- What is yet to come
Samsung has presented most of its mobile devices for this year. The company already has its new flagships on the market, the Galaxy S9 and S9 +, and has renewed the J and A ranges with mid-range and entry devices for users who love simplicity. He has little left to show in 2018. However, another of the great phones of the year is yet to be discovered. We refer to the Galaxy Note 9. Also, the C range still has a lot to say with the upcoming C10 and C10 Plus.
If you are not very up to date and you want to know which Samsung phones are already announced and some of those that are expected in a few months, do not stop reading. We review the current catalog of the company's devices for this year.
Samsung Galaxy S: flagship phones for the high-end
Samsung renewed its flagships for this year in February. The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy S9 + follow in the wake of their predecessors, with a continuous design, but increasingly evolved. Proof of this is a brighter camera, an even more infinite screen and a new purple color.
Samsung Galaxy S9
The first impression we get from looking closely at the S9 is that it is very similar to last year's model. It is true that the South Korean has not made too many changes on an aesthetic level. But if we look more closely, the phone continues to lengthen the screen. The panel is increasingly protagonist, with less presence of frames that bother the eye. This one is 5.8 inches in size and features SuperAMOLED technology. The resolution used is QuadHD, with an aspect ratio of 18.5: 9.
Inside the Galaxy S9 there is room for a 10nm Exynos 9810 processor with eight process cores and 6GB of RAM. Samsung's high-end can be found with several storage options: 64, 128 or 256 GB. All of them expandable by using microSD type cards. This generation has also improved the camera. We found a main 12 megapixel with autofocus and dual aperture.
One of its advantages is that it includes multiframe noise reduction technology, thanks to which up to 12 images can be captured simultaneously to eliminate any type of imperfection or noise. Likewise, a new function called AR Emojis has also been added , which detects up to 100 points of the user's face to imitate their expressions. For its part, the front camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels with autofocus and an aperture of 1.7.
The new Samsung Galaxy S9 also includes a 3,000 mAh battery with fast and wireless charging, Android 8.0 Oreo system, as well as a smart scanner and Bixby assistant. The device has an official price of 850 euros.
Samsung Galaxy S9 +
The vitaminized version of the current Samsung flagship features a 6.2-inch curved panel with QuadHD resolution, Super Amoled technology and an 18.5: 9 aspect ratio. We can say that it is very similar to its range brother, except for some small details. It is not only differentiated by the screen size, but also by the rear camera. The Samsung Galaxy S9 + comes with a dual 12 megapixel sensor. The second allows Live Focus (background blur or portrait mode) and has a 2x optical zoom. The result is quite good images, with surprising quality, brightness and sharpness, as we could see in our tests.
For the rest, the Galaxy S9 + also equips a larger capacity battery, it is 3,500 mAh (with fast and wireless charging). The phone can currently be found on the market at an official price of 950 euros. As we say, both the S9 and S9 + have landed this year in a new purple color, which gives it a fun and casual touch without losing elegance.
Samsung Galaxy A: mid-range phones for all tastes
The Samsung Galaxy A8, A8 +, A6 and A6 + have become part of the company's mid-range during 2018. We review them.
Samsung Galaxy A8 and A8 +
The Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and Samsung Galaxy A8 + (2018) are the evolution of the Galaxy A5 and A7 from last year. Without a doubt, the highlight is that they have a dual front camera for selfies with a resolution of 16 and 8 megapixels. This is one of its main claims, but it is not the only one. With its launch, the company brought the infinity screen to the mid-range. And it is that both arrive with an aspect ratio of 18: 9 and a design that is very reminiscent of the company's high-end: metal and glass on the back. As for extras, there is no lack of a fingerprint reader, Bixby or IP68 certification.
The Samsung Galaxy A8 is of the two that has a smaller panel. It uses Super AMOLED technology and has a size of 5.6. Its resolution is Full HD of 2,220 x 1,080 pixels. For its part, the A8 + goes up to 6 inches (AMOLED) with a slightly higher resolution, Full HD +. The two devices are powered by a 2.1 Ghz octa-core Exynos 7885 processor, accompanied by 4 GB of RAM. The A8 + can also be purchased with a 6GB of RAM.
The front camera is what surprises the most, as we have said, but the main one is not far behind either. It's simple, with a 16-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f / 1.7 and the ability to record video in Full HD. The two models also equip a 3,000 mAh battery with fast charging and are governed by Android 7.1.1 Nougat along with the Samsung Experience customization layer. As for prices, the Galaxy A8 can be purchased for 400 euros. The A8 + won't make it to Europe, the same as the Galaxy A7 didn't.
