There will be lucky ones who continue their vacations during these days. Others, no less lucky, have enjoyed them for weeks before. In any case, it is more than likely that they have chosen a destination abroad, where at some point they will have run into the language barrier. Although we can manage with English in a more or less fortunate way, the possibility of having a translator that facilitates our understanding to locate streets, read the menus of bars and restaurants or simply start a conversation with locals is more than recommended. In this sense, and in its vocation to concentrate as many functions as possible in the same device, the smartphone is a very appropriate tool to carry out this task, and in the case of the Samsung Galaxy S4we find a powerful utility that satisfies this need. Its name is S Translator.
We cannot find a translator that is capable of working with voice operations and written texts. In principle, it contemplates up to nine languages (German, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, French, English, Italian, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese) to make the interpretations between languages, including the British and American variables of English. In all of them, we insist, using voice and text. In order to use it, we open the S Translator application, finding us with a simple but powerful interface that allows us to access various parameters. We see two differentiated areas to begin with. The top one will be the input text, and the bottom one will show us the translated text. In the lower margin we have a couple of buttons that allow us to enter the message to switch from one language to another using voice commands.
In the two separate areas to which we have referred, we find two panels that allow us to identify the input text, which is where we can choose between the nine languages mentioned. Next to these panels is a virtual button that switches the view of the text input to full screen. When we press to start writing and start the task, three new icons will appear on the right. The first one will be used to erase all the written text at once. The second, for its part, activates the locution of what we have written. Finally, the third party executes the translation.
Once we have the text in the output language, if we click on the screen with the translated message, the appearance of these three icons is repeated, with which we could read and listen to what was written in the target language, something very useful if not we know how to pronounce what we want to say so that the Samsung Galaxy S4 itself does the job for us.
In case the text to be translated is too long and we are too lazy to write it, we can always use the dictation buttons that we have already indicated in the lower margin of the interface. And as we already have in a previous post, we could also capture text by a picture with the camera of the Samsung Galaxy S4 to be scanned and then translate the message.
