Last week Huawei launched the Huawei P30 Lite in Spain. It does so with a price that starts at 349 euros, about 30 euros cheaper than the P20 Lite at the time. In front we find rivals such as the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, which we already talked about last week, and the Huawei Mate 20 Lite, a terminal from the same brand that shares most of the components of the P30 Lite. The difference in current price of both terminals exceeds 90 euros, is it worth buying the Mate 20 Lite at the expense of the P30 Lite? We see it in our comparison of the Huawei P30 Lite vs Huawei Mate 20 Lite.
Comparative sheet
Design
Although not a year has passed between the launch of the Huawei Mate 20 Lite and the Huawei P30 Lite, the truth is that we found big differences when it came to design.
In the P30 Lite we find a body made of aluminum and glass whose front has some frames that are quite used if we compare them with those of the Mate 20 Lite. This is not only due to the optimization of its top, bottom and side frames, but to the incorporation of a notch in the shape of a water drop.
The Mate 20 Lite, by contrast, opts for a somewhat more traditional island-shaped notch. The larger size of this allows it, among other things, to integrate a second camera sensor, unlike the P30 Lite.
But the differences do not stop there. The Mate 20 has a 6.3-inch screen that is 0.15-inch higher than the P30 Lite. This is not only seen in the height and width of the terminal, which is 0.6 and 0.3 centimeters higher than that of the P30 Lite, but also in the thickness and weight, which in this case exceeds 0.2 centimeters and 13 grams that of the 2019 model. The fault of this is, in addition, the battery, which we will talk about in the corresponding section.
screen
If in the design we found a series of palpable differences, on the screen the dissimilarities are practically minimal. And is that in the absence of data such as the brightness nits or the ratio of color representation in the NTSC scale, we can confirm that it is the same panel in both cases.
The only difference is in size, 6.3 inches in the case of the Mate 20 Lite and 6.15 in the case of the P30 Lite. The rest of the characteristics are, a priori, identical. Same Full HD + resolution, same IPS LCD technology and same 19.5: 9 ratio. We will have to test the P30 Lite in hand to see the real differences with the latter, although everything indicates that we are facing the same panel.
Photographic section
We come to one of the most interesting sections of the Huawei Mate 20 Lite vs Huawei P30 Lite. This year Huawei has decided to bet everything with the Huawei P30 Lite, with a configuration based on three cameras that largely imitates the original configuration of the Huawei P30 Lite.
Specifically, the three cameras of the P30 Lite consist of three 24, 8 and 2 megapixel sensors with 120º wide angle and telephoto lenses. The focal aperture, in order, of the three sensors remains at f / 1.8, f / 2.4 and f / 1.8.
As for the Huawei Mate 20 Lite, the terminal incorporates a similar configuration of two 20 and 2 megapixel cameras with telephoto lens and f / 1.8 focus aperture on both sensors.
Which camera is better and which mobile offers us better quality? The theory tells us that the results of the photographs with the main camera will be similar in both cases. Somewhat more defined and with greater lighting in the case of the P30 Lite, although nothing crazy. Where the latter shows a clear superiority is the versatility of its two remaining cameras.
Thanks to the 120º wide-angle sensor we will be able to capture images with a greater field of vision. The result in photos in portrait mode the results should be similar, by integrating a similar system and lens, since in both terminals we find the possibility of adjusting the focus.
And what about the front camera? Interestingly, the tables are reversed when it comes to versatility. And it is that while in the Huawei P30 Lite we find a single 32 megapixel sensor with f / 2.0 focal aperture, in the Huawei Mate 20 Lite we find a double 24 and 2 megapixel camera with the same aperture seal as the camera of the Huawei P30 Lite. Translated into tangible data we can confirm that while the Mate 20 Lite camera offers greater versatility in terms of camera modes (portrait mode, selective focus…), the P30 Lite offers higher quality in terms of definition.
Processor and memory
The new generation of Huawei in mid-range mobiles chooses to integrate similar hardware in all its models in the price range of 200/300 euros. It was not going to be less in the case of the Huawei Mate 20 Lite vs Huawei P30 Lite.
In the two terminals we find a Kirin 710 processor along with 4 GB of RAM and a memory configuration that starts from 128 GB in the case of the P30 Lite and 64 GB in the case of the Mate 20 Lite. Also the expansion capacity through micro SD cards is greater in the P30 Lite than in the Mate 20 Lite, with up to 512 GB in the first case and 256 GB in the second.
Along with the hardware, the software is another aspect that the Mate 20 Lite and the P30 Lite share. Android 9 Pie under EMUI 9.0 is the version that both devices start from.
Few are the differences that we expect in performance, if not none. As a highlight of the P30 Lite, its greater expansion capacity and the base storage version from which it starts, which comes to double that of the Mate 20 Lite.
Autonomy and connectivity
As with the processor and memory, connectivity is another of the sections where both terminals share components.
Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, WiFi 802.11 a / c, FM radio, GPS + GLONASS and USB type C in its version 2.0 is what we find in the Huawei P30 Lite and the Huawei Mate 20 Lite.
Regarding autonomy, the P30 opts for a 3,340 mAh battery with 18 W fast charging. The Mate 20 Lite, on the other hand, has a 3,750 mAh battery with the same 18 W fast charge. Although the differences in terms of autonomy depend on the use that each person makes of the device, it is expected that the Mate 20 Lite offers us greater autonomy in general.
Conclusions
After seeing the main differences between the Huawei P30 Lite vs Huawei Mate 20 Lite the question is obliged, which one is more worth it?
To answer this question we will have to refer to the price of both phones. Currently we can find the Huawei Mate 20 Lite for a price that is around 250 euros in stores like Amazon. As for the P30 Lite, Huawei's recently launched mid-range starts at a price of 349 euros. It should be noted that in this case the company includes a gift Huawei FreeBuds Lite headphones valued at 129 euros.
Given the extensive price difference between the two mobiles of the Chinese firm, the question lies in whether to opt for one model or another. Generally speaking, the Huawei P30 Lite and Huawei Mate 20 Lite have a similar roadmap. The only differences are found in the design and the photographic section, with a clear superiority in the case of the P30 Lite.
On the other side of the ring we find the Mate 20 Lite, which has a larger battery, more screen and a more versatile front camera a priori. In the preferences of each user, it remains to prioritize some aspects over others. If we opt for the P30 Lite and ignore the FreeBuds Lite as a gift, it is best to wait a few weeks for the price of the terminal to stabilize, since for 100 euros less we have a device very similar to this.
