Although it has not yet been made official in Spain and the rest of the European countries, the Huawei Mate 30 Lite, better known as Huawei Nova 5i Pro in China, has already been officially presented. Its arrival, like previous iterations of the Mate series, is expected next September, the date on which the rest of the Mate 30 series phones are supposed to arrive. In front we find models such as the Huawei Mate 20 Lite, a model that despite having been on the market for a year, is still one of the most complete proposals in the Huawei catalog. Will the change be worth it? What is new about the Mate 30 Lite compared to the Mate 20 Lite? We see it in our comparison between the Huawei Mate 30 Lite vs Huawei Mate 20 Lite.

Design
If the Mate 20 Lite already represented an evolution in terms of design compared to the Mate 10 Lite, the Mate 30 Lite comes to improve what the company has been doing historically with the Mate Lite series, and this time we start from two totally different concepts.
Huawei Mate 30 Lite
Notch in the shape of an island and a use of the front surface greater than that of previous generations, the Mate 30 Lite has very small margins and a size that reaches 15.6 centimeters high and 7.3 wide. Compared to the Mate 20 Lite, the terminal decreases 0.2 centimeters in height and 0.2 in width despite having a screen of similar size. It should also be noted the increase in thickness thanks, in part, to the improvement in the capacity of the battery, which we will talk about later.
Huawei Mate 20 Lite
If we move to the rear, the two terminals start from a very similar base, having glass and aluminum as the main construction materials. The position of the fingerprint sensor coincides in both, and the only appreciable difference has to do with the design of the cameras, more voluminous in the case of the Mate 30 Lite.
screen
Although the Mate 30 Lite is not yet for sale in the European market, everything indicates that the terminal will have a screen very similar to that of the Mate 20 Lite, at least as far as technical characteristics are concerned.
A 6.26-inch screen with Full HD + resolution and IPS technology that compared to the 6.3-inch Mate 20 Lite screen and the same resolution as the Mate 30 Lite, the only difference it saves comes from the hand of the size, as both have the same ratio of 19.5: 9. However, aspects such as the brightness of the panel, the viewing angles or the representation of colors are expected to improve compared to the Mate 20 Lite panel, although we will have to wait to test both terminals in hand to corroborate it.
Processor and memory
Unlike the Huawei P30 Lite, the Huawei Mate 30 Lite has released the new version of Huawei's processor for the mid-range. We are talking about the Kirin 810, a unit whose performance is superior to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 730.
Along with the processor, we find 6 and 8 GB of RAM and 128 and 256 GB of internal storage. For its part, the Huawei Mate 20 Lite has a Kirin 710 processor , 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. It is expected, therefore, that the performance will be significantly higher in the latest iteration of the Mate series, having greater processing capacity and a much more powerful graphics than that of the Mate 20 Lite.
The increase in RAM memory will directly influence the number of applications that the terminal will be able to run at the same time, as well as its durability over time in terms of updates. Energy efficiency is another point that improves compared to last year's Kirin 710, being manufactured in 7 nanometers.
Photographic set
We come to what is possibly the most interesting section of all, that of the cameras.
With no less than four cameras behind it, the Huawei Mate 30 Lite has four 48, 8, 2 and 2 megapixel sensors with wide-angle, macro and “depth” lenses and focal aperture f / 1.8, f / 2.4 and f /1.8. As far as the front is concerned, the phone drinks from the same sensor seen in models like the P30 Lite or the P30, with 32 megapixels of resolution and f / 2.0 focal aperture.
Regarding the Huawei Mate 20 Lite, the 2018 model has two rear cameras of 20 and 2 megapixels with focal aperture f / 1.8 and f / 1.8 and two front cameras of 24 and 2 megapixels with the same aperture f / 2.0 in both cases. Beyond the technical data, and in the absence of the respective camera tests, where the Mate 30 Lite is superior compared to the Mate 20 Lite is in versatility.
Thanks to the wide-angle and macro lens that the terminal incorporates, we will be able to capture landscapes and bodies with a greater field of view, as well as small objects without having to resort to manual adjustments. In the rest of aspects such as portrait mode or the level of luminosity, it is expected that both terminals comply in a solvent way, although it is worth highlighting the greater definition of the Mate 30 Lite by having a sensor of no less than 48 megapixels and a processor with better photographic treatment.
If we move to the front, here the tables are turned slightly. By having two sensors with different lenses, the Mate 20 Lite obtains photos with better results in modes such as the famous bokeh or portrait. In contrast, the Mate 30 Lite gets higher definition by having a 32 megapixel sensor.
Autonomy and connectivity
We had been predicting it at the beginning of the article and it is now when we go into more detail. Part of the reason for the thickening of the Huawei Mate 30 Lite is due to the increase in battery capacity, which in this case becomes 4,000 mAh instead of the 3,750 mAh of the Mate 20 Lite.
Along with the reduction in the size of its screen and the energy efficiency of the processor, the autonomy of the Mate 30 augurs significantly better results in relation to those of the Mate 20. It is also worth mentioning the improvement in fast charging technology, which in this case reaches 22.5 W instead of the 18 W of the Mate 20. This should give us a somewhat shorter charging time, although we must take into account the greater battery capacity.
In terms of connectivity, the improvement comes from the Bluetooth version , 5.0 in the case of the Mate 30 and 4.2 in the case of the Mate 20. For the rest, both have NFC, FM radio and dual-band WiFi, in addition to USB type C 2.0.
Conclusions
After seeing the main differences between the Huawei Mate 30 Lite vs Huawei Mate 20 Lite, it's time to draw conclusions. Although the new model has not yet reached Europe, and more specifically Spain, its price is expected to be similar to that of the Mate 20 Lite at the time of its departure, although it is likely that it will end up exceeding the barrier of 400 euros.
In the other part of the ring we find the Huawei Mate 20 Lite, whose price in Amazon and other stores is only 199 euros. Is it worth paying double for the Mate 30 Lite? From our point of view, no.
The purchase of the latter is only recommended when its price begins to approach 290 and even 250 euros. Above those prices we find mobiles like the Xiaomi Mi 9T or even the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro, models, in short, more interesting than the Mate 30 Lite.
