the theory tells us.
The Huawei P30 Lite integrates a 6.15-inch 19.5: 9 panel with IPS LCD technology and Full HD resolution. The same technology and resolution are found on the screen of the Huawei P20 Lite, the only differences are in the size of the panel, 5.84 inches, and its ratio, which starts at 18.7: 9. In this regard, the screen of the P30 Lite is somewhat longer than that of the P20 Lite.
Otherwise, the P30 Lite's panel has 96% color fidelity in the NTSC spectrum, so it is expected that it will have better color reproduction. The data about the brightness of the latter is not yet public, but it is expected that it will exceed the maximum brightness of the Huawei P20 Lite screen, which is about 480 nits.
Photographic set
Along with the design, the cameras section is the one that has evolved the most from one year to the next in the mid-range of the Chinese company.
The camera of the Huawei P30 Lite is made up of three independent sensors with ultra-wide angle and telephoto sensors of 24, 8 and 2 megapixels. The focal aperture of the main 24-megapixel sensor is at f / 1.8, and the degree of angulation of the angular sensor reaches up to 120º.
Regarding the camera of the Huawei P20 Lite, the configuration is made up of two 16 and 2 megapixel sensors whose focal aperture reaches f / 2.2 and f / 2.4. Compared to the camera on the P30 Lite, the camera on the P20 Lite is considerably less bright in low light conditions. The improvement of both the Artificial Intelligence and the telephoto sensor makes us think that the portrait mode will be superior in the case of the P30 Lite.
But if there is something to highlight about the Huawei P30 Lite vs Huawei P20 Lite it is the integration of a sensor with an ultra wide angle lens. With up to 120º aperture, the camera of the 2019 model will allow us to take photographs with greater field width both during the day and at night.
And what about the front camera? Here the changes are somewhat more timid, although equally significant. Following the specifications of the Huawei P30 Lite camera, we find the same sensor as the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro, with 32 megapixels of resolution and a focal aperture of f / 2.0.
As for the front camera of the Huawei P20 Lite, the sensor is made up of a resolution of 16 megapixels and a focal aperture of f / 2.0. The technical differences between the two cameras tell us that we will get better definition photos on the P30 Lite. Huawei also ensures that selfies have been improved in the latter, with greater brightness in low light situations and a more natural color calibration.
Processor and memory
We come to one of the most interesting sections of the Huawei P20 Lite vs Huawei P30 Lite, the hardware.
The Huawei P30 has an octacore Kirin 710 processor manufactured in 14 nanometers and accompanied by a Mali-G51 MP4 GPU. Along with this, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage expandable through micro SD cards up to 512 GB.
Regarding the characteristics of the Huawei P20 Lite, we find an eight-core Kirin 659 processor manufactured in 16 nanometers together with the well-known Mali T830 MP2. 4 and 128 GB of RAM and storage is the memory configuration that accompanies the main heart of the P20 Lite. But how does all this data translate into a real user experience?
In addition to having a more powerful processor (up to 68% for multicore tasks and 75% for single-core tasks), the Huawei P30 Lite is more energy efficient thanks to the CPU manufacturing process. This performance improvement also carries over when playing heavy games and applications that make use of 3D graphics. RAM and ROM memory is another aspect that will help us not only to install more applications on the mobile, but also to have a greater number of processes running at the same time.
Connections and autonomy
There are few differences that we find in one of the increasingly important aspects for the average user.
The connectivity on both devices is practically the same. Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, WiFi a / c and FM radio. Both have USB type C 2.0, and unlike the P20 Lite, the Huawei P30 Lite has fast charging, although Huawei does not specify either the amperage or the watts at which it operates.
As for autonomy, here the differences are somewhat more notable. A 3,340 mAh battery compared to the 3,000 mAh of the P20 Lite is what we find in the Huawei P30 Lite. This represents a theoretical improvement of 11%, which added to the lower consumption of the processor, promises a significant improvement in autonomy in the case of the P30 Lite compared to the 2018 model.
Conclusions
After seeing the main differences of the Huawei P30 Lite vs Huawei P20 Lite, it's time to draw the conclusions. There are few improvements that Huawei has included in the Huawei P30 Lite. Better screen, a much more complete photographic section and an improvement in performance and autonomy that in the absence of testing the terminal in hand, promise to improve the numbers achieved by the Huawei P20 Lite.
Regarding the price of the two mid-range mobiles, currently the Huawei P30 Lite is for twice the price of what we can find the P20 Lite in stores like Amazon. With a starting value of 369 euros compared to 169 euros for the P20 Lite, the former exceeds the price of the last generation by 200 euros.
Is the Huawei P30 Lite worth buying versus the Huawei P20 Lite? Without a doubt, yes, although our
