How to use my mobile as a usb microphone for the pc in 2020

Video calls with friends, virtual conferences and online classes have become part of our routine. Sure you already have everything you need to make them perfect, but it usually happens that something stops working at the last minute, and we have to improvise.

If you have problems with that old microphone or the Windows microphone sounds like a can, you can resort to an alternative without going to the store: the microphone of your mobile. You can use the mobile as a USB microphone in a few steps, and we will show you below.

How to use the mobile microphone on the PC

To use the mobile as a USB microphone we will resort to WO Mic, an excellent free tool that allows this process to be carried out without so many complications. You will have to configure WO Mic on your Windows computer, install its app on your mobile and activate the Developer Options.

But don't stress, we'll explain it to you step by step. It is a simple process that will take you a few minutes, and then you can leave the WOC Mic with the basic settings installed on the equipment to use it in an emergency.

How to configure the PC to use the mobile microphone

The first step is to install the WO Mic client for Windows and an additional driver, which you will find at this link.

• Install the desktop client and the WO Mic driver taking into account your Windows version. It is not complicated at all, you will only go through a small configuration (language, download location, etc)

• Once installed (along with its driver) check if Windows has configured it correctly.

To do this, open the Windows “Device Manager” (select the Windows logo on the keyboard + X, or right-click on Start) and look for “Sound and video drivers and game devices”, as you can see in the image:

If WO Mic is properly installed it should appear in the list as “WO Mic Device”. So far the configuration in Windows comes, now let's move on to mobile.

How to configure the mobile to function as a USB microphone

On the mobile we will have to perform several steps, starting with installing the WO Mic application from Google Play. Once installed, we go to the mobile configuration.

You'll need to use a Developer Options feature, so you'll need to enable it first. Go to Mobile settings >> About phone and press several times on the “Build number” until the message “Developer options activated” appears.

• Now go to Additional Settings >> Developer Options
• And scroll to "USB debugging" to activate it, as you see in the image:

You will have to confirm this action and voila, we already have the mobile part configured.

How to use the mobile as micro USB in Windows

Now that the two computers are configured, we go directly to the process.

• Connect your mobile to the PC with a USB cable. You will see on the mobile the options to use the USB, so you just have to select "File transfer"
• Now make sure that Windows has taken your mobile in the correct way so that it works with WO MIC.

To do this, open the File Manager again and scroll down to "Universal bus device." If everything is correct then you will see that the mobile appears as "ADB Interface".

• Open the WO MIC application on your mobile, go to the “Transport” option and select USB.

Go back to the main page of the app and make sure to activate that little play button so that it seeks to connect via USB.

• Now open WO Mic in Windows, select Connection >> Connect to bring up the menu you see in the image below.
• Select USB as the transport type and hit "Connect". Ready, you will have your mobile working as a USB microphone.

If you get Error "Socket Network: error 100054" it is because you have not enabled the connection from the mobile application, as we mentioned before. In summary, on mobile make sure you have all these options enabled (image 1) and in Windows these settings (image 2):

In the application you will find different options to customize its dynamics, or put MUTE when you are connected. To use it as the default microphone in the applications you just have to open the app settings and select "Wo MIC".

And one last detail to keep in mind is that you will need additional configuration to work in some games or apps.
