The Honor View 20 has become one of the first high-end terminals to include the aforementioned hole in the screen for the front camera. But this design, which seems to be in fashion this year, is not the most interesting of this device. It is also striking for including a 48 megapixel rear camera, thus returning to the time when all manufacturers competed to put more megapixels in their cameras. Added to this is a large screen, a powerful processor, a lot of memory and a large battery. Will it be able to compete with these weapons against the top of the range of 2018?
Well, that is precisely what we want to verify. Today we are going to compare it with what, for many, is the best high-end mobile of last year. We are talking about the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, a terminal equipped with a triple rear camera, 24 MP front camera, Huawei Kirin 980 processor and a gigantic battery. Actually, a technical set very similar to that of the new Honor terminal. We know that the price of the Huawei terminal is higher than that of Honor, so we want to know if it is worth the investment difference from one to the other. So we put the Honor View 20 and the Huawei Mate 20 Pro face to face.

Design and display
The first big difference between the Honor View 20 and the Mate 20 Pro is found in the design. The main attraction of the design of the Honor terminal is the inclusion of a hole in the screen itself to introduce the front camera. It is something new that we will probably get tired of seeing in the coming months.
Speaking of the screen, the View 20 has a 6.4-inch panel that takes advantage of practically the entire surface of the front. Thanks to the solution used for the camera, it achieves a 91% screen-to-body ratio. On the other hand, the screen has a Full HD + resolution of 2,310 x 1,080 pixels.
For the rest, we have a glass back with a nice color gradient. The dual camera is "split", with one sensor independent of the other. Both are located in the upper left part of the terminal and are placed in a horizontal position.
The fingerprint reader is in the center of the back. The full dimensions of the Honor View 20 are 156.9 x 75.4 x 8.1 millimeters, with a weight of 180 grams.
As for the Mate 20 Pro, it also has a glass back. The sides are slightly curved to meet the metal frames, very much in the style of Samsung terminals. Although the back is made of glass, as we said, it is covered by a non-slip layer that gives it a very special finish.
The triple chamber is located in the central area. Together with the flash, they form a kind of dice on the back of the terminal, which is also very striking because it has a black background.
As for the screen, the Mate 20 Pro equips a 6.39-inch OLED panel with a 2K + resolution of 3,120 x 1,440 pixels. And, although the front has been used more, it still has the notch at the top and a small frame at the bottom.
The full dimensions of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro are 157.8 x 72.3 x 8.6 millimeters, with a weight of 189 grams. That is, it is thicker and heavier than its rival, although it has an explanation. We will see later.
Photographic set
The photographic section is one of the most important when we talk about high-priced terminals. And the truth is that the two models that we are comparing stand out in this section, each in its own way.
The Honor View 20 incorporates a main camera with a Sony sensor of 48 megapixels of resolution and f / 1.8 aperture. This CMOS sensor is ½ inch in size and promises good results both in good light conditions and in dark scenes. In addition, it includes a 3D rear camera that is capable of capturing more details about the depth of field to create original compositions.
Nor could the AI algorithm be missing to analyze the scenes and configure values such as contrast and color automatically.
On the front we have a 25 megapixel camera with f / 2.0 aperture. We understand that Artificial Intelligence will also enter here to achieve various effects, such as Portrait Mode.
As for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro it equips a triple sensor on its back. The Chinese manufacturer has decided to eliminate its iconic black and white sensor, replacing it with an Ultra Wide angle. Thus, the triple camera set of the Mate 20 Pro consists of:
The main RGB sensor of 40 megapixels and aperture f / 1.8
An 8 megapixel telephoto lens with f / 2.4 aperture
And a 20 megapixel Leica Ultra Wide-angle lens with f / 2.2 aperture
In addition, the terminal has an AI system and hybrid autofocus (deep focus, phase focus, contrast focus and laser focus). We also have optical image stabilization and a new macro photography mode.
As for the front camera, we have a 24-megapixel sensor with f / 2.0 aperture. This also has an AI system, portrait mode and automatic HDR. In addition, it includes a complex 3D facial recognition system, which allows the mobile to be unlocked even without light.
Processor and memory
We have seen that in design and cameras we have great differences between these two terminals. However, these disappear when speaking of the technical set.
Under the hood of the Honor View 20 we find a Kirin 980 processor made by Huawei. This same 7 nm chip is found in the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
Accompanying the processor we have 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage in both models. Of course, the Honor View 20 will also be available with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, although we do not know if this version will reach Europe.
In addition, the Mate 20 Pro supports NM cards of up to 256 GB to expand the storage capacity of the terminal.
Autonomy and connectivity
Autonomy is one of the most critical points of any terminal, but especially of high-end mobiles. These have very powerful processors, large screens and high resolution and very complex cameras.
The Honor View 20 has a 4,000 milliamp battery. It is a capacity, a priori, very good. However, we will have to check its actual performance in our in-depth analysis.
We have already commented on it in other comparisons, but it is that the battery of the Mate 20 Pro plays in another league. It is equipped with a 4,200 milliamp battery, with a 40W fast charging system. In addition, it is capable of charging other devices wirelessly through the reverse charging system that Huawei has implemented.
Conclusions and price
We reach the end of the comparison and we must answer the question we asked ourselves at the beginning: is the price difference between the Honor View 20 and the Huawei Mate 20 Pro justified?
In terms of design, each user at a particular level will have to decide how much he hates the notch on the screen. Because, otherwise, both devices sport a glass body with very striking colors.
We do have important differences in the screen, since the Mate 20 Pro uses a higher resolution OLED panel.
There is also quite a difference in the photographic section. To know the image quality that the Honor terminal achieves, we will have to wait for the analysis, but for now the Mate 20 Pro offers greater versatility thanks to its three sensors.
On a technical level we have the same processor and the same amount of RAM, so the performance should be practically identical (with small differences due to the software).
And in autonomy, both models have a large battery. However, that of the Mate 20 Pro is superior in both capacity and load capacities.
Finally we have to talk about the price. The Honor View 20 hits the market with an official price of 550 euros for the model with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. On the other hand, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro went on sale with a starting price of 1,050 euros, although it can currently be found at a lower price.
If you want the best camera, a higher resolution screen and the best autonomy on the market, you should opt for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. But if you don't need "the best" and want to save a lot of euros, the Honor View 20 has become a great option. Which one do you like the most?
