With the arrival of the Google Pixel 3 XL, the Samsung Galaxy S9 + has a new rival to face in the ring. The new Google device has a good set of features in order to seduce the largest possible audience. It has a 6.3-inch QHD screen, 12-megapixel rear camera, 3,400 mAh battery (with fast charge), as well as an eight-core processor and 4 GB of RAM.
However, Samsung's current flagship is not going to make it easy for you. This model boasts a double rear camera, 6 GB of RAM or a slightly larger battery, 3,500 mAh with fast charge. To all this we must add that in its design there is no notch or notch, a detail that the Pixel 3 XL does not lack. Also, the reduction of frames on both sides of the panel is more noticeable. If you want to know all the details in full, do not stop reading. Today we put the Google Pixel 3 XL and Samsung Galaxy S9 + face to face. Which one do you think will be the winner?

Design
At the design level, the two phones are quite different. Google has opted for an aesthetic very similar to what we have seen in the iPhone Xs Max, with a front with hardly the presence of frames, but with a small notch or notch on the upper front. In this sense, there are quite a few improvements over last year's model, whose bezels were much more prominent leaving less space for the screen.
If we turn it around, that brand's own two-tone tone has not changed, which divides the upper part from the lower part. Of course, on this occasion metal has not been used but glass. This means that both parts are made of glass, while the frame and chassis are made of metal. Nor is it missing the so characteristic lock and unlock button in different colors depending on the color of the device we choose, nor a fingerprint reader. Specifically, it is the protagonist of the rear.
We think Samsung has worked better on the design of the Galaxy S9 + compared to the Pixel 3 XL. It is a really elegant mobile and not only for the materials used, but also for the details. Because yes, Samsung has really taken into account each of the elements that make up its device at the design level. The terminal arrives built entirely of glass, with metallic frames. Its corners and screen are slightly curved, giving the feeling that the panel is much larger in reduced dimensions. Samsung has repeated the formula again and has left a reduced frame on both sides of the panel. This has served to avoid a notch or notch, quite uncomfortable for many users and which the Pixel 3 XL does not lack, as we have explained before.
On the other hand, we must highlight the new distribution of the rear camera and the fingerprint sensor. Now the latter is positioned just below, also occupying a central position. It is true that it is more comfortable when using it, but sometimes it is possible that we put our finger on the lens and end up leaving a mark on it accidentally.
screen
The two mobiles play in the league of large screens. However, there are small differences. While the Pixel 3 XL has a 6.3-inch OLED type, the S9 + is a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED. However, its resolution is higher: Quad HD + of 2,960 x 1,440 pixels instead of the QHD of the Pixel 3 XL. Really, the two are going to look sharp and bright and they are not going to disappoint when it comes to browsing multimedia content or going through the photo album.
Processor and memory
Do you like to use many apps and also you usually use several services and tools at the same time? So don't settle for a mid-range or low-end mobile. Both Google and Samsung have made an effort to manufacture two computers that do not steal the user's patience at the first change. Both phones are powered by current processors, capable of working smoothly in any situation. The Pixel 3 XL arrives with the latest beast from Qualcomm. We refer to the Snapdragon 845, a chip with eight cores, four of them dedicated to work at maximum power (speed of 2.8 GHz). The remaining four are dedicated to reducing consumption. They work at a speed of 1.6 GHz.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 +, for its part, houses an Exynos 9810, typical of the brand. It is a processor that has eight cores, four running at 2.7 GHz and another four at 1.7 GHz. We can say that both SoCs are first cousins and operate in a similar way. Of course, while the Google Pixel 3 XL has 4 GB of RAM, the Galaxy S9 + has 6 GB, something to keep in mind if you like to squeeze a mobile to the fullest.
For the rest, in terms of storage capacity, the two devices offer a version with 64 GB. In the case of needing more space, the Pixel 3 XL also arrives with 128 GB, although the S9 + boasts a model with 256 GB. In any case, the two rivals can expand this capacity without problems by using a memory card of the microSD type.
Photographic section
Again, and despite the fact that the Google Pixel 3 XL promises at a photographic level, we think that the S9 + comes out better in this section, at least with regard to the main camera. This model equips a double sensor on its rear (the Pixel 3 Xl only one). This double camera has a resolution of 12 megapixels with a variable aperture system for the main sensor. This means that it is capable of adjusting its aperture between f / 1.5 and f / 2.4, depending on the amount of light there is at the time of capture. The second sensor is a telephoto lens with an f / 1.5 aperture. This will give us the option to focus and zoom to our liking without the photo losing much quality.
The Google Pixel 3 XL has a single 12-megapixel sensor on its rear with f / 1.8 aperture, optical stabilization, laser focus, as well as Dual Pixel PDAF for focus. We expect good results, although the most pleasant surprise is really in the front camera. Unlike the S9 +, which has a single 8-megapixel lens, the Pixel 3 XL mounts two of the same resolution (8-megapixel). One of them has a wide angle, perfect for group photos.
Battery and connections
Without a doubt, the battery is one of the characteristics that concern the most and the one that we usually pay attention to when buying a phone. The fact that high-end mobiles increasingly have more outstanding features has forced manufacturers to improve autonomy. With this in mind, both the Pixel 3 XL and the Galaxy S9 + deliver without a hitch. Both have fast charging and a 3,400 and 3,500 mAh battery, respectively. Regarding the connections, both models offer Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB Type C, NFC, and dual-band 802.11 ac WiFi.
It should be noted that the Google PIxel 3 Xl comes standard with Android 9.0 Pie, the latest version of Google's mobile platform. The Samsung Galaxy S9 + does so with the previous version, Android 8.0 Oreo. However, this mobile can now be updated without problems on foot.
Pricing and availability
The Google Pixel 3 XL is now available to reserve on the company's official website. Two versions are available to choose from: with 64GB and 128GB of storage. The model with more space can be purchased in white and pink. The one that offers 64 GB will be available, in addition to these two colors, in black. In terms of prices, the Pixel 3 XL with 128 GB costs 1,050 euros. With 64 GB, something cheaper is available, for 950 euros.
For its part, currently the Galaxy S9 + (dual SIM) 64 GB can be found on the South Korean website at a price of 900 euros. With 256 GB it costs 1,100 euros. If you buy it now, you can also benefit from a Gear VR gift, the augmented reality glasses from Samsung.
