This year Huawei has insisted on taking over the mid-range. The Chinese manufacturer has in its catalog with multiple options for those looking for an inexpensive mobile without giving up a recognized brand. However, the most economical range is the Y series. A family of mobiles that has recently been renewed with new models. For example, the latest release is the Huawei Y7. Today we want to compare it with one of its little brothers, the Huawei Y6 II. Let's check if the price difference between them is worth it.
Design
The first major difference between the Huawei Y7 and the Huawei Y6 II is found in their design. Although if we look at them from the front they seem very similar, the same does not happen when we analyze them in detail.
The Huawei Y7 offers a more elegant and sophisticated design. And this model has a totally metallic body. The back is completely smooth and only the camera lens stands out.
The front is just as sober as the back. In it we only have the screen, which has slightly curved edges, and the company logo. The Huawei Y7 does not include a fingerprint reader.
The full dimensions of the Huawei Y7 are 153.6 x 76.4 x 8.35 millimeters, with a weight of 165 grams. The sobriety of the design extends to the colors, being able to choose between black, silver, gold and dark gray.
Very different is the proposal that Huawei makes with the Y6 II. In this case we are talking about a terminal aimed at a younger audience. As we said, if we look at it from the front, the design is very similar to that of its rival. However, at the rear we see the difference.
The back cover of the Huawei Y6 II is made of plastic. It also has a striking design with a diamond texture that creates reflections on the surface. The frames are metal, so they give the whole a plus of resistance.
Huawei has chosen some very striking colored covers for the Huawei Y6 II. We have covers in pastel pink, yellow and blue; colors that are added to the more serious tones such as white, black and gold.
In terms of size and weight, the new Huawei model measures 154.3 x 77 x 8.45 millimeters, with a weight of 168 grams. As you can see it is neither too thick nor too heavy.
screen
Despite being quite inexpensive phones, both models have a large screen. The Huawei Y7 has a panel 5.5 inch HD resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. With these data we get a density of 267 dots per inch. As we said before, the screen is covered by a 2.5D glass.
The screen of the Huawei Y6 II is also 5.5 inches in size. The screen resolution is also the same as that of its rival. That is, we have a panel with HD resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. That is, the density remains, again, at 267 points.
As we said, it is quite a considerable size. If we look at other similarly priced mobiles, such as the Moto G5 Plus, they have a much smaller screen.
Processor, memory and operating system
As you can imagine for the rest of the features, we are facing two terminals with simple hardware. In addition, the company has chosen to equip two very different options.
The Huawei Y7 includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor. It is an eight-core chip, four running at 1.4 GHz and another four at 1.1 GHz. Accompanying this processor we have 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. However, we can expand the memory with a microSD card.

The Huawei Y6 II has a HiSilicon Kirin 620 processor. It is a chip with eight cores at 1.2 GHz. This chip is accompanied by 2 GB of internal memory and a capacity of 16 GB of storage. We can expand this capacity by using microSD cards of up to 128 GB.
In other words, as we said, we have two very modest technical teams. Still, they seem to be above other similarly priced terminals, such as the ZTE Blade V8 Lite.
As for the operating system, the Huawei Y7 comes with Android 7.0 Nougat as standard. The Huawei Y6 II, however, makes do with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This difference is totally understandable if we take into account the time that separates the two mobiles.
Camera and multimedia
The main camera of the Huawei Y7 equips a 12 megapixel sensor. To get more light, the camera uses 1.25 µm pixels. It also includes an LED flash, with phase detection focus to better capture subjects. The firm guarantees a focus in just 0.3 seconds.
Another highlight of this Huawei Y7 is the selfie camera. It includes an 8 megapixel sensor, enough to get good selfies.
The Huawei Y6 II is equipped with a very similar photographic set. As the main camera we have a 13 megapixel sensor with f / 2.0 aperture. Of course, we are not aware that larger pixels are also used in this model.
On the front we find an 8 megapixel sensor and f / 2.0 aperture. Despite having terminals with more resolution, such as the Samsung Galaxy J5 2017, it is a very common resolution in the mid-range.
Autonomy and connectivity
We now come to one of the strengths of the Huawei Y7. The Chinese company wants to offer the public a modest but computer perfect for users who require a lot of battery.
And is that the Huawei Y7 has a battery of no less than 4,000 milliamps. We have not had the opportunity to test this terminal thoroughly, but we are sure that it could withstand a day and a half of intensive use without problems.
According to Huawei's own calculations, the phone can provide us with an autonomy of 20 hours of video playback or 15 hours of browsing, without pauses. In addition, according to Huawei it is a high-quality battery, because it can continue to retain more than 80% of the battery after having exceeded 500 charge cycles.
Likewise, the Huawei Y6 II also stands out in the battery section. Although it does not reach the level of its rival, it has a 3,000 milliamp battery. This is a very interesting capacity for a mobile in this price range. As with the Y7, we have not had the opportunity to test it thoroughly. However, we are sure that you will be able to endure an intensive day without problems.
With regard to connectivity, both terminals are practically identical. We have support for 4G LTE networks, WiFi 802.11b / g / n, Bluetooth, GPS and WiFi Direct.
Conclusions and price
We have before us two mobile phones with a moderate price and a very modest technical set. The Huawei Y6 II came on the market a year ago, so today you can get even cheaper. On the other hand, the Huawei Y7 is one of the latest launches of the Chinese company and, in part, it comes to replace the first. So, with this comparison, we wanted to see if there really are many differences between them.
If we had both phones in hand, the most notable difference would be found in the design. As we have commented, the Huawei Y7 opts for metal as its main material. That makes its design more premium, but also something more serious.
The Huawei Y6 II, however, offers a more youthful design. Its rear is plastic, yes, but its design is much more fun. It has a diamond-shaped finish and some very striking color options.
Something more even is the technical section. We have the same screen size and resolution on both terminals. On the other hand, both the Huawei Y7 and the Huawei Y6 II incorporate 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage.
However, the company has decided to include a Qualcomm processor in the Y7. A slightly strange movement, but that we do not think will penalize the final performance of the terminal.
As for the photographic section, it is possible that the Huawei Y7 camera is a point above. On paper they are very similar, but the newer model uses larger pixels, which should give it an advantage over its rival.
Finally we must talk about autonomy. At this point we have a clear winner. The large battery of the Huawei Y7 can be decisive when deciding on one model or another. And be careful, we are not saying that the Huawei Y6 II does not have a good autonomy, but the immense battery of its rival is almost unbeatable.
Finally we need to talk about the price. The Huawei Y7 has been launched on the market with a price of 220 euros. It is a really attractive price for a terminal with these characteristics.
The Huawei Y6 II, on the other hand, is currently priced at around 160 euros. Is it worth the difference in price? In our opinion, yes, since the metallic body of the Huawei Y7 gave it a better finish. But each user must assess whether they are looking for a more or less serious design.
