About two weeks ago, Samsung launched two new mid-range terminals in Spain: the Samsung Galaxy A6 and the Samsung Galaxy A6 +. The second is a terminal with a large screen, dual camera, an eight-core processor and a powerful front camera. A very interesting mobile that has hit the market with a price of 370 euros. So, by price and features, it is clear that Samsung has launched these two terminals to compete with Huawei's Lite series.
So, taking this into account, we are going to compare it with one of the most important Huawei terminals in the mid-range. We are talking about the Huawei P20 Lite, a terminal with a large screen, double sensor on the back, a powerful processor and a beautiful design. As you can see, very similar characteristics. That said, we are going to put the Huawei P20 Lite and the Samsung Galaxy A6 + face to face. Which one will be better?

DESIGN
If we are evaluating the purchase of one of these two terminals, the design will be one of the determining points. We have two quite different proposals, at least in terms of materials.
The Huawei P20 Lite bets on a glass back, inherited from its older brothers. The double camera is located on the upper left and in a vertical position. The fingerprint reader is located in the center of the back.
On the front we have a screen with the famous notch in the upper area. At the bottom we have a small frame with the Huawei logo. Although a design without frames is more spectacular, the truth is that when using the terminal with one hand that small lower frame is quite useful.
The full dimensions of the Huawei P20 Lite are 148.6 x 71.2 x 7.45 millimeters, with a weight of 145 grams. The terminal is available in four colors: black, blue, gold and pink.
Samsung has preferred to leave the glass exclusively for its high-end terminals. So the new Samsung Galaxy A6 + has a full metal back cover. It does take away some of the premium look, but surely many prefer the feel of metal.
Like the Samsung Galaxy S9 +, the dual camera system is located in the center of the rear. Under it we have the fingerprint reader. Also two small stripes in a lighter color.
On the front we have a screen with narrow frames, both at the top and at the bottom. The one in the upper area has the front camera, but the lower one has no function other than to facilitate grip.
The full dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy A6 + are 160.2 x 75.7 x 7.9 millimeters, with a weight of 191 grams. That is, it is much larger and above all heavy than its rival in this comparison.
screen
Undoubtedly, the screens are the main protagonists of 2018 mobile phones. The Huawei P20 Lite has a 5.84-inch LCD panel with a FHD + resolution of 2,244 x 1,080 pixels. This screen offers an 18.7: 9 aspect ratio, with a density of 408 pixels per inch.
The Samsung Galaxy A6 + has a 6-inch Super AMOLED panel with FHD + resolution of 2220 x 1080 pixels. The screen offers a density of 411 pixels per inch.
It also has the Always On Display function. This will show us important information at all times, such as the time, notifications and even the status of the battery, without having to turn on the mobile.
Photographic set
Although we are comparing two mid-range terminals, they are already priced high enough to ask for a certain photographic level. On this occasion both contenders have a double camera system. Let's see what they offer us.
The Huawei P20 Lite has a double camera on its back. This is made up of a 12 megapixel main sensor that collects all the information in color. And for a second sensor that is only 2 megapixels. It is responsible for detecting the background to create the bokeh effect or portrait mode.
The selfie camera has a 16-megapixel sensor with f / 2.0 aperture. In our in-depth test both cameras performed well under optimal lighting conditions. Especially the front camera.
The main camera of the Samsung Galaxy A6 + is also dual. It has a main sensor with 16 megapixels of resolution and f / 1.7 aperture. The second sensor offers a resolution of 5 megapixels and an aperture f / 1.9. It is equipped with an autofocus system and is capable of recording video in FHD resolution.
But perhaps the most striking camera on the A6 + is on its front. The terminal has a camera for selfies with no less than 24 megapixels of resolution and f / 1.9 aperture. In addition, it has some very interesting functions at the software level, such as the Selfie Focus or the stickers.
Processor and memory
We are not facing the most powerful mobiles on the market, but both terminals have sufficient technical sets to perfectly perform most tasks.
The Huawei P20 Lite hides a Huawei Kirin 659 processor under the hood. It is a chip with eight cores, four running at 2.36 GHz and the other four at 1.7 GHz.
Accompanying this processor we have 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. And, unlike the Huawei P20 Pro, this one does have a microSD card slot.
The Samsung Galaxy A6 + is powered by a 1.8 GHz octa-core processor. The manufacturer did not want to specify the model. But we do know that the processor is accompanied by 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. A capacity that we can expand using a microSD card.
For lovers of numbers, we can say that the Huawei P20 Lite achieved an AnTuTu result of 87,976 points. Its rival, the Samsung Galaxy A6 +, stayed at 69,749 points.
Autonomy and connectivity
We now turn to talk about autonomy, one of the strengths of the new Samsung terminal. However, we will start by seeing how the Chinese mobile is doing on battery power.
The Huawei P20 Lite equips a 3,000 milliamp battery. It also has a fast charging system. In our in-depth test it passed the full day of use without any problems.
In terms of connectivity, it has NFC, USB Type C port, dual band 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2 with aptX, Category 6 LTE connectivity or the option of using two SIM cards.
The Samsung Galaxy A6 + equips a 3,500 milliamp battery. But, beyond the physical capacity, Samsung has done a great job at the software and energy consumption level.
In our in-depth test, the terminal lasted a day and a half without problems. Only with a very intensive use its autonomy remained in the whole day, which is not bad.
But if you prefer numbers, we can tell you the results in the AnTuTu battery test. The P20 Lite scored 7,136 points. The Samsung terminal got no less than 18,046 points.
In terms of connectivity, the Samsung A6 + is a Dual SIM terminal. It also has a microUSB port, a 3.5 mm miniJack output for headphones, and an integrated FM radio. At the wireless level we have Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi and NFC. The latter allows you to use the Samsung Pay application for contactless payments directly from your mobile.
Conclusions
This year we have high-quality mid-range terminals. Every time they inherit more characteristics of the top models and they are more and more attractive.
As we said at the beginning, the design can be decisive when choosing one terminal or another. I personally prefer the design of the Huawei P20 Lite, since the glass offers a more premium finish. But there will be many who prefer a metallic finish and a terminal without notch.
And speaking of notches, on screen we would put the Samsung Galaxy A6 + slightly ahead. The reason is the use of a Super AMOLED panel, more efficient and with better black levels.
In the photographic section we have obtained very even results. But let's give the Samsung Galaxy A6 + a small advantage again, since we think that in low light conditions it is ahead of the Huawei terminal.
And if we talk about brute force, we have a clear winner. The Huawei P20 Lite scores almost 20,000 more points in AnTuTu than its rival.
Quite the opposite occurs in the autonomy section. Here it is the Samsung Galaxy A6 + that scores much higher than the Huawei P20 Lite. What's more, this is superior to the majority of mobiles that we have analyzed this year.
We have just talked about the price, although we already anticipate that it will not be decisive. The Huawei P20 Lite has an official price of 380 euros. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy A6 + has been launched for sale in Spain with a price of 370 euros. So, which one do you choose?
