Starting today, November 15, if you are a user of a Samsung Galaxy S9 or Samsung Galaxy S9 +, you can access the beta of Android 9 Pie, the latest version of Google's mobile platform. This update comes from the hand of the new user interface of the Samsung One UI company, which offers a complete redesign, basically focused on making it easier to use when placing the controls in the lower half of the screen.
The launch of the open beta for the S9 and S9 + has started today in Germany, although it will be extended to the rest of European countries over the next few weeks. It is expected that in Spain it will arrive around the month of December. The final version of Android 9 is expected to make its appearance next January, so there is not too much time left for it. In any case, if you can't wait and plan to update as soon as you can access the beta, then we will explain all the steps you have to take to install it on your device. Of course, keep in mind that it is a test version, so you could find bugs and errors or a somewhat more unstable system.
How to download Android 9 Pie beta on the Galaxy S9
- The first thing you have to do is download and install the Samsung Members application through the Google Play Store or Galaxy Apps.
- Log in with your Samsung account (if you don't have one, you need to do so).
- Go to the section Notices (Notices) or Notifications (Notifications). Then select One UI Beta Program Registration and submit the app.
- When you are accepted into the program, go to Settings> Software update> Manual download.
- Now you just have to wait for your device to update.
Main features of Android 9 for the Galaxy S9
Users who update their Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9 + to Android 9 will have a series of improvements and new functionalities. At the interface level, one of the most obvious changes is the appearance of a new dark theme, which will change the background of the different components of the platform interface to black (others such as the notification cards to dark gray). The goal is to get more out of the OLED screen of phones. Also, the quick settings panel has been completely redesigned. From this version on, it will occupy the entire terminal panel at the time it is deployed.
In addition, you can access a new menu of movements, from which it will be possible to activate the gesture control. In this section we can use the new “Lift to Wake” gesture, which activates the device screen when it is lifted from a surface, for example, on a table. Many of the system apps will also undergo quite a few changes once the phones are updated to Pie. The Camera, Gallery or Phone will adopt the dark theme and a new card format with rounded corners.
The new user interface Samsung One UI will also bring new improvements along with Android 9 Pie. The South Korean said at the time that it has created One UI in close collaboration with Google and the Android developer community with the aim of minimizing clutter and streamlining the user experience. As Samsung's high-end phones have large screens, the software is also optimized for better one-handed use. You'll find things like menus and notifications at the bottom of the screen to work faster.
