Front of the Huawei P20 with lower fingerprint reader.
The Huawei P10 came with a very interesting feature, the fingerprint reader on the front. Not only is this location more successful, since it allows us to unlock the terminal on flat surfaces, such as a table, but it also allows us to add gestures in this reader and use it as a navigation bar. That's right, we can eliminate the navigation buttons that are on the screen by default and add different gestures in the fingerprint reader. In this case, we show you how to do it and configure it on the Huawei P20, P20 Pro and Mate 10.
In the Huawei P10 this feature was more visible, but the firm has decided to move the option to a more hidden place. In the case of Huawei Mate 10 and Huawei P20, we must go to "Settings", go down to "System" and look for the option that says "System navigation". Three options will appear, and we will have to click on the first, called "Navigation buttons that do not appear on the screen." We can also do a quick search. Write the words "Virtual navigation bar" and click on the first option. It will take you directly to the feature.
Example of virtual navigation with the reader on the Huawei Mate 10.
The difference is that in the Huawei Mate 10 we can only choose three navigation bar options. The fingerprint reader, on-screen buttons or a navigation dock. The Huawei P20 also allows us to add a button on the screen that allows us to make gestures. Although it is not the most comfortable option, it takes up less than the virtual navigation buttons.
Swipe, tap and hold
The controls are very simple. If we slide from right to left or vice versa we can display the recent applications panel. If we slide up we will display the Google Assistant. We can also wake up this assistant through the command "Ok Google". On the other hand, if you click lightly on this reader you will go back one step. In other words, it does the same function as the back button. Finally, if you press the button more permanently it will take you to Home. Although it seems complicated, you get used to it very quickly.
With the gestures in the fingerprint reader as a navigation bar we gain in use of the front. The buttons will no longer occupy a space on the screen, therefore, we will have more use on the front and the screen will show some more content. Finally, we must highlight that this feature is also found in Huawei phones that include a fingerprint reader on the front. In addition, it is also possible on honor mobiles with this front sensor. The location may change in the settings, but with this guide it will be easier to find it.
Combine reader gestures with the navigation dock
The navigation dock is another option to move around the system. It consists of a small circle that can be moved around the screen and that also allows us to move through the system. We can combine this method with the gestures on the fingerprint reader. Thus we will always have a button on the screen at hand in case we do not reach the reader. These include gestures similar to the button below. The only difference is that to open the recent notifications panel we will have to press and hold and then slide to the side.
