Do you want to free up space in the storage of your Xiaomi mobile? While you can clean up and free up unnecessary files, there is a more efficient way to save storage space on your mobile.
Yes, use an SD card for content that steals more space, for example, photos and videos. If it is not something that you have taken into account from the beginning, do not worry, you can modify it at any time.
As you will see below, you only have to follow a few steps to transfer your photos to the SD card on your Xiaomi mobile.
How to move photos to SD card on Xiaomi
Once you activate the SD card to use it on your Xiaomi device, you just have to change some details in the storage settings so that your photos stop taking up internal space.
To get started, follow these:
- Go to Settings and click on "About phone"
- Choose "Storage" and scroll to "Storage Settings"
In this section, you can choose where to save the content generated from the Camera, Themes and Gallery. If you've never touched these options, then they will all be set to "Internal storage." So you just have to display the options and choose "External storage", as you see in the images:
From this new setting, all new photos will be automatically stored on the SD card. You can easily check it if you open a photo and search for "Details". You will see that under Local Path there is no longer Internal Storage, but it says SD Card.
And in the case that you apply this same configuration to the Gallery, you will notice that all the albums you create will be stored on the SD Card. The only exception to this configuration are the screenshots, which will remain in the internal storage of the mobile.
One detail to keep in mind is that this configuration will only apply to new content, but it will not affect photos already saved or albums that you have already created before. This process will have to be done manually, as we explain below.
How to move old photos to SD card
Performing this process is simple, and it will only take a few seconds. You just have to locate the folder that saves all the photos in the internal storage to transfer it to the SD Card.
So open the File Manager and follow these steps:
- Choose "Shared Internal Storage" to see all your folders
- Select "DCIM" and open the "Camera" folder. There you will find all the photos stored before the configuration change
- Select all the items in the folders (videos and photos) and look in the lower menu for "Move"
Since our intention is to move all the photos to their new storage place, choose:
- Move to SD Card >> DCIM >> Camera
In this way, you will already have all your photos stored in one place, the SD card. On the other hand , if you moved the photos from their original location and organized them into Gallery albums, don't worry, you can easily make the change.
Repeat the first step of the previous process from the File Manager, and then follow these steps:
- Select the folder “MIUI” >> Gallery >> Cloud >> Owner >> and move it to the SD Card
Although you can move the albums to any folder on the SD card, the ideal would be to respect the same path (that is: SD Card >> MIUI >> Gallery >> Cloud >> Owner) since future albums that you create will be saved there from Gallery.
