Samsung Galaxy A8s (left) and Huawei Nova 4 (right).
Samsung and Huawei have already presented their first mobile phones with an on-screen camera. Both companies want a terminal with the frames and the notch, providing a more striking solution at first glance, much more practical: the camera on the screen. The Huawei Nova 4 is the mobile phone of the Chinese company that debuts with this technology. In the case of Samsung, they do it with the Galaxy A8s. Both are mid / high-end terminals. How are they different and what do they have in common? We compare them below.
Design
One of the most important aspects of both terminals is the design. There are many more similarities than differences here. Both feature a glass back finish, frameless display, and camera directly on the panel. The Samsung Galaxy A8s has a triple main camera, like the Nova 4. Both have an on-screen fingerprint reader and aluminum frames. If there is a main difference it is in the size of the front lens. Huawei boasts that it is slightly smaller, so it is less annoying on screen and makes the notification panel fit better.
These are the dimensions of both terminals.
- Huawei Nova 4: 157 x 75.1 x 7.77 mm.
- Samsung Galaxy A8s: 58.4 x 74.9 x 7.4 mm.

screen
We go to the screen. Again, very similar aspects. Panoramic formats with hardly any frames in both models, so the differences are in the size and technology of the panel. On the one hand, the Samsung Galaxy A8s is Super AMOLED and with a size of 6.4 inches with Full HD + resolution. The one on the Nova 4 is also 6.4 inches, but has an LCD panel. In this case, also with a Full HD + resolution. In the images it seems that the Huawei Nova 4 has a little more bottom frame than the Galaxy A8s. The dimensions also suggest it.
Performance, autonomy and connectivity
Samsung Galaxy A8s
In the performance and autonomy of the Huawei Nova 4 and Samsung Galaxy A8s we find differences and similarities at the same time, the reason? They have the same RAM, the same number of cores in the processor and the same internal storage.
Both models have a version that starts with 8 GB of RAM, more than enough to move the entire system. The Huawei Nova 4 includes a Kirin 970 processor. It is the same one used by the Huawei P20 Pro, one of the company's top ranges, so performance is more than assured. On the other hand, the Galaxy A8s does not have its own processor, but one from Samsung. Specifically the Snapdragon 710, a high-mid-range chip that is present in devices such as the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE or the recently introduced Oppo R17 Pro. The two models have a version that starts from 128 GB of internal storage.
What about autonomy? Here it seems that the Huawei Nova 4 wins, since it has more mAh than the Galaxy A8s and they have practically the same screen configuration. Of course, the Samsung mobile panel consumes less. The Nova 4's battery is 3,750 mAh, while that of the Galaxy A8s is 3,400 mAh.
In the connections we hardly find differences. Both have 4G LTE connectivity, Wifi, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity for mobile payments.
Camera
The triple camera also comes to the Samsung Galaxy A8s and the Huawei Nova 4. Both companies have already launched a triple camera device. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy A8s, the triple lens has a resolution of 24 megapixels with an aperture f / 2.7. The second sensor is 10 megapixels with wide angle and has a third of 5 megapixels with depth of field. A similar setup uses the Huawei Nova 4, although the wide-angle camera is 16 megapixels and has a depth of field lens with 10 megapixel resolution. The main lens goes down to 20 megapixels. However, the nova 4 has a special edition with a 48 megapixel camera, which is capable of bringing greater detail to images. The front camera of the Galaxy A8s and that of the Huawei Nova 4 is 24 megapixels.
Conclusions and prices
The Samsung Galaxy A8s and the Huawei Nova 4 are very, very similar terminals. Both have a large screen and in Full HD + resolution, both have an 8 GB RAM and triple camera with a similar configuration. The only feature that wins one may be autonomy, since Huawei's mobile has a few mAh more.
Neither model has been launched in Spain, so we do not know the price. At the same time, the Huawei Nova 4 would be around 400 euros, while the price of the Samsung mobile is still unknown.
