Clearly, both cameras were going to respond well when faced with simple environments. Both the Samsung Galaxy A3 and the Samsung Galaxy A5 from 2017 more than deliver when conditions are favorable.

Now, we immediately begin to find differences when we confront the two cameras with detailed photos. From these two facing photos (on the left the one taken with the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 and on the right with the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017) it is appreciated how the two lenses capture well the details of an object in the foreground. However, while the A5 is capable of capturing much of the information of the elements that are out of this close-up with sharp shapes and vivid colors, the camera of the little brother offers a worse performance with less defined elements and with similar effect to the mist.

Personally, I think the HDR mode on the two cameras is very successful. Although this mode tends to create unrealistic photos, this feeling is less pronounced on the cameras of the Galaxy A3 and A5 2017.

As for the selfie camera, the results are quite surprising. The truth is that we expected the camera of the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 to win by a landslide at this point, but the truth is that if I had to put my hand on fire I would opt for the lens of the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 for its treatment of the image and its breadth. Let's go in detail.

We can see that the camera of the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 produces a brighter result, although it also generates a certain unreal effect by softening the colors and skin tones. The camera on the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 is more faithful to reality at this point, but that is not always what a user looks for when they want to take a selfie.

There is little doubt here. The Samsung Galaxy A3 maintains a more natural glow, while the Samsung Galaxy A5 illuminates the scene in a very artificial way. Also, here you can see that the width of the A5 lens is lower, so less space is covered with the photo. This can cause us some other problem when taking group selfies, as we will see in the following example.

It is easily appreciated how the lens of the Samsung Galaxy A3 allows for instant group enhancements when taking larger photos.

Conclusions

In short, this comparison in a common use between the two cameras of Samsung Galaxy A 2017 leaves several conclusions. If we look only at the main camera, the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 takes the victory by quite a bit. It is true that in ideal conditions or with HDR mode the differences are greatly reduced. But as soon as we take photos in more demanding environments, the A5's lens will be more reliable.

Of course, this superiority is not at all clear in the case of the selfie camera. We expected more from the 16 megapixel lens of the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017. But the truth is that the camera of the Samsung Galaxy A3 performs better in group selfies or in low light conditions.
