Following Lenovo's purchase of Motorola, we have witnessed devices not updating as quickly. In any case, currently, there are already a large part of Motorola Moto phones that have Android 7. This is the case of the Moto G4 and G4 Plus or the Moto Z. The company is putting the batteries to leave its wide catalog of models ready with the new platform over the next few months.
The Moto X will do the same shortly. This family will have the update from May. We can say that starting this month, the firm will have done its homework. Unlike many of its rivals, Motorola will have few phones left without Android 7. Of course, some will remain on the way, such as the Motorola Moto E3 and Moto E3 Power. Pay attention and check the calendar of updates to Android 7 of the Motorola Moto. Check if your equipment has already been updated or if it is close to receiving the new version of the system.
Moto G4 and G4 Plus
At the beginning of March the update to Android 7 arrived for the Motorola Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus. It took almost a year for the devices to receive the update. Both were announced in May 2016 with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The third of the family, the Moto G4 Play at the moment does not have Nougat, although it is scheduled to be updated in the coming months. Of course, we cannot give you a definitive date on your arrival.
The update of these terminals includes the different improvements of Android Nougat. Among them we can mention the multi-window function, which allows you to enjoy two applications at the same time from the same screen. It has also included a greater management of notifications, an improved design for the settings or improvements in the quick settings.
We imagine that if you are the owner of a Moto G4 or Moto G4 Plus you will have already received a pop-up message on the screen of your device to inform you of the update to Android 7. If not, you can update yourself from the settings section, about the device, software updates.
Moto X Family
In February we learned that the update to Android 7 for the Moto X family would arrive in May. Its delay has not been to the liking of many users, since they have yet to settle for Android 6.0. A problem, especially considering that there are lower-end models with the new version of the system. In addition, it should be noted that these terminals were announced in 2015, so they have already been on the market for some time.
In this way, the Moto X Style, Moto X Play, Moto X Pure and Moto X Force are expected to get Nougat before the summer, in just a month or so. Lenovo isn't the only company that has encountered software release issues. But in his case he's missing a lot. And more considering that Motorola has always been in a hurry to update its terminals to the latest versions of Android.
For now, the exact day of the arrival of Android 7 to the Moto X is unknown. We speak, as we say, of the month of May. This means that it would take a few weeks to start receiving the update. We will inform you promptly, but the normal thing is that you will receive a pop-up message on the computer screen advising of availability. As usual, the update can be done via FOTA (firmware over the air). This means that we will not need the use of cables to enjoy Nougat.
Moto Z Family
The Motorola Moto Z, Moto Z Force and Moto Z Play already enjoy the update to Android 7. The phones were announced last year, although they had to wait a few months to get Nougat. Specifically, not too long in the case of the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. These two teams received the update globally in November 2016. The Moto Z Play, on the other hand, had to have a little more patience. It was not until January of this year when you started to enjoy Android 7.
However, they have been the fastest terminals to be governed by the new platform. The Moto G4s have had to wait a lot longer. And the Moto X will have to hold out until May. The fixes and improvements that the update brings with it are obvious. But, in addition, the company reported compatibility with Daydream, Google's Virtual Reality system. It is also important to highlight the data saving system and important improvements in Doze. With this tool, users can save much more battery than usual.
Other Moto waiting to update
In addition to the Motorola Moto previously mentioned (some of them already with Android 7 inside), there are other teams that are waiting for the new version. This is the case of the Droid Maxx 2, which still would not have received the new system. The Moto E3 and Moto E3 Power will not have the same fate. Both will stick with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. In short, the Nougat update is coming in a relaxed way to the vast majority of Lenovo Moto devices. Therefore, we will still have to wait for the landing of Android 7.1.
The next 17, 18 and 19 May will be a new edition of the Google I / O developer conference. It is expected that the new version of the platform, Android 8. It will be released there in the coming months, there will still be some phones that have not managed to update to Nougat. Motorola, despite the fact that it is taking a bit longer than normal, will be one of the few that carries Android 7 in the vast majority of its terminals. And that's always something to be thankful for.
