Today we face two titans of the high-end Android. On the one hand we have the Huawei P10 Plus, a vitaminized version of the Huawei P10. On the other hand there is the LG G6, a terminal that surprised everyone with an almost frameless design. Both are at the top of the Android terminal market, both in price and in features. So we wanted to compare them to find out which of the two is better. Here we go!
Design
As we anticipated, Huawei and LG have used very different strategies to attract users. The Chinese company has preferred to be conservative in design and endow its flagship with very powerful technical characteristics. The Koreans, however, have risked with the design of the mobile, as usual.
The biggest design change we find in the P10 Plus over its predecessor is the location of the fingerprint reader. This has been moved to the front, under the glass, and offers a rounded design. It sure reminds you of a certain Korean brand. However, it should be noted that the fingerprint reader is not a physical button and it does not function as Home either.
The back of the Huawei P10 Plus uses metal as the main material, but also glass to cover photographic lenses. This glass part shows a different color than the rest of the back. For example, in the gold color model, the upper part is white.
The full dimensions of the Huawei P10 Plus are 153.5 x 74.2 x 7.2 millimeters, with a weight of 165 grams. The terminal is available in up to eight different shades. We have from the basic colors to some more risky, such as green or blue.
LG, as we said, has risked a little more in the design of the LG G6. No, the company has not kept the module system that we saw in the LG G5. This time they have decided to 'experiment' with the terminal screen, lowering the frames to the maximum. With this they have managed to place a 5.7-inch screen in the space occupied by a 5.2-inch device.
As the screen occupying the entire front, the rest of the elements had to go to the rear. In it we find the fingerprint reader. A rear part that has been designed in glass, but that the company has decided to paint. This means that the touch is not the same as that found in other equipment finished in glass.
One of the most interesting design features of the LG G6 is its resistance to water and dust. The terminal offers IP68 certification, the same as other terminals such as the Samsung Galaxy S8 +. The full dimensions of the LG G6 are 148.9 x 71.9 x 7.9 millimeters, with a weight of 163 grams. The terminal is available in three colors: white, black and silver.
screen
The new Huawei P10 has been criticized for incorporating an overly conservative display. However, the company has reserved its best panel for the older brother. The P10 Plus features a 5.5 - inch screen with QHD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. This high resolution gives it a density of 539 dpi.
As we said, one of the great novelties of the LG G6 is its screen. First, because we have a 5.7-inch panel in a very contained size. Second because it offers a QHD + resolution of 2,880 x 1,440 pixels. And third because it uses an 18: 9 format. That is, the LG G6 screen is somewhat longer than normal.
But if all this is not enough, the screen of the LG G6 holds other surprises. And is that the mobile is compatible with HDR images, both in Dolby Vision format and in HDR10 format. That is, we can enjoy HDR content from platforms such as Netflix or Amazon Prime Video as soon as their applications are ready for it.
Processor, memory and operating system
As you can imagine, we are facing two of the most powerful terminals on the market. The Chinese company maintains the same processor that we saw in the Huawei Mate 9. The LG G6 incorporates the most powerful processor that Qualcomm launched last year.

As we mentioned, the Huawei P10 Plus incorporates Huawei's Kirin 960 processor. We are talking about a processor with eight cores, four running at 2.36 GHz and another four running at 1.84 GHz. A Mali G71 GPU is responsible for the graphics.
Despite having the same processor as its older brother, the P10 Plus does improve on a technical level. And it is that Huawei has wanted this terminal to satisfy the most demanding users. For this, it has been equipped with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. If we still do not have enough, we can expand using a microSD card of up to 256 GB.
As we mentioned, LG have chosen to use a Qualcomm processor. And after the impossibility of including the Snapdragon 835, the company has opted for the Snapdragon 821. And the truth is that it has been quite criticized for it. However, its four cores running at 2.4 GHz have proven to be enough to move any application with ease. In addition, this processor is accompanied by 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. A capacity that we can expand using a microSD card of up to 2 TB.
As for the operating system, of course, both terminals opt for Android 7.0 Nougat. In the case of the Huawei P10 Plus, the EMUI 5.1 customization layer is included. LG also incorporates its own personalization layer, loaded with brand-name applications, as usual.
Camera and multimedia
Huawei, of course, maintains its collaboration with Leica. The P10 Plus incorporates a 12-megapixel color sensor with optical image stabilization and f / 1.8 aperture. It also includes a second sensor, this time monochrome, which has a resolution of 20 megapixels and aperture f / 1.9. The main camera is capable of recording video in 4K resolution.
For selfies we have a camera with an 8 megapixel sensor and a fixed focus system.
The Korean terminal also includes a double camera. The LG G6 maintains a system similar to that seen in its predecessor. That is, we have a 125 degree wide angle lens and f / 2.4 aperture. And on the other hand, we have another lens with an aperture f / 1.8 and optical image stabilization. Both have a resolution of 13 megapixels.
The selfie camera has a 5 megapixel sensor, f / 2.2 aperture and a 100-degree wide angle.
And as for the multimedia section, it is worth noting that the LG G6 incorporates a Quad DAC, which improves sound reproduction, achieving sound up to 50% clearer than simple DAC systems, according to company data.
Autonomy and connectivity
Autonomy becomes a key point when we talk about such large terminals. The Huawei P10 Plus has a 3,750 milliamp battery. In our in-depth test the terminal achieved an AnTuTu score of 7,756 points. On a practical level this translated into an autonomy of a full day left over, but having to recharge at night yes or yes.
We also have a really effective fast charging system. In our tests we were able to go from 0% to 100% battery in an hour and a half. In 30 minutes we can reach 50% of the battery capacity.
Its rival, the LG G6, has a 3,300 milliamp battery. In our tests it managed to endure a whole intensive day without problems.
The Korean terminal also includes a fast charging system, specifically Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.1. In our analysis we need only one hour and 15 minutes to fully charge the LG G6 battery.
And in terms of connectivity, both terminals come prepared with the latest. They both have Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, 802.11ac WiFi, and a USB-C charging connector.
Conclusions and price
If we are looking for a very powerful mobile phone with a first-rate camera, we will have to opt for a high-end terminal. And two of its best exponents are the Huawei P10 Plus and the LG G6. Two terminals that are very even in almost everything. So in the decision we make the design will have a lot of weight. While Huawei opts for a continuity line, at LG they have risked again. Of course, this time playing a little more on the safe side.
Both terminals have a large screen and high resolution. However, it's fair to say that the LG G6 has some pretty cool extras.
If we compare the terminals in gross power, possibly the Huawei P10 Plus comes out as the winner. We must not forget that it has 2 GB more RAM than its rival. However, neither of them will let us down in the daily use of the device.
Something similar will happen with cameras. Despite opting for different solutions, both offer the best on the market. It is possible that the wide angle of the LG G6 surprises us more at first, but in general photography both have great quality.
Finally, we also have a tie in autonomy. Although the Huawei P10 Plus battery is larger, LG's Snapdragon processor appears to be more efficient. In short, they will both hold up well for the full day, but we'll have to charge them at night. Luckily, they both offer very fast charging.
And we finish with the price, which this time will not be decisive either. The Huawei P10 Plus has an official price of 800 euros. The LG G6 has an official price of 750 euros. As you can see, we are talking about very similar amounts. Which one do you choose?
