If you spend a lot of time in front of the screen of your Android device, it is recommended that you look for ways to protect your eyesight. You can manually adjust the screen brightness from your phone's settings, and there are many applications that allow you to add protection filters for your vision and more precisely control the brightness of your phone.
Protect your eyesight with the F.lux application for Android
One of the most complete and popular options among smartphone users is F.lux, which was already available for Macintosh, Windows and Linux computers, and since 2011 it could also be used for iPhone and iPad devices since 2011.
The application allows you to configure different brightness options and filters for the screen according to the hours of the day, and then acts automatically according to the established settings. At the moment it is one of the most interesting options on the market, because it allows us to ignore the filters and settings for the screen during the day: the application works alone for us! And it is very interesting to know that we are doing everything possible to protect our eyesight and avoid problems such as eyestrain or eye irritation. If you spend many hours in front of the computer or your phone, you will appreciate the change.
F.lux is now available for Android, although with certain limitations: it can only be installed and used on mobile phones that have been rooted . That is, modifying the operating system comes in the device to get full control over it. Of course, there are certain nuances: on the app page itself on Google Play it is explained that many Samsung Galaxy devices with Android 5.0 or higher do not work, and although in most devices with rooted Android Lollipop or Marshmallow it will work without problem, they explain that "some with Android KitKat they will work, and others will not.
In any case, it is worth a try if you have a root Android phone. Install the application from Google Play and access its settings ( Preferences ) to decide which options you will use.
- In the Daytime Lighting section you can select the default filter that will be active during the day.
- Sunset allows you to set other settings for sunset.
- Bedtime is the setting for bedtime, when you most need to protect your eyes due to lack of natural light.
- You can also configure the time you wake up so that the application automatically schedules the filters according to your schedule and your lifestyle.
- For each section, you can select settings between the halogen, incandescent, candlelight options…
You have everything ready to protect your sight with an Android mobile thanks to F.lux. Remember that some applications that make special use of the screen ( streaming services such as Netflix and some games) deactivate filter applications such as F.lux by default, so you will have to check the settings after using them to reactivate them.
You can download the app on Google Play (only for rooted Android phones).
