We are talking about the recently presented Huawei P20 Lite and one of the latest models that the company presented last year, the Huawei Mate 10 Lite. These two terminals are separated by just under six months. Will they be very different? To discover them we are going to put them face to face in this comparison. If you like these two terminals do not miss it, there may be a surprise.

Design
Six months is a long time for technology. Something you buy today in a few months may be out of date. However, luckily for users, mid-range (even high-end) mobiles are slightly stagnant. It is true that new models may bring little news, but a terminal with less than a year, generally, usually works perfectly.
The biggest change that we are going to find between the P20 Lite and the Mate 10 Lite we will see in the design. The smallest of the P20 family inherits the screen without frames and with the famous notch. We thus have a front almost all screen, in which we only have the bottom frame.
The back of the P20 Lite is made of shiny glass, just like that of its older brother. The double camera is located in the upper left corner, in a vertical position. Right in the center we have the fingerprint reader, very well integrated.
The complete dimensions of the terminal are 148.6 x 71.2 x 7.45 millimeters, with a weight of 145 grams. The P20 Lite is available in four colors: black, blue, gold, and pink.
The Huawei Mate 10 Lite has an all-metal back cover, with the bands at the ends. The double rear camera is also placed in a vertical position, but this time in the center of the terminal. Right below we have the fingerprint reader. The design of the camera is identical to that of the newer model, but in a different position.
The front sports a large screen, albeit with bezels at both ends. The upper frame has the front camera, while in the lower frame we have the Huawei logo. The buttons are integrated into the screen.
The Huawei Mate 10 Lite has dimensions of 156.2 x 75.2 x 7.5 millimeters. Its weight is 164 grams. In other words, it is much larger and heavier than its rival. And the difference in screen size, as we will now see, is practically negligible. By the way, the terminal is available in black, gold and blue.
screen
The Huawei P20 Lite equips a 5.84-inch LCD panel with a FHD + resolution of 2,244 x 1,080 pixels. This screen offers an 18.7: 9 aspect ratio, with a density of 408 pixels per inch.
Huawei Mate 10 Lite has a panel 5.9 inches with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels. It offers an 18: 9 aspect ratio and a body-to-screen ratio of 83%.
Photographic set
Let's talk now about the photographic section. The double camera is the main protagonist in both terminals, although the Mate 10 Lite comes with a surprise on the front.
The Huawei P20 Lite equips a double sensor, although it does not maintain the usual Huawei scheme with a color sensor and a monochrome sensor. In this case, the Huawei P20 Lite has a 12 megapixel main sensor that collects all the information in color. For its part, the second sensor is only 2 megapixels, and is responsible for detecting the background to create the bokeh effect or portrait mode.
The selfie camera has a 16-megapixel sensor with f / 2.0 aperture. In our initial test of the Huawei P20 Lite both cameras obtained a more than acceptable result.
A very similar set equips its rival in this comparison. The Huawei Mate 10 Lite has a 16-megapixel sensor, which is accompanied by another 2-megapixel sensor. The function of the second sensor is, as you can imagine, to achieve the desired blur effect.
On the front, the Mate 10 Lite also includes a dual camera system. On the one hand, it has a 13-megapixel sensor with f / 2.0 aperture that focuses on the image itself. Next to it is another sensor, this one with 2 megapixels and 1.75 µm, which captures color and depth of field.
Processor and memory
We come to the technical section, where, curiously, we have a clear tie. And it is that both terminals equip the same processor.
Both the Huawei P20 Lite and the Huawei Mate 10 Lite hide inside the Huawei Kirin 659. It is a processor that has eight cores, four running at 2.36 GHz and the other four at 1.7 GHz.
Accompanying this chip both terminals have 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. And both can be expanded using a microSD card, although in the P20 Lite we will have the possibility of using a higher capacity card.
Autonomy and connectivity
We are facing two terminals with large screens, high resolution and a good technical set. So the battery should go in line.
The Huawei P20 Lite equips a 3,000 milliamp battery. It may seem like a fair capacity for the technical team it includes, but we will have to wait for the thorough test. Of course, we have a fast charging system available.
Its connectivity section is also up to date, with NFC, USB Type C port, dual-band 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2 with aptX, LTE Category 6 connectivity or the option of using two SIM cards.
The Huawei Mate 10 Lite equips a 3,340 milliamp battery. We have not had the chance to test this terminal, so we cannot compare the real autonomy. According to manufacturer data, the terminal offers a talk time of up to 20 hours. This translates to up to two days with normal use.
In terms of connectivity, it is a bit below its rival. It equips WiFi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX and USB 2.0.
Conclusions
It is clear, after the comparison, that we are facing two very similar terminals. On this occasion the design of them takes on a great role when deciding on one or the other.
The Huawei P20 Lite offers a more current design, although the notch may not be to the liking of all users. In addition, its back is made of glass, while that of its rival is completely metal.
We must also take into account the size of the device. Although they both feature a similarly sized screen, the P20 Lite is smaller and lighter. That said, everyone's personal taste comes into play.
As for the photographic set, it is necessary to differentiate between the main and front cameras. As a rear camera we have a similar set, although the Mate 10 Lite has a higher resolution sensor. At the front, the dual sensor of the Mate 10 Lite stands out. If we are lovers of out of focus selfies, it can be an important feature.
Even more so if we take into account that, on a technical level, we have the same team. Both share processor, amount of memory and storage.
And if we talk about autonomy, the Huawei Mate 10 Lite should be one step ahead. It has a larger battery, although we must bear in mind that it does not include fast charging. Something that, on the other hand, does have its rival.
At the connectivity level, the Huawei P20 Lite is the winner, since being a more current mobile it is better equipped.
We finish the comparison talking about the price. As you know, the Huawei P20 Lite was launched just a few days ago. Its official price is 370 euros. The Huawei Mate 10 Lite has been on the market for several months now, so we can find it at around 280 euros.