Samsung Galaxy A6 and A6 +
Just a few days ago, Samsung announced two new phones that we expected for the A range. We refer to the Galaxy A6 and A6 +. The first boasts a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED infinity screen with a resolution of 1,480 x 720 pixels. Both the main and secondary cameras have a resolution of 16 megapixels, both also with LED flash. In terms of processor, this model is powered by an Exynos 7870 with 3 or 4 GB of RAM. It also has a fingerprint reader, Bixby assistant, Android 8.1 Oreo or a 3,000 mAh battery with fast charge.
The Samsung Galaxy A6 +, meanwhile, includes a larger infinity screen. It is 6 inches (Super AMOLED) with a resolution of 2,220 x 1,080 pixels. The photographic section is also superior, with a dual 16 megapixel main sensor with LED flash. Also, its front camera for selfies has a resolution of nothing more and nothing less than 24 megapixels with f / 1.9 aperture and LED flash. Inside there is room for a different processor. It is a Snapdragon 450 accompanied by 3 or 4 GB of RAM. This model also has Android 8.1 Oreo, Bixby and a fingerprint reader and, where appropriate, a higher capacity battery. It is 3,500 mAh with fast charge.
Regarding their availability, Samsung has announced that they can be purchased throughout this month. The company has not given prices, but we imagine that they will start at 300 euros.
Samsung Galaxy J: cheap entry phones
The Galaxy J range of the South Korean has this year three new devices, ready to seduce the less demanding public. The Samsung Galaxy J8, J6 and J4 have been announced just a few hours ago and will begin to be available shortly.
Samsung Galaxy J8
The double camera and the infinite screen are not only a thing of high-end or mid-range mobiles. Samsung has shown that they can also be prominent features in its entry-level phones by including them in the new Galaxy J8. The new terminal comes with a 6-inch Super AMOLED panel with HD + resolution and an 18: 9 aspect ratio. The processor included is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450, which comes hand in hand with a 4 GB RAM.
This model also offers a 16-megapixel main and secondary camera, Android 8.0 Oreo, a 3,550 mAh battery or a storage capacity of 64 GB (expandable via microSD card). The new phone has been announced in India and will be available in this country from June 20 at an exchange rate of 240 euros. For now we do not know availability in other territories.
Samsung Galaxy J6
Very in line with the J8, but with slightly lower performance, we have the Samsung Galaxy J6. The terminal has a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED screen with HD + resolution (1,480 x 720) and an aspect ratio of 18.5: 9, so we are also facing a panoramic panel. In its guts there is room for an Exynos 7870 SoC with 3 or 4 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of space (expandable via microSD).
Regarding the photographic section, the new model includes a main sensor of 13 megapixels and a secondary one of 8, both with LED flash for low light moments. There is also a fingerprint reader, Android 8.0 Oreo + Samsung Experience or a 3,000 mAh battery. Like its range brother, the J6 will be available in India from June 20. We do not know anything about its availability in other places.
Samsung Galaxy J4
The last of the J family to be announced this year has been the Samsung Galaxy J4. The phone ranks as one of the most modest in the company's catalog with a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED screen with HD resolution. Its screen is not infinite and it has a 16: 9 aspect ratio. The J4's processor is a 1.4 GHz quad core along with a 2GB RAM. Its internal storage capacity is 16 GB (expandable via microSD).
At the photographic level, this terminal has a 13 megapixel rear sensor and a 5 megapixel front sensor. The good thing is that both come with LED flash. As for the rest of the features, the Galaxy J4 equips a 3,000 mAh battery and is governed by Android (the version is unknown at the moment). As announced by Samsung itself, the device will go on sale in Pakistan at an unknown price.
What is yet to come
It is true that almost all the fish is sold and we know a large part of the Samsung mobiles of this year 2018. However, we still have to meet some of the new members of the C range, the Galaxy C10 and C10 Plus and the jewel of the crown, which is none other than the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. It is very likely that the terminal will be released next August. From what we know, judging from the rumors, it would include a generous, infinite, 6.3-inch screen with a QHD + resolution of 2,960 x 1,440 pixels.
There is also talk of an Exynos 9 Octa 9810 processor, which would be accompanied by a 6 GB RAM. Also, for the photographic section, it is rumored that it would equip a triple sensor on the back, capable of capturing high-quality images. A high-capacity battery (around 4,000 mAh), Bixby, water resistance and a new S Pen with smarter functions would not be missing either.
