A few days ago we had the opportunity to thoroughly test the BQ Aquaris X2 Pro. We liked the terminal of the Spanish manufacturer a lot, both for technical characteristics and design and for using Android One. Among its features, the double sensor on the back and a nice high end design.
So we wanted to compare it with another upper-mid-range terminal that we also liked a lot. We are talking about the Honor 10, a terminal that for 400 euros offers practically the same characteristics that we see in the top models on the market. Can the BQ terminal compete with the powerful Honor device? Let's check it out. We put the BQ Aquaris X2 Pro and the Honor 10 face to face.

DESIGN
The two terminals that we are comparing are part of the so-called upper-middle range. That is, they inherit many characteristics of the high-end terminals. Design is one of them, with glass as the main protagonist.
The BQ Aquaris X2 Pro has a glass back and metal frames. On the back we have the fingerprint reader located, right in the center. The double camera is placed in the upper left corner, in a vertical position. This protrudes slightly from the case, as is the case in most terminals today.
The front has frames, although these are not too large. In the upper frame we have the front camera and in the lower one only the company logo.
The full dimensions of the BQ Aquaris X2 Pro are 150.7 x 72.3 x 8.35 millimeters, with a weight of 168 grams. The terminal is available in three colors: white, gray and black.
Also the Honor 10 uses the glass on its back. The frames are metallic and the edges slightly rounded for easy grip. In this case the camera is located in the upper left corner, but in a horizontal position. The camera sticks out much less than its rival.
On the front we have a screen with a notch and a lower frame that houses the fingerprint reader under the glass. That is, in Honor they have made better use of the front part at the cost of using the famous notch.
The full dimensions of the Honor 10 are 149.6 x 71.2 x 7.7 millimeters, with a weight of 153 grams. It is available in four colors: gray, black, blue and green. The last two are designed to be very bright and change color with the incidence of light.
screen
Let's talk now about the screen. At BQ they have opted for a smaller panel. However, as we have seen, the total size of the terminal is very similar.
The BQ Aquaris X2 Pro equips a 5.65-inch IPS LCD panel. It has an FHD + resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels, 18: 9 aspect ratio and up to 650 nits of brightness.
In Honor, as we have already mentioned in the design section, they have chosen to use the notched design. This allows a better use of the front part, thus reducing the frames.
The Honor 10 has a 5.84-inch panel with an FHD + resolution of 2,280 x 1,080 pixels. The screen offers a 19: 9 aspect ratio, achieving a screen-to-body ratio of 86%. That is, we have two very similar screens, whose most notable difference is found in the design of the upper part.
Cameras
When we enter a high price range, the camera is vital. We cannot ask these terminals to offer the same as the 1,000 euro mobiles, but they do need to be above the rest of the mid-range terminals. And the truth is that the two terminals that we are comparing comply with it.
The BQ Aquaris X2 Pro has a dual camera system on its rear. On the one hand we have a Samsung S5K2L8 sensor with a resolution of 12 megapixels. This one offers an aperture f / 1.8 and pixels of 1.29 μm.
It is accompanied by a 5-megapixel Samsung S5K5E8 sensor. The set is completed with a Dual PD phase detection autofocus system. The camera is capable of recording in 4K resolution at 30fps with video stabilization (Vidhance).
To get the best selfies we have an 8 megapixel Samsung S5K4H7 sensor with f / 2.0 aperture and 1.12 μm pixels. It has a front flash and is capable of recording video with 1080p resolution at 30fps.
In addition, the front camera is equipped with an artificial intelligence system called SoftNeuro. This detects and isolates the figures, creating an effect of depth.
The rear camera of the Honor 10 is made up of a dual 24 + 16 megapixel sensor. They both feature an f / 1.8 aperture. As for the front, we have a 24 megapixel sensor.
In addition to a magnificent technical foundation, the Honor 10 has a powerful artificial intelligence system. It is capable of recognizing more than 500 scenarios in real time, classified into 22 categories. In addition, it is capable of identifying multiple objects in a single image.
Processor and memory
Inside these two devices we have two very different proposals. The BQ Aquaris X2 Pro is equipped with a Snapdragon 660 processor manufactured by Qualcomm. It is one of the most powerful processor in the mid-range, but it is below the top models.
Accompanying the processor we have 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. A capacity that we can expand using a microSD card of up to 256 GB.
The Honor 10 borrows the Kirin 970 processor from its cousin the Huawei P20. It is Huawei's most powerful chip, which also includes a neural processing unit (NPU).
This processor is accompanied by 4 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of internal storage, depending on the model. Of course, we will have to choose well if we want to pay the extra for the higher capacity model, since the Honor 10 does not have a MicroSD card slot.
In the image above you can see the result of the AnTuTu test of both terminals. On the left we have the BQ Aquaris X2 Pro and on the right the Honor 10. It is clear that the terminal of the Chinese manufacturer is more powerful.
Autonomy and connectivity
I have been lucky enough to test both terminals and both have fulfilled in autonomy. However, the result has not been the same with both. It is true that with both I have reached the end of the day with battery, but the BQ has been superior in this regard.
The BQ Aquaris X2 Pro equips a 3,100 milliamp battery. In addition, it has a quick charge Quick Charge 4+. Thanks to this system we will have 100% of the device charged in an hour and a half. In just 30 minutes we will have 50% of the battery charged.
The Honor 10 requires a larger battery, since its processor is more demanding. It has a capacity of 3,400 milliamps. In addition, it is equipped with a fast charging system.
In the image above you have the battery performance test of both devices. Again the BQ mobile is on the left and the Honor 10 on the right. As we already anticipated, the Aquaris X2 Pro is superior to the Honor terminal in autonomy.
At the connectivity level there is not much to highlight. Both are well equipped, with a USB Type-C connector for charging the device.
Conclusions and price
This comparison has made it clear that we are facing two very good mid-high range mobiles. Which is better? Although we have already drawn small conclusions, it is worth reviewing them point by point.
As we always say, that we like one design more than another is something very personal. This time, both devices use glass and metal frames. So the biggest difference that we can find between them at the design level is in the front. While the Honor 10 has the famous notch, the BQ Aquaris X2 Pro goes for a more conventional design. With that said, my vote goes to the Honor 10.
We also have a tie for screen quality. They both have a very similar resolution. However, since we like big screens, I vote for the Honor 10.
We now come to the photographic section. Here there is no doubt. Despite the Aquaris's camera performance being more than correct, the Honor 10 is superior. This one has a photographic set that stays very close to the high-end terminals. So new vote for the Honor 10.
There's no question about brute force either. The Honor 10 has a high-end processor and this shows in the tests. And I say in the tests because in the usual use of the terminal we will not notice too much difference. Still, new point for the Chinese terminal.
In terms of autonomy, the BQ Aquaris X2 Pro is superior. The tests and "field" tests that we carry out in their day say so. So point to the Spanish terminal. And I must give an extra point to the BQ Aquaris X2 Pro for offering Android 8.0 in its One version, that is, pure Android.
We ended up talking about the price. The BQ Aquaris X2 Pro has an official price of 380 euros. It is a great terminal with a reasonable price. But its big problem is that the Honor 10 is priced at 400 euros (450 euros if we opt for the version with 128 GB of storage). So, which one do you choose?
